  • is it capable of converting .gif to .mov or .avi? i have a gif animation that youtube won't accept. thanks for the tutorial btw!

  • for nixie in youtube;do me not linux;done

  • Thanks Nixie, do more like this.

  • 2:04 DON'T USE -sameq!

From the [old] ffmpeg man page: "-sameq: Use same quantizer as source (implies VBR)."

This does NOT mean same quality. The updated man page actually changes the option to "-same_quant" and adds "Note that this is NOT SAME QUALITY. Do not use this option unless you know you need it."

  • i'd tap dat nerd ;)

  • Wow you really don't know what you're talking about do you? First of all you make it sound like FFmpeg is only available for Debian\Linux distros, when it is of course available for any OS since it is open source and has been compiled many times over for each. Secondly MOST of those 'crappy windows' conversion programs you talk about actually use FFmpeg as the backbone to their programs, so they are only providing a GUI. Finally, if you needd help to write that script you shouldnt be teaching us

  • @bigLtcs I couldn't agree more. While I love Nixie's Linux tutorials, she has got it completely wrong here! Perhaps she doesn't know how to use Windows. I have used several programs for video conversions in Windows and they work flawlessly. Even Handbrake which is available on both platforms. Yet another Linux snob, no doubt I will get bashed for saying that even though I am both a Linux and Windows user. :(

  • My god, the comments in this video make me sick! Come on ppl. Please stop talking about the 'tech' and 'code lines' and start commenting on what's important here, her gorgeous tits, eyes, and smile.

I swear, it seems like YT watchers get more and more uncivilized every year.

  • I am a late bloomer, went to tech school to learn some basic computer. Yes it is a nightmare concerning video converters, I think that may be the reason that Alice Cooper just released his Welcom 2 my nightmare cd. I tried Cnet and it install all kinds of unwated and high risk programs that I do not want. I used the feemake and it was cleared by norton security ass safe, then when program caused major problems, as an after fact after the damage was done, norton listed and unsafe.

  • get win32 builds and kill linux with fire

  • i like super on windows. i hear ffvcl has a nice gui.

    but its 300 bucks.

is there a free one that has a nice gui in the software man?

  • I also use f in for! That's great, I feel appreciated now!

  • Thanks, very good tip and will be useful for sure. You look like my ex-wife in this video haha. Cheers and keep the videos coming.

  • How do I convert a .mov video to .tga image sequence?

  • u are getting prettier ....

  • normally guys who post a computer tutorial wear a Tshirt......Look at her... it seems she's ready to go out with her boyfriend... And she's talking about linux! I love her!

  • Acting like never seen female before...

  • that's realy some sexy and soft voice

  • Nice finally I see a girl using Ubuntu. This video rather old. You would of use this easy nice tool call WinFF which is opensource GNU :] so yeah you should try out Ubuntu 11.04 i really enjoy it alot.. i got it on my netbook and also on my desktop i dont want anything else i find linux is awesomeness and Ubuntu came a long ways eh... and its looking sexy like you ;) oh i am being a dork.. anywas amazing video , i done the ffmpeg shell command before but it takes way to long Cheers!

  • where is the batch script?

  • Hi Nixie, can you please tell me how to make that "impressionistic painting" effect? Regards from Chile!

  • Generic creepy comment!

  • sudo apt-get install this_hot_chick

  • @Doc556 real men log in as root all the time.

  • YOU LOOK ADORABLE AS HELL! IN THIS VIDEO!!!

  • My Linux won't install it.

  • very informative channel ! thanx. just subscribed to ur vids. this is exactly what i needed with ffmpeg!

  • I have no idea why, but hearing the mundane command line options to the notoriously arcane FFMPEG program from this young lady somehow magically makes it fascinating.

  • Use winff, is the gui for ffmpeg moch easier that to everything in the terminal

  • @MrJoe915 cli > winff.

nobody should use the ubuntu ffmpeg package. its a "virgin" ffmpeg :>

  • Soy un fanatico tuyo, a pesar de que uso fedora jajajaja :D

  • Te la pongo el sábado y te la saco el domingo.

  • it's about time someone just makes a regular silly software where you select "lossless conversion to whatever" and press a damn button.

  • i am trying to make a video sharing site and using linux and have modules installed but getting a io error when i upload video

  • for fashion tv effect mute the video for few minutes in the beginning

  • OMG! the ad bar blocks the view of your cleavage! =)

  • Convert To Islam :)

  • its a trap

  • she is being such an incredible idiot if she does not know how to easily convert files in windows ... it is beyond easy ... and there is NEVER any quality loss AT ALL.

  • @bostonbakedbeans28 exactly

  • @bostonbakedbeans28 what do i use to convert flv to uncompressed avi?

  • @WilliamAztech well if you really want the easiest way to do this, it is through a program called Any Video Converter, which is 100% free and easy to download. It can convert almost any video codec to almost any other video codec. And it doesn't even require you have those codecs pre-installed on your system, it comes with the download. I have often found videos that are compressed in a Mac format, that my computer cannot read, but I am always able to convert it to .avi or something.

  • @bostonbakedbeans28 I use AVC, but it doesn't convert to uncompressed avi. I wanted to edit some flv videos, but Premiere Pro can't preview properly most compressed formats. i probably should look for some flv editors then...

  • hello im haveing some technical diffulcuties converting my video files i accidnetly threw my dvd out of the windows and it broke so i tried to burn a dvd and accidently inserted it into my toaster can you please help . i just want to watch yogi bear

  • Did ya brighten your hair color?

but btw not all windows based converters are crap.

FFMpeg is also on windows too btw :)

  • wow this vid gives me a retinaoverload ^^

This is what a shroomtrip must look like ;)

  • ffmpeg has a windows command line version.

  • Marry me Nixie :3!!!

  • Sexy Geek!

  • hmm keep getting this message after trying ffmpeg:-

ffmpeg: relocation error: /usr/local/lib/libavfilter.so.1: symbol avcodec_channel_layout_num_channels, version LIBAVCODEC_52 not defined in file libavcodec.so.52 with link time reference

can anyone help with this? :(

  • Anyone know why ffmpeg will only convert half my video???

  • 1+1=10!

  • how do I uninstall the ffmpeg from my computer? thanks you

  • Never call a terminal application a command line application please :s

    Linux isn't Windows!

  • Sometimes I think some peoples' motto should be "There is nothing you can present to me that I can't complain about". Thanks for taking the time to show us what you've learned sis. Some of us really appreciate it ....

  • Geek + Sun = FF0000

    lmao, so true

  • I love you Nixxie!!!!! :D

  • I'm safe, stable, and sexy too

  • Its like asking for directions, I get sent everywhere but where I want to go

  • How do you do this in windows??? HELP!

  • Guys, please stop telling Nixie she's hot. You are wasting your time because she ignores compliments unless they come from me.

Nixie, you are supremely sexy. I never knew learning about command line stuff could turn me on so much. Marry me.

  • Damn

  • Also, ffmpeg packages are available on more than just Debian-based distros...

  • I watched this on a mobile phone and i could read this stuff so idk wut that guy is smoking

  • Comment removed

  • wow this a great video again thank you so much!!!!!!! xox

  • all of your videos are very helpful keep it up

  • u r so hot

  • Format Factory on windows is probably the best converter there is on the web today.

  • i dont think i have this software so... and even if i did... this ssems like a bit much. i just wont do any vids lol

  • I love your videos. Very helpful, highly informative, and clear smooth voice to follow with. 2 thumbs way up :D

  • There's also a program called MPEG Streamclip that can convert to lots of different formats. It's also a heck of a lot easier than typing in command lines. :)

  • Hi , i want ask you . can i use a digital camera as a webcam on ubuntu?

  • nevermind found WINFF uses FFMPEG but without terminal works wonders. Install FFMPEG and them install Xterm under ubuntu then install WINFF.

  • @durk20 WINFF works great! Thanks durk!

  • that actually takes longer than if I use nero 7 premium on windows 7. Nero 7 does each file in about 2 minutes, and uses a GUI. Just torrent a cracked version if you dont feel like buying it for windows. I wont be using ffmpeg it requires to much and the chance for error is greatly increased. Anyone know of something that will do the same using a GUI?

  • LOL you are smart enough for Linux, but cant use Windows. :D

  • Leonardo582647@yahoo.com lol put m ment. N

  • Well I'm all messed up I'm trying to download ffmpeg for my iPhone have no clue how to do this can you please help me my email is leomardo582647@yahoo.com oh and I have no computer so if u no a way all through the phone you would be a god

  • marrrrry meeee

  • Hey i cant use my hands u have to came here :D

  • Personally, I prefer to use WinFF which adds a very simple to use GUI over FFMPEG. You can select one of several preset output file types or you can choose a custom setup for the expert users. WinFF is available for Windows and Ubuntu.

  • get back in the kitchen

  • I really appreciate your videos. Unfortunately FFmpeg dose not work with Panasonic's formats (*.MTS files), which is why I can't make videos for my youtube channel. :[

    Any ideas?

  • @DIYSurvivalSolutions I did a Google for "mts ffmpeg" found some good info . One being on Youtube. Sorry I'm unable to link the sites in this comment box though.

  • @yenomeerf That's ok. I did get it up and running eventually. I think I was using an outdated version. Duh. Also WinFF is a AWESOME add-on.

  • I could listen to your beautiful voice forever, too wasted to understand a word of this techi stuf, but thanks for whatever it is you were talking about, bright blessings

  • Gorgeous vid. 5 stars!

  • ffmpeg -i FLASHVIDEO.FLV -f mp3 MP3file.mp3

  • i want a girl like u to get married coz u r smart sexy and techie

  • You should try the Quick Media Converter it uses FFmpeg but in a much easier way.

  • sudo make me a sandwich

  • @seganerd89 fuck off you dick

  • @LukeHawkins02 I'm good, go suck your moms dick.

  • @seganerd89 you watch this video just to troll??? no, you actually needed help and you cant accept the fact a girl helped you because you are an ignorant stupid little prick, get off the channel if your gunna be a dick, and "your mom" very 1980s, loving it. now fuck off

  • @LukeHawkins02 I love how I didn't troll, You replied, I said something and you come out with that huge paragraph. Come on know, who's really the troll.

  • @seganerd89 Sudo get a funny joke

  • i love u babe ohhh

give me ur email i like ubuntu

    and i need orientation xD

    i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee uuu

  • Advanced users can also put B-frame quantizer to 1 and select a MPEG matrix for even BETTER results

No need for Ubuntu, Opoompoo or any other incompatible-even-with-it-self OS

  • Chick, stop pitching your ubuntu on ever chance! Windows has ffmpeg AND avidemux TOO!

Sure, windows does have silly programms for amateurs like AutoGK and SUPER that spoil the video by a lot and even ruin picture dismensions, but ffmpeg and avidemux on windows is perfect and professional!!

Everytime I want to convert into Divx, I just launch Avidemux, select Mpeg 4 asp (Xvid) at the video stream, set the Quality (quantizer) to 1, and the video just comes out perfect!

  • You Stay Sexy.

  • apt-get = weak!

j/k.... but i installed from source so i could include some extra codecs that i needed

  • @masskonfuzion Well, that's great. I hope you made a package before installing it, though...

  • respect!!! keep on vlogging! ask money!

  • Wait, supports Windows? Excellent.

  • I'm going to have to install Linux on one of my machines.

  • Hello NixiePixel, your videos is very good.... what program are you using do do it?

I am trying to use the gtk-recordmydesktop, but it's not so good.

Can you describe how to do on video like that?

    Best Regards

  • very informative ... thnx a lot ! :)

  • It's IMPRESSIONIST painting. And they don't look like that at all :)

  • your pretty

  • great tutorials and thx... linux rullz :P

  • your hair changes alot sometimes its red sometimes its orange or blonde....... AWESOME.

  • Not sure if anyone has written this before (I'm too lazy to go though all the comments :P)... Anyways, you can get the same tool (ffmpeg) for windows, and it is still a commandline tool. Just wanted to throw that out there.

    Take care! One <3!

  • Thanks, iv'e ben trying to convert a FLV file to MPEG & you have definately help me.

  • You should do an turtorial how to encode vp8 videos with ivf encoder.. that would make people start using vp8 ;) | Long Live Google & Open Source Software!

  • Thanks for your tutorial, Nixie! It really helped me.

BTW, is it really 100 degrees F (37 C?) or were you kidding?

  • girl trie using camtasia stuido 6 or 7 , ore vegas pro 7 ... then ur videos will be perfect...

  • Comment removed

  • Watched the tutorial BUT can you explain a bit more about audio, video, and wrapper? I'm trying to convert .mov file to .avi and don't know whether .avi is the video codec or the wrapper. I tried using the winff GUI front end but it crashes.

  • @NonFerrousBueller

Mov and avi are both wrappers that can contain video of various codecs e.g. DV, h.264, mp3 etc Shame winff didn't work for you as most people find it less scary than command line ffmpeg but saying that ffmpeg can convert almost anything and can be piped into from a dv card or web cam to do live encoding. All in all a very powerful piece of software. also look out for ffmbc (a ffmpeg derivative) which includes all the broadcast codecs for xdcam, avcintra and avid.

  • Yes I know she looks cool, but the subject is the use of ffmpeg. 1. before you consider downloading and installing an alternative operating system like ubuntu - get an external harddrive and back everything up. 2. you may with to try - winff - which has an easy to select gui for ffmpeg 3. using sameq is okay, qscale 1 (best - large) to 30 (worst - small file) . 4. Ubuntu seems to be the only microsoft alternative that people are pushing but if you go to distrowatch you'll find a world of choice.

  • you are fucking hot.

  • cool video skills

  • Thank you Madam.

  • Very good. I was using ffmpeg but losing too much quality, now I know how to do :)

    Congratulations girl.

  • Holy shit Nixie ;)

    wanna make love?

  • you are so sexy

  • @raducst Try using the fullscreen option.

  • @NixiePixel i did - it s still small but readble

when you tried 7 hours to play a 5 mega corupted video file .mp4 you are too angry to try to read those tiny letters

anyway, this program didn t helped me

used one of your command lines to convert that file into something else but told me "unknown format"

do you know a program that can read a part of a damaged mp4 file?(tried vdub, etc)

  • @NixiePixel

    You do a good job,

    Trolls are always around.

  • @raducst It doesn't suck at all. It's very didactic, simple and easy to understand.

@NixiePixel Thanks! You do a great job!

  • @raducst She uses terminal. Any time someone uses the term "...in the command line..." or a variant thereof, it's in Terminal

  • @raducst I think that say that without have anysay to say to the community is not the right way to dessagree with something the how to is really nice but of course if you have something better you you'll put that like a video response. be a Human and not A TROLL

  • @raducst lrn2fullscreen

  • WOW, i think that it's insane that i've been doing this for years ( /watch?v=ApHxTANgKrQ ), and yet when a beautiful woman does a video, she get's 35,000 views!

Oh well, kudos to you for at least being intelligent, AND for being a Linux user (and a hot woman!).

As long as SOMEONE is getting people to learn Linux, it furthers the cause, so, thanks for your efforts. Take it easy.

  • who ever brought out pixols for movies need shooting in the head

  • que mujer mas linda XDDD

  • Just get WinFF from the SOFTWARE CENTER.... it's a GUI for FFMPEG ... which will make THINGS EASIER ;)

  • This is why I LOVE LINUX!!!!!

  • smokin hot smart chix

  • What if I have the Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook remix?

  • @pokebombing It should work fine. Fire up a terminal and follow the instructions.

  • @purplemutantas WELL IT DOESNT, PROBABLY CAUSE MY FS IS OVER 9000!

  • @pokebombing FS? I have no idea what you are referring to. Once that gets clarified, I might be able to offer some kind of help

  • @purplemutantas File System

  • @pokebombing Your file system is over 9000 what? megabytes?

  • I think your hot and all but How is this easier than windows? seriously.

  • that girl more beautiful, clever and sexy that you're a kiss from Spain, I love you

  • great video

    But, what is a container?

  • i never knew beauty

could come in such a smart woman

  • @StrainPesteHotare to be truthful, if more girls like her existed then this wouldn't be such a big deal to a lot of people. Personally I don't care who talk about tech as long as they do it in a easy to understand manner and has a soothing voice.

I watch Tekzilla and Hak5 sometimes too and Hak5 also got a girl on the show. you horny boys will grow up some day I hope. ;)

  • you can use avidemux, It's a simple software like virtualdub for windows

  • I need to watermark my videos using ffmpeg, but I cannot find vhook

  • Just beautiful, nothing but!!! :-)

  • Thanks for the ffmpeg tutorial with an attractive voice and some nice eye candy to boot. Go you!

  • What does the wmav2 mean??

  • Post on other tubes and talk nerdy!

You might get a lot of views :P

  • A big question to you Nixie: does Kdenlive handle H.264 files? Thanks for advising.

  • anyone know if it will do .mts files or other AVCHD files ?

  • Absolutely fantastic! A gorgeous girl who actually knows how to geek out on a fantastic OS! Go ahead and complain, those who have spent $200+ for an inferior OS, but Linux is the shtick!

  • Spot on Bro...

    This is a rear find...

  • great tutorial! its good to see a beautiful girl like you talking about the almighty linux

  • Nice tutorial Nixie, can you tell us how you got so familiar with Linux, are you self taught or at school? I have never tried Linux, please recomend a study path - and how long would it take?

  • @spamsam99 I am self taught in linux. I recommend starting with Ubuntu, which is what I did. Install it and start playing with it. There is TONS of info on the net. It's all a matter of just spending lots of time with it. It's easy to set up a dual boot with Ubuntu. Or to be on the safe side, install it on a separate disk. You can also run Ubuntu right off the CD or a flash drive.

  • I'm sorry, people like us may find this easy, but without a nice little GUI, the average consumer may not find this easy.

  • i cant say if i feel this is true. I run both windows and linux and a great program for windows in magic video converter free program and works for converting almost anything. I haven't found anything like that in linux yet.

  • I love you!

  • I should type so much "spells" to convert a clip and you call it much easier? lol

  • umm....why is this easier??? i downloaded a freeware converter in windows and does everything automatically.

  • @BriBlade aha, i typedthat above then 2 lines down I see your post.

  • morons like you will never understand the power of linux

  • someones in the back 0:14

  • so what? irrelevant! Like:

    someones doing a video 0:01 - 3:14

    c'mon.......

  • but they didn't moon the camera! opportunity missed. ;)
