@j7512 And I'm not sure of your programming experience, but starting out, certainly don't limit yourself to just popular languages like Java or something, try a bunch of things and see what works for you. Some people make great things in Game Maker or Construct, others do stuff in C++, Lua, or Python, and it really varies. If you're looking for an interesting community about game-making, check out TIGSource forums, there's a lot of helpful people in the Technical board and elsewhere on there.
@j7512: Sorry for not seeing this earlier! Basically, I would recommend when starting out, use some existing tools, it'll make your life way better. I mean, tools can get in your way, but until you do, you might as well leverage other peoples' work. Since making games is way more enjoyable than making engines. LWJGL is pretty low level, at least when I last used it, it was basically a way to use OpenGL/FMOD (C libraries) inside Java. But there's gotta be something a little nicer, maybe Slick?
Amazing stuff! Subscribed. Would you recommend a beginner to learn to make their own game engine first or just use an existing one like LWJGL or jMonkey?
