  • Mossy 590 way better, not to knock stevens but what do you if a sheel jams with that design? there is no port that allows you to extract the shell manually. Ithaca designed this gun originally minus the dual action bars but for a shtf gun I'm not convinced about its reliability

  • I'll stick with my Mossy 930 SPX for a semi, and my Norinco Hawk 982 (or Rem 870 police or Mossy 590a1 for a pump). Or any FN. I like Savage a lot, but they definitely dropped the ball on this one. That's to make no mention of the alleged clanking criticism, which could give away your position.

  • Why, why, WHY not make the tube mag longer to hold 6 instead of 5, on a home defense gun, not to mention why not a little rail in front of the rear sight, to throw up an OEG/reflex/ESD?

  • I have a question....i have a Stevens 350. Whenever I dont have an shell in the chamber the dual action bars love to make a clanking sound......so when flip the gun over..."Clank".....when i have it on my shoulder walking around...."Clank"....."CLANK"!! Its driving me insane!!!!!! I love the gun I just cant stand the sound. Is there anyway to fix this? I tried tightening the screws but that didn't help. If ANYONE could help me it would be much appreciated!!!

  • @ATLSmackdown

I can understand your frustration. The reason why you get that clank is because when the action locks forward even tho the bolt lock shut to the barrel for some reason the carrier which the action bars hold to has a small amount of play. So the bars and pump are free to move back and forth just enough to make the sound.

I believe this is what you are talking about and I bet you could take it up with customer service. They may have a fix for this problem.

  • @ATLSmackdown So you have the same problem too?

  • @ATLSmackdown

I think all of this shotguns have this problem which I believe the company will say its a normal operation of the slide. I have not carry it like you do and that is the main reason why I don't have a problem with it but I can see how it might work against you if its something that annoys you personally.

It is a good and cheap shotgun but those are some of the negative you get when you purchase value over quality. I would like to know if it makes the price not worth it to you.

  • Can it fire slugs?

  • @iamstarstuff001

    It sure can.

  • Ok, broke down and bought this beast. Question... Will Ithica stocks fit this gun?????

  • @alajeff

Absolutely. But those are very hard to find and expensive when compare to the more common brands IE 870 or 500

  • @zaldivarbigboy Choate has Ithica stocks that are cheaper than the 930 pg stock. Even cheaper if you just get the pistol grip no stock. Guess they would work, as well. Also, I had some trouble with the big receiver screws and stripped the heads. How's Savage's customer service? Any experience? Otherwise, love the gun. Surprised they had it at...,ahem, Dicks...

  • @alajeff

Give me the link on a PM to the Choate site. If you striped the head of the big bolt they probably will charge you for a new one but I don't know. I never dealt with them but I've heard good things.

I got it from grabagun not, ahem, Dicks.... I shopped around and grabagun has the best price. I hope you finally got that take down squared away, if you didn't I have a full dis-assembly video on it. Thanks

  • @zaldivarbigboy Ok, it's not totally destroyed and I did check out the break down and reassemble. Good vids, as always. I'll pm you the stuff I've found, so far..

  • @zaldivarbigboy I just checked mine and it too has the movement you refer to when turned from the muzzle. It appears to be inherent with the design due to the screw in barrel. It didn't affect my accuracy this afternoon.

  • @sturmgewehr70

I figured as much. I believe that I can probably help the play by positioning the keeper on the magazine tube all the way against the left side of the barrel. That should keep it from rotating in that direction.

As you mentioned it should not affect accuracy since the play is a rotation play and not a side to side or up and down play. Plus with ghost ring sights it shouldn't be a problem I just wanted to make sure it wasen't just my gun.

  • Picked up one at Academy this afternoon for $199.99! Brought it home and shot the hell out of it. It ran flawlessly!

  • @sturmgewehr70

I need a huge favor from you. Can you tell me if your barrel has a little rotation play side to side. I put mine together and it has a small amount of play when I gab the receiver with one hand and try turn the barrel clockwise by the front of the muzzle it shift just a tiny bit on the front no visual rotation near the receiver but was wondering if that would affect my front sight point of aim if I zero and it shifts. Just let me know what you find.

  • Looks like a copy of the Ithaca with two rods. Let me know. Thanks, good luck, be safe.

  • Can u make a video on how to field strip this gun there arent any on youtube.

  • @DTOWNVATO214

I will do one in a week or so in the mean time this might be helpful.

Just add the youtube home page link in front:

  • @DTOWNVATO214

I'm making the disassemble video right now. It will be up in about 3 hours so keep an eye out for it.

  • Did I hear you right? Made in CHINA? I thought Savage was made in USA? This makes me sad.

  • @dudespin

You heard me right. This shotgun is made in chine and sold here as a Stevens 350 Pump by Savage. It does however come with the savage warranty. I don't like the fact that its made in china but I bought it knowing so cause it was a really good deal for the Ithaca M37 copy.

When i first saw it advertised on Combat Handguns I thought the price was too good to be a home brew shotgun from savage made here at home. But they are supposed to be made to savage quality standards.

  • @zaldivarbigboy There is another shotgun supposedly made in China: The HR Pardner. It looks very similar to the Stevens. I wonder if its the same thing but licensed to a different manufacturer?

  • @dudespin

I'm pretty sure its made by the same Chinese company, the H&R Pardner Defense is model after the 870 so its easier to customize.

  • @zaldivarbigboy The H&R Pardner Defense IS MADE BY Marlin Firearms

  • @zaldivarbigboy The Gun Parts Are Made In China Sent to US AND MADE IN US is A CHINA COPY CUZ Gun Parts Stevens MAKE ALL THERE GUNS AT Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, United States

  • @dudespin

    It's a "Stevens", as in Savage-Stevens, Inc.

Stevens is the name over the imported stuff from China and Turkey.

I have NO problem with Chinese or Turk small arms.

Norinco is still the largest manufacturing company in the world, a proprietary of the Chinese army and builds a decent rifle and pistol, like an SKS and a 1911 GI spec. .45 banned by Dickmaster Clinton. Stevens 350 is built, like a tank, by Sun City Machinery...relationship to Norinco unknown by me.

    < $250? YES!

  • @Gmissile I have a problem with it because MADE IN CHINA is everywhere and it is crippling American industries.

  • @dudespin

It IS a problem;but,it's NOT the fault of the Chinese.

The vampire pirates that run the USA and their governmental hired hands are TOTALLY responsible for the decline of American manufacturing and the unrelenting destruction and disenfranchisement of a formerly politically and economically empowered Middle Class.

If and when "What goes around, comes around." finally manifests; I'll see the rotten bastards wasted by low priced Third World hardware in angry Citizen's hands.

  • Cool intro. Looking forward to the range report.

What online retailers do you prefer, which ones have the best deals? I've had good luck finding deals at CDNN

  • @jamaicanjjason

The intro is kind of cool. I have bough a few items from CDNN cause they have really great prices on some of the items they sell. Also I use google shopping cause they give me a list of all the retailers that have the item from low to high and so its easy to find one that has the item in stock for the price you want to pay.

Another site I frequent is atlacticafirearms and centerfiresystems as well as JGsales. These places have great deals all the time.

  • Your new intro is sick! Top notch stuff brother, looks like a decent shotgun. I've been looking at these on Davidson's but wasn't sure if they were any good. I'll be looking forward to your full review. Merry Christmas and God bless!

  • @fumasterchu12

I took the plunge and if you give me a few days I'll give you my honest review. Some of this imports are hit or miss but for the most part the Ithaca action is hard to mess up. Norinco has imported a desing that most said was very comparable with the real deal and this model from Savage has been out for a while now and the reviews are favorable. I'll keep you posted.

  • @zaldivarbigboy Thanks bro, I look forward to the review.

  • Great video. Love budget firearm videos. The only thing that would bother me with this Savage is the weight. The Pardoner is an 870 Remington (basically) but the weight difference is noticeable between the two, with the 870 having a lighter feel. The Savage looks like it would be a perfect gun for lefties, tho. The new intro is sick, btw.

  • @alajeff

You know your right about the weight. It comes in at 8 pounds, That is 1/2 a mound heavier than the 930 SPX and almost a whole pound heavier than the real Ithaca M37. So yeah the weigh is there.

The pardoner is a great choice and grabagun the place were I bough the Savage has them in 3 different configurations in prices ranging from 190-200 but no ghost ring sight set up which can cost 100 bucks to do aftermarket. So the Stevens was the best value and it has the savage warranty too.

  • looks like the 590 mossberg for 250 sweet but you know it would cost more in Orlando they bump up the prices here.

  • @mercado391

Man I purchase 60% of my guns online cause that is were the deals are. I don't mind supporting my local range and gun shops by buying ammo and some accessories but I can't pay 100 or more for a gun just cause it helps my local gun shop.

If you go that route you should be able to pick it up for about the same. I know there has to be an FFL there that charges under 30 bucks for transfers.

  • It's good to see someone on YouTube covering cost effective firearms, sometimes I think the firearms community forgets that a large portion of the community can't afford $700+ firearms, SBRs, suppressors, and such. Thumbs up to you also on your new intro, keep up the good work.

  • @MThrow

I'm all for expensive guns but to tell you the truth times are tough and I like having quantity, I don't think any one man should have one gun I think he should have many guns, as many as he can afford and since the times are tough now I don't mind buying a practical gun at a great value.

I love my Ithaca and that was the driving force behind this buy, a gun that functions the same is new with a warranty and is under 250 is hard to pass. And if its no good I'll sell it, win win for me.

  • Can't wait for your range update and of course, the perpetual cerakote you do on your firearms!

  • @8slowflow8

I'm kind of exited about how its going to turn out after I cerakote it. I'll keep you posted.
