The thing that had always bugged me during the fight with Raditz: Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu were able to sense power levels at that time.

Raditz's power level was the highest on earth at that point in time.

Yet, they were surprised when they heard Goku died during the fight with Raditz, when they were summoned by Kami to train at his place.

Why did they never sensed it? Or why didn't Roshi/Krillin/Bulma contacted them to help Goku and Piccolo? They would have annihilated Raditz together.

And the reason they were surprised that Goku died fighting Raditz, was because Goku had long been the great hero that always overcame the bad guys everyone feared - including Piccolo.

Gohan had been kidnapped and Goku and Piccolo were pressed for time to confront Raditz, so it was a bit late when Yamcha and co. arrived on the scene.

I dont believe Tien is that much stronger than Yamcha during the saiyan saga. Granted he is stronger but not that much stronger. A more interesting fight woulda Been Buu Yamcha and Tien Vs. Speaking of which, Goku's was only 300 something at this time, due to Bardock(and thus Raditz) being part of the lower-class sect of Saiyans.

Goku's ONLY as strong as he is, because of the various trainings he has received from different mentors(if you're not counting SSJ, etc.); which was the whole point of the show, I think.

Goku was around 300 because of dealing with people of that level. If Vegeta's 16,000 existed from a Saiyan before that time, then that level was attainable by the right process. The logic used to make Radditz the crap opening villain is fail.

Lower-class saiyans are still able to reach such power levels, but aren't born with it.

Notice how Trunks was stronger than Goten during the Buu saga.

Raditz was a Saiyan going through intense interplanetary battle for a LIFETIME and was overtaken by some Humans training for a year. I never said Raditz was born with it, I am saying that some Humans overtook him in a 30th of the years. Make that make sense. I am pretty sure that even low level Saiyan blood is WAY better than human blood. Do you honestly believe a 34 year old Saiyan being weaker than Krillin after 1 year of training makes sense?

True, but Saiyans usually picked on much weaker races when they conquered planets. They didn't really need to train, because they were already one of the strongest forces allied with THE strongest force at the time, Frieza.

Obviously, it's a bit of a stretch between the 1 year and 30+. However, Kami did train the Z Warriors to face off against the Saiyans, specifically.

Saiyans picking on weaker races was enough to get Bardock to 10,000.

He went for the missions "even the elites wouldn't dare" but either Raditz was on elite level missions with Vegeta, or I have no reason to believe even Vegeta would have gained 6,000 (he had just passed 10,000 during Bardock - The Father of Goku) over that time. It is in the blood to an extent, then there is the reality of Ze
