I think Brandon Teena was extremely self-destructive. He knew he would be at risk in a place like Falls City, Nebraska. A Midwestern town like that would've been homophobic, especially in the early 1990's. I think he moved there because he wanted to be around "macho" types and prove his "manhood."
He would've been better off in New York City or San Francisco.
