That thing must have cost a fortune. I obviously am not very bright for I had no Idea a jet engine could be made that small. Does it work on the same principle as a jet engine? Does it have fans to compress the air before it gathers enough speed to naturally compress it? Absolutly amaizing to me. My curiosity is getting the best of me and I will have to go on ask.com. Rule #1 in an engine failure situation: lower the nose and maintain airspeed. You can't fly if you are stalled. He maintained a level stall all the way down. Lucky it was a light plane for the surface area.

Spot on.. exactly what I was going to say.

To add to that, he continued to retract the gear and climb. He should have left the gear down. put the nose down while he had airspeed and he could have prob made it back to the field. Speculative, but, at the point it stalled all the way to the ground, looks like a considerable distance. He had altitude, use it.

Instead it looks like he panicked and reacted exactly how an untrained pilot would during a power-loss, which is to pull up more and more as a stall develops, and that's exactly what happened all the way into the ground.

@TheChad40 That depends. Many delta-type aircraft are specifically designed to land in a "high alpha" attitude. Besides, the retracts on this model are scale-like and quite slow. Had he turned back, the pilot risked landing on a hard surface with no gear. Instead he chose to belly land in a grassy area, without having to wait for the retracts.

@3nasacova Yes, the Mig 25 and 31 were of great concern not only to the Americans, but ALL the NATO nations as well. But after the West got it's hands on one (courtesy of Viktor Belenko) it was found that analysts overestimated the capabilities of the Mig 25. The 31 was an improvement, but these two aircraft were basically good at only one thing. Downing bombers. But that is what they were designed for in the first place. Yes they could do Mach 3, but only for very short periods.
