When the boys where living and playing in Hamburg in the early sixties they all used to take the piss out of the Germans, doing the goose-step across the stage, flashing the Nazi salute, imitating Hitler, swearing and spitting at the audience. The Germans thought it was great fun for the most part. I don't think that's what this is though. Ringo's just waving to the masses. Maybe just a little pompously.

This was not really a "nazi salute".  I believe even the nazis borrowed that from the Romans, but anyway, this was not a "nazi salute", it was just Ringo waving, and due to the camera angle it only vaguely resembled such a thing. When the Beatles started out playing in Hamburg, they would sometimes shock the German audiences by making satirical remarks about German efficiency and exactitude and comparisons with their once authoritarian regime.
