  • just gettin' started-

  • I wish i could have seen Hillel live

  • This is so fucking good.

  • Hillel Slovak seems pretty unknown to lots of people... he's kinda like a hidden treasure

  • Is that Jack of Cliff on drums?

  • Where you here?

  • nothing against john F, but... this is soo fuckin awesome!!!

  • 1:14-1:20 Chicks jockin Anthony, then they get rolled on LOL

  • Hillel for the win

  • Comment removed

  • From 3:00 to 3:06 = epic drunk

  • keidis is a flipping living legend!

  • little james dean on bass , yes flea .!

  • what did flea say in the end?

  • @garagerockiz "i dont know how many racist pigs there are out there tonight. but if there are listen to this you little pigs"

  • I wonder what HIllel would have done now-a-days. like how many new ways he would have found to melt our faces right off...R.I.P. Hillel. You are missed but will NEVER be forgotten!

  • damn, i was barely 1 when this concert took place...who would have known that i would have fallen in love with this band...I (ASTERISK) RHCP!!!

  • @fleafan05 uhm, i wasnt even BORN YET. Not for 11 years later.

  • what bass?????!!?

  • @Lazarus1803 MusicMan Cutlass I, it is basically a stingray with a Modulus licensed graphite neck.

  • @noodle654 thank you! =)

  • Anthony Kiedis is the word master

  • I was at this show. It wasn't in Dallas. It was at the Ritz in Austin on 6th Street. When we were all yelling for them to come back out, they came out with socks on their d**ks. Never forget it.

  • this is some rare shit.truly a lost diamond.R.I.P. slovak.

  • yes i agree it seems like he is a lost jewel cause there isnt lotsa people that know who he was

  • @krozmi my best advice...don't watch the 1994 concert from the Reading Festival...Navarro is the guitarist and all the songs he tries to cover...not as beautiful. This one included. =[

  • i'm pretty sure he's got some native american and lithuanian in him.

  • thats anthony

  • There is another video from this concert they do American Ghost Dance my fav song off freaky styley. but youtube doesnt have it.. I can only find it on some shi**y russian website that takes FOREVER to load.,.tell me someone knows a better place to find it

  • Dude, was that Joey Buttafuoco at 1:21?

  • Nov 23 is my birthday haha. Go back to 1986 dallas texas for a birthday present? yeah...

    Wat nationality is Anthony?

  • Anthony's nationality? Mostly caucasian (unspecified) but with some Lithuanian, and even some Mohican blood.

  • Why isnt there camera time for flea

  • None of their albums are garbage. Stadium Arcadium is genius.

  • OK- I'm confused... Was this shot at The Ritz Theatre on 6th Street in Austin, TX or in Dallas?

I was at The Ritz show in Nov.'86, and psyched to find this; but the sound quality seems WAY too good for The Ritz ATX and I don't recognize any faces in the crowd...

  • LOL 1:17 that guys fuckin awesome...look at him flip onto the stage

  • i like their older shit better too, but trust me if they had been playing their newer stuff since the beginning they would still be considered a good band, their newer stuff (like SA) is comparable to good rock bands somewhat like zeppelin and the beatles

  • WHAT A TUNE WHAT A VIDEO.1ST CLASS.

  • Take me to tour Backwoods now!

  • They are so stoned here but still a great version of this song, one of the very first times they played it.

  • damn, the Red Hot were so great...

..too bad they've lost their authenticity.

  • posta

  • what?

  • Stadium is garbage

  • Anthony's choice of clothing never stops amazing me...

  • No matter what it is anthony's hair is always awesome.

  • Woah! I wish I was there

  • wow they just ignore it.. looks like they sort of tense up when that happens

  • thats cause slam dancers and crowd surfers were like that in the day. Bands didnt have 10ft fences and 100 guards with a 5 metre gap in between them and the stage bacjk then. Not to mention this was prior to Mothers milk days when they became HUGE.

  • Punk guy is the best XD

  • lol it happens

  • 1:05 Punker on the stage XD

  • You know how was a really big fan of the band, and went to see them all the time? Has anyone ever spotted him on one of the old vids? That'd be awesoem :D

  • if you're talking about Johnny Fru Fru i didnt see him yet but i think it would be great to see that..

btw is your name based on the band reel big fish?

  • Yeah I forgot to write his name for some reason.

    And yes loosley ^^

  • dude, i didn't really need an answer, i just thought it was funny

  • haha, what's with the random people from the audience jumping onto the stage then throwing themselves back?

  • Those was times! Not now - mr.perfectly stadium sux arcadium

  • couldnt agree anymore

  • dude

    john is fucking great

cant disagree that hillel is great too.. but dont disrespect johns music

  • One word could describe SA:

    OVER-PRODUCED

It does have some pretty great songs, though.

  • Wow I have never seen a Hilel video before, awesome.

  • TURN THIS SHIT UP! hell yea man

  • looks like a fun gig

  • Anthony <3 lol this is really cool and its Hillel not John hahah

  • Timeless, isn't it?

  • this was a show in Austin that i went to in 86. i'm perplexed by the people who don't pay attention to what they are viewing on youtube. Frusciante was in the O.C. in his bedroom and getting high at this point

  • does anyone notice that this song already completed before UMPP was out in september 1987

  • yeah man...they wrote nevermind before they even got singed....and they released it on 2nd album....

  • backwoods has such a sick bass line :)

  • Son écriture aborde un angle nouveau et il souffle sur l'album la bouffé d'air frais dont il a besion.

  • why would john be there, he lived in l.a.

  • he lived in ny

  • he was born in ny and then moved to la

  • if your talking bout kiedis he was born in grand rapids michigan and then moved to la with his dad

  • i was talking about john frusciante being born in ny

  • flea was born in australia then lived in my town as a little kid and then moved to LA :)

  • im really starting to appreciate hillel's playing alot , wonder how they would of sounded without frusciante

  • holy shit mikbulzary i was thinking the same thing and I bet JOhn Frusciante was at that show!!!!

  • We miss you Slim!

  • i wonder if john frusciante was in that crowd...

  • i was just thinking that.

  • I'm getting sick of people saying shit like this. "they lost all their dark energy when john came back"...uhh, and jungle man and yertle the turtle have such dark energy, riiight. When they were happy, hopped up on drugs their music reflected that (freaky styley, mothers milk) when they were depressed, lonely and down on them selves, it reflected THAT emotion too (One Hot Minute), and now they are at peace with life and their music reflects that.

  • I couldn't agreee more

  • no other band has maintained such a consistently creative output after 20+ years

  • If Hillel Slovak was alive he'd be so damn famous and have the ultimate guitarist status. RIP Hillel.

  • back in the day when hair metal, glam ruled the scene...

  • if someone from the audience is still alive, reply me!!

(i think nobody is still alive from there.lol)

  • I'M ALIVE! =)

  • what the fuck. haha

  • This is the shit!!

  • R.I.P. hillel........anthony you are amazing....wooh flea cracks me up

  • goodd that bass is sooooo good.

    flea is the man :)

  • RIP Hillel!!!

  • I was there..

  • Badass song.I love Hillel's guitar playing and Jack's drumming.

  • no its not fuck you

its funk and punk P-Funk.......its original screw you

  • Take me to your backwoods now!

Gotta love those lyrics. RHCP, the sole reason my existence has a meaning <3

That's a small stage, there's no room for Anthony to be jumping around like a fucked up lunatic xD

  • does anyone think hilllel bares a slight resemblence to borat?

  • lol

  • RED hot CHILI peppers TO ETERNITY!!!FUCKING GREAT BAN....EVER!!

  • thats video brings me back, Hillel is so missed!

  • This is fucking awesome.

  • anthony singin' punk rock vocals is great, although, actually he could sing better, and their funk punk mix is ever welldone,i love it.

  • BEST BAND EVER RHCP!

  • the drummer jack irons, is my best friends dad

  • sure he is

  • Is he really?

  • I wish they were as crazy as this now-I miss the old chilis!!

  • i totally agree, the past few albums are just a different sound, I respect those albums but Iam a true diehard fan since the 80's and it hard to get into the newer stuff.

  • true

  • Thats RED HOT FUCKING CHILI PEPPERS

  • those are some sexy motherfuckers.

  • OMG I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HAVE BEEN THERE.

    Great. But i wasn't born yet^^

  • Wow Kiedis could NOT sing back then haha. But it still rocks!

  • He wasn't born with a singing voice but he has improved A LOT since back then.

  • when i saw the freaky styley show his voice quality did'nt deter me from seeing every tour up to blood sugar.i sorta lost interest in where they went after that, but i still love to rock out with my...you know the rest.

  • haha yeh dam right bruva :P

  • he is a good singer today. But for me his voice is too clear now.

    However u can't say he can't sing.

  • why do people do this?

  • Enjoyed this video...this song is on the first Peppers cassette (yes, no CDs back then) I ever heard! Brings back good memories:o) Thanks for sharing it.

  • ha the intro/verse guitar reminds me of buckethead's "jordan"

  • what sounds nothing like that. haha but it has the jumpy thing buckethead uese but we all know that hillel is wayyy better thsan that buckethead

  • ey ey bbguyv396 sucK my pepper !!

  • lol at least they didnt care about the crazy fan running around! some bands woulda freaked and stopped the whole fucking show!

  • indeed^^

  • agree, but anyway most official live videos realeased by rhcp are dubbed in studio..for example slane castle where anthony's vocals were touched by computer

  • Boncheck i dont believe you

  • u dont have to..just check this..i was at rhcp gig in chorzow this year and few weeks later i saw that same show in tv so i have comparison and i tell you that anthonys vocal lines were cleared or kiedis has been cloned and second guy can sing better..wtf..its cheating

  • I still dont believe you.

  • ok then then i can suck myself..still don't believe me?

  • No idea about that, but On The Map had songs compiled from half a tour's worth of footage. The chillis lost all of their dark energy when John returned - I can't stand their last 3 albums. Still better then most indie rock I suppose :-S

  • have another listen to the chilli s play Venice Queen live at slane Castle then you'll know why they never left the map , take care .

  • haha, that random fucking jock bumping into hillel, anthony should have tripped him

  • lol 87 ur right but still other comment stands

  • lol first of all it was 88 and bands are just always writin songs just becoz they released it on a later date doesn mean they didnt wright it earlier

  • this has to be my favorite song to play on guitar! ;D i LOVE hillel! he is my idol!! *kisses*

  • how is it live in 86 if its on an album from 87

  • dude your an idiot. bands make up songs before they put it on albums...

  • ur an idiot

  • ya i prefer old chilis too! haha

  • i was born 4 years later on that very day :) great stuff

  • *Sigh* Dave completely ruins a great song from the heavy side of Hillel Slovak. Amazing muh better John Frusciante is. No disrespect to Navarro, but he just saint a chili pepper

  • awesome song. what does flea say at the end?

  • AWESOME... haha i love how he says 'turn that sh*t up!' These guys are legends

  • yeah i prefer old chilis.

  • Oh man, this is a great performance. Thanks for posting! And this was the day I was born! haha

  • i love this type of music. i wish i was alive in those times. the chili peppers have changed alot. and anthony is pretty good at rapping i must say

  • i would have absolutely loved to see them during this period

theyre obviously still not the same band, but if they had kept playing the same kind of music, they probably wouldnt be around anymore

  • Anthony has to be 23 years old here, my got what a god, read scar tissue, bad time on druggs.

Great music, but I like John very much too, also solo work, but Hillel is really the best.

I am more into soul to squeeze, give it away and show me your soul kind of music, but I have all the records and like the old stuff very much too. Everything they did is superb!!!

  • Tony flow's rapping is superb! This line up is ultimate fantasy! Wish I could have seen these 4 play together. i have seen the current chilis 5 times but prefer the old school! Slap bass! :D

  • Chilli Peppers RIP - This band died along time ago.

  • Agreed. It's like Aerosmith all over again.

  • Ha I saw myself in the crowd. This was my favorite version of the band

  • Anybody now if this is from the Ritz in Raleigh, NC?

  • hey moron, the year is 1986... not only does the description say dallas texas, but rchp probably didnt go to NC until they were BIG.

  • this fucking rules, john is an amazing guitarist but without hillel he wouldnt even be playing guitar, hillel is the master

  • amazing stuff, man.

  • I don't expect them to write lyrics about incessant partying and begging to be shagged but for the most part it gets annoying when they put out three consecutive albums of music that range from mid tempo to pop balladry

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

  • This has got to be my favorite classic song. But man I'm really gettin tired of old school fans saying that they suck now. They're all like 45 now, alot more talented, don't do drugs, and playing innovative music. Would you guys seriously expect them to still write songs about partying and gettin laid. I love their old stuff, but all they've done is evolved their music style

  • aaa i lovew the fucking original band bro

  • I loved it when hillel is in the band (r.i.p hillel) But thier also great today, thier the best band everrrrrrrrr!

  • They're still wicked, just that they don't have the wicked guitar or bass solos anymore. Chad is better than Jack Irons. Its hard to decide between Hillel and John. Their mother's Milk stuff was the best probs, but they don't realli do any of that anymore. They're still good, I like some of their more melodic stuff too.

  • I liked them then and like 'em now. Just because they actually learned how to write songs is no reason to dis them. Long live Hillel, and Jack Irons is great too!

  • mark syvertson is frekey stylie

  • this is great seeing hillel and all together the origional ones great stuff

  • Cool shit

  • member this? when you could get on the stage, jump and not get fucked with by security??
