I love my eganaters but like i say yoy are paying for design not quality , so i will have to re work them myself...they are cookie cutter amps made in a chinese sweatshop called Foxconn , reciently they have had alot of people comitting suicide because of poor working conditions.Im not sure about you but to sound good you shouldnt have blood on your hands for it ,due to corporate greed.when people are killing themselves for cporporaste proffit and the share holders thats not what music is about
On the other hand if you are handy with your hands , you can fix these amps to be quite nice , change out the pots , cheap knobs , check the boards inside 1 drop of acid on them send it back , no matter wherer they are made they should be well built.as for the two tone on every amp they make mojo will cover it for 150 bucks...Like i say what you are paying for is the Engineering bruce is a god at this and one of the best , they just farmed it out for corporate profit to some sweatshop in china.
As for the design they are wonderfull , as for assembly a lot of work went into them , they sound great...its jsut thst the craftsmanship on them is terrible...spend 1000 on a Egnater and 1000 on an england built Marshall and you will see the difference...and marshall pays their employees and and creats jobs in england. When you get a marsall its a work of art , and marshall is not an expensive or botique amp...So sad that bruce steped low to the corporate money junkie barrons.
These are great amps i own 2 of them the only problem is cheap parts , my volume pots wrer nice and stiff whwn i got them , now they are all loose after 6 months. What you are paying for is the egnater engineering , they are still made in china , so compared to a marshall the quality is terrible...so terrible that all the amps and cabs are the same colors...i got a little water on the front board and the black dye bled through...on the grill. They are wort about 1/2 of the cost.
I have wanted one of these for the longest time... Went to try one out with every intention of buying it, and ended up liking the Tweaker 40 better so I got that. Cheaper, great tone, and a hell of a lot lighter. Still think the Renegade is a great amp, lots of nice options.
Check out my video channel for a demo of the OD-308 overdrive/distortion by Monte Allums. I'm using an Egnater Renegade head with cabinet impulses. Lemme know what you think!
Everyone i own this baby and i like it way more over my marshall jcm2000 Its clean is a anything amp i bought it for its clean and i put my metal pedal in this and I Am Boss!
@spencermaddoxmusic id say its more awesome ... but seriously it sounds a bit britty to me on the distortion but the clean sounds a bit like some american models ... its just a great amp and thats all you need to know
Have had this amp for 2 years. Love it. Very flexible tones. Great for country, jazz, pop, classic and hard rock. It can get fairly heavy but I wouldn't recommend it your style is predominately death/hard metal (go for the Rivera K-tre). I love the effects loop and how you can select it to color your clean channel, drive channel, or both. I feel the 6l6 is better for clean but prefer the el34 on the drive channel. Been playing for a long time and I love this amp. Best bang for your buck.
This amp is fantastic!! You cannot get a better sounding amp with all these features for the price. (I got it for $1199.00) Very versatile. I have the 2 x 12 combo. It's friggin' heavy but worth it.
This amp sounds sooooooooooooooo much better than this. This is a terrible and I mean terrible thin sounding clean and an even WORSE DISTORTION. This amp is fat and punchy and none of that comes across on this but then again he's playing a 200 dollar guitar through it.
Absolutely right. Egnaters don't truly come to life till they get cranked. Then jeans get creamed. Every show I play I get "how'd you get that hot sound?" Guitar, chord, Egnater. Loud. Thats it. P.S. - crank your master power, and turn up the channel volume to desired loudness. ;)
@Sk8bordr125 No. Back when I owned this amp (when I was going crazy trying to find a brand I liked), one of the impressive things about it was that I could pretty easily jam with this amp when my roommates would be asleep at 1am. It had VERY manageable volume for it being 65/18 watts...contrary to others, you really didn't need to crank the master to get tone either! I got rid of it though because I didn't like that my high notes seemed to get a bit fuzz-like on Ch.2. It'd be too compressed.
Actually, the sovtek 12AX7-WA that ships with this amp dont have an extraordinary gain.. and are quite noisy.
Upgrading them to good tubes, like JJ ECC803S or Electro harmonix 12AX7 (or others) are almost a must if you plan on playing louder than bedroom level ;)
i still have the same tubes in it with no issues or degradation in tone.Taiwan manufacture(not Chinese) the tubes it came with were reliable Sovteks except for the El-34's which were Ruby....i switched them out to JJ's just to try them..they're still in it and the factory tubes are back-ups I have yet had the need for...if you can
t get a tone out of this amp stick with your Line6 canned Van Halen bullshit tone
I bought this head two years ago..i gig every weekend.we play everything from Johnny Cash to Black Sabbath.I have the Renegade head and the little 1x12 cab..i agree this vid does not replicate the tone that you get live from this rig.....normally i am a Marshall Plexi- Mk2/Soldano guy...this amp has a better clean side than either.the crunch side is as ambient and flexible as you would ever need.Slayer or early Clapton.it's there! The blend function makes it sound like it has Sylvania 6CA7's
Hey! I played this amp with the matching cabinet at Guitar Center yesterday and was deeply disappointed. It sounds great on youtube but not the same up close and personal. Channel 1 was OK. Nice cleans. Channel 2 was a different story(Yuck!) The amp that sounded the best to me that day was the Fender Blues Reissue Deluxe and the Hot Rod Deluxe lll. Fender did an excellent job tweaking the new HRDlll. IM, P90 and humbuckers pups sounded better on the Reissue Deluxe than the Strat surprisingly.
@MultiScoffer Maybe you should find someone that can help you dial in a good tone. I have this amp, it sounds awesome. I have recently compared it with Deluxe Reverb, Hot Rod 3, Supersonic and AC15. The only amp that came close was the supersonic, which blew up.
I'm researching amps and I have it narrowed down to the Fender Hot Rod III or the Egnater Renegade combo. The Renegade is amazing but I'm worried about some of the reliability reviews I have been reading. As far as the tone and versatility goes I'm willing to spend the extra doe (not happy about it ).I just can't afford to buy a lemon. What to do?
i'd say go for something else.. this amp sounds great but has lot of noise and hum (got good ground at home where i tested it). Its really unreliable unfortunately. great amp, but poorly built. you cant afford to have your amp fail during a gig.. i'd say take something reliable. I'm having a great time with Engl, there are lots of good amps that wont fail you out there ;)
@doyengicp I was told the same thing from a salesman from G.C. about all the Egnater amps. Better off getting a Hughes&Kettner Statesman EL34 50watt amp head. But I must admit this amp sounds fantastic. Too bad it's unreliable. I even suspect that they know their amps have on going issues but they just won't do anything to rectify the problem.
I have the Renegade Head, great amp! The speaker cab looks cool but sounds to thin and screamy for me, I had to turn the presence off and the treble almost all the way down. I'm playing it to a Guitarsystems clubcab, sounds much warmer.
good point is, Egnater tech support is great ! if you have a problem, you're sure to talk to them directly ;)
Back to my amp, i got it sent back for refund. We did all kind of tests, and i opened it countless times..the built quality is very poor.. connections are lose, capacitors are bent all over the PCB, the tube sockets dont hold well the tubes..
If it works for you, you're lucky !
Spent 200€ more for an engl Blackmore. Way better !
You need to run the demo in a good sound system or better get the amp and try it in a big place. Playing back with computer speakers just don't do it. I have this amp . and a mesa and a bogner. I will keep them all. Oh put better tubes it in then the ones it comes with and you are good to go.
Echh turn the treble down please. Very harsh. I think it's how you set it, because I see this guy in a lot of demos and the amp's are always way too much treble.
i just got this head with the tourmaster 4x12 cab and it sounds amazing! It has THE best sounding clean channel ive ever heard. Channel 2 has plenty of gain even for metal but to get an even heavier sound i would buy a metal distortion pedal (Hardwire TL-2 is awsome). Overall i spent around $1400 but i dont think theres another that can even come close to this beast! Recommend this to anyone that wants to upgrade to a tube amp
To Charles the guitarist,I hope that you are satified with the Egnater Renegade. I'm not one who usally endorses anything much, but when I read and hear so much about a musical instrument Ilke to check it out. Such was not the case of this amp. I went GC and they had the 20w version, and I thought it would be nice if they had a more powerful version. Low and behold they made the 60w version. After cheking out many of the name brand amps,I decided on this and,I wasn't dissapointed. GOOD LUCK!
Everyone wants something from an amp. Every amp is NOT for everybody. Some people have thier mind set on certain amps. They want different kinds of crunch and distortion. The big question is can an amp deliver what it manufactor says it can. This amp does JUST that. You can get almost any klind of sound that you want from this amp. I've had a chance to own Fenders, and Mesa's,and I found this amp to be sonically more pleasing to me . As far as price is concerned, more money doesn't more..
You've demo'd the two extremes of this amp- super clean, and saturated pre-amp tube overdrive. Both sound fantastic, but there's a world of classic tone between the two- POWER AMP OVERDRIVE! You missed it completely A/B-ing with the footswitch.
What you do, is turn the gain knob all the way down, then crank the master volume to 10. Now bring the gain up until the power amp tubes begin to saturate and overdrive. MAGIC! NOW that tube blend knob will actually do something. Try it like that.
trust me buy this amp. It's by the far the best model in the egnater family. He's totally right when he's the amp is designed for whatever kind of music you throw at it. It can do anything. And the footswitch is the best designed footswitch for any amp I've ever owned. The reverb spillover is really cool also.
I tried this amp out the other day at GC in A closed off room. I was in there just sampling sounds, they had this amp and mesa stuff and also A bogner ubershall which is the one I planned on really blowing the pants off the others especially this new wierd looking and low priced Egnater crap. I tried out all of them and to my total surprise the cheapest one (Egnater) actually kicked the other ones 1700$ more A__ Im still researching them though to see how they hold up, but im very interested.
why do all demo's from this dweeb have an annoying slap-echo?! is he mixing the mic signal with his lavaliere?? (and doing a poor job ?) its incredibly annoying!
Paul... I love your reviews and presentations in general, however can you PLEASE back off the effects when you're demo-ing amps. If the amp has reverb, then demo it separately as a feature of the amp not as the integral demo tone. Thanks...
On the whole, the Renegade does sound pretty damn good...
I just got this amp! it is amazing.. This amp is "controllable"! For me is its a Mesa killer! Yup.. don't get mad.. go and try one.. tweak it .. crank it. No muffle bass like the mesa's! I traded a Lonestar classic. the latest one for the Egnater renegade! Don't regret it at all! by the way do you want to get really close to a Mark V just put it on the tight mode on the 2nd channel.. I have tried both amps and I'll say Egnator Renegade over Mark V hans down. Don't get mad...just go and try it.
I dunno... For a thousand bucks new, I think this is an impressive amp. Lots of features, and a well thought out design. Would love to A/B this with my old JCM 800. Great tone from that, but no features to speak of.
It is the Tourmaster 2X12 cab, youu can take part of the back off to make it an open back cab. This sucker weighs almost 67lbs for 2X12. Heavy and well constructed. The guitarist in the praise band at Church has one and he keeps it on the 18 Watt setting most of the time since they run it direct to the mixing board.
After playing this amp, I think with higher output humbuckers you could get some metal stuff happening. I DO, however, think the amp would be more comfortable with the gain around 3 o'clock and a boost in front of it.
Mine came in yesterday...fucking SICK amp. It was definitely better than I thought. The cleans aren't quite as good as my x100b, BUT that's only because the carvin is 100 watts, so it has the headroom. The lead channel is..damn. Perfect for late 80's type metal. It wont pull modern metal because it has a perfect midrange hump to it (not a high or low mid), but there is enough gain to do it. I can easily get tones from the new AIC record if I wanted..so there's plenty of gain. Love this amp
Amazing, the EQ I have in my H-FI connected to the computer makes something insane to this video. With the EQ (and my custom settings) switched on, the sound from the video is superb, out of this world. With the EQ switched off it is decent, but not so amazing.
I guess, a guitar EQ would make something similar or even better to improve the sound.
@MaciekClockwise EQs are more important than we guitarists give them credit for..A sonic maximer is INDISPENSABLE for anything audio related. Like listen to a demo of one and you'll flip out at how clear it makes everything.
He has the main volume too low....it should be around noon and the channel volume lower... it gives you more threshold and more ooommph.... I have one.
I can see that if you have nice enough neighbors. I just ordered one this morning (I almost got the Bogner Alchemist which I like equally as much), should be here on monday or tuesday..how is the 'main 1' as a global master?
Ditto - recently purchsed. Kicks ass on the Orange Rockerverb 50 that I got rid of, and it's about half the price. Really a great rig. We'll see how the Taiwanese build holds up over the next few years...The Orange certainly wasn't anything special, build -wise.
on the fretboard it looks like there are no strings on his guitar... amazing amp btw :p

@sosmooth7 i went to a shop to try a mesa express and was luckly pointed towards a renegade it was amazing so was purchased :)

SteveHubbardGuitar 1 year ago

THIS IS 2X12 OR 4X12
javyfish 1 year ago
@javyfish

If that's a 2x12"-cabinet, it must be the worst planned one I've ever seen. Be more careful 'bout what you say Paul!

After playing this amp, I think with higher output humbuckers you could get some metal stuff happening. I DO, however, think the amp would be more comfortable with the gain around 3 o'clock and a boost in front of it.

This amp just ripped my head off.. no effects?

MaciekClockwise 2 years ago
@MaciekClockwise EQs are more important than we guitarists give them credit for..A sonic maximer is INDISPENSABLE for anything audio related. Like listen to a demo of one and you'll flip out at how clear it makes everything.

He has the main volume too low....it should be around noon and the channel volume lower... it gives you more threshold and more ooommph.... I have one.
shanman1168 2 years ago
I can see that if you have nice enough neighbors. I just ordered one this morning (I almost got the Bogner Alchemist which I like equally as much), should be here on monday or tuesday..how is the 'main 1' as a global master?

Ditto - recently purchsed. Kicks ass on the Orange Rockerverb 50 that I got rid of, and it's about half the price. Really a great rig. We'll see how the Taiwanese build holds up over the next few years...The Orange certainly wasn't anything special, build -wise.

Wow, this amp sounds wonderful and I love the features on it. I might get one soon :)

Is that the 2X12 or the 4X12? Paul says "With the matching 2X12 Cabinet" but sure looks bigger on the vid! LOL!
