  • I've never seen fsc done this way. I tried doing it this way and it looks nothing like yours. I guess I need more practice.

  • I LOVE this! Other videos make you "find the V" and I end up so messy it's crazy, but this method is super simple. Thnak you. I added it as a project on my ravelry page so I can go back to it quickly, but it's so easy I may not need to!

  • this looks great, but you are going too fast :O(

  • Thanks Beth, the sc base chain video really helped me. I like the way you put the beginning knot on the hook also.

  • Thanks, this video helped me a lot!

  • I want to make a scarf how can i make it. pls.

  • @sylviac1971 Go to my channel and search for back to basics scarf in the playlists. You will learn each stitch and make a scarf as you learn.

  • yes, make it longer ;) After purchasing a larger needle wth no success on the length, I thought the same...my main concern in the beginning was somehow that my finished product would not be correct if I went off pattern on my own...thanks for telling me that is ok..I can still do all the stitches right? 141 foundation or longer...Thanks for bearing with me on all of my beginner confusion...Happy Thanksgiving...Sharo

  • you are the best at replying...I feel intrrusive when I ask an off the video question..but my knitting friends in good fun of course are poking fun at me regarding this potato chip ruffle scarf pattern I am trying to crochet from Lionbrand site..they have completed their pattern in knit...and I am determined to show them myy results soon, well maybe not soon...I was instructed to use a K hook, and no way after practicing many, many chains of 141 in my mind is this ever going to come to 60 in...

  • @sharfriends Why not just make it longer? Remember the ruffles width will also add a little to the length.

  • @Bethintx1 Also, I apologize When I replied last time I did not realize you were referring to the potato chip scarf pattern. I get a lot of messages on different videos and sometimes I do not make the connection to a previous discussion and who is who.

  • Your videos are the best...thank you, thank you..as a beginner you have helped me tremendously..this is a rea quick question on reading a pattern, off the subject of your video I know...If a pattern calls for 141 ch stitches and the overall finish is to be 60', am I correct in thinking that if my 141 chains runs way short that I am making my chain to tight or should I use a larger needle to accompolish 60 inches for the requied foundation size...

  • @sharfriends Yes. But the pattern may have you add a border. So look at the pattern and where it says Gauge. do a swatch at least twice the number of stitches and rows on the gauge and measure it. This will be more accurate.

  • Thank you...does this makes the pattern thingy thicker?

  • @kczish Pattern thingy? It equals your chain stitch and first row of single crochet.

  • Great tip! This is my new favorite way to start projects. I always found it would take me longer to complete the first row than the rest, because my foundation chain would somehow still get tight in some places while I, as you said, "find that little spot to form a stitch." I love this! And I found it easy to follow. If people watching this don't know the difference between a foundation chain and a row of single crochet, then you definitely need to look those up first!!

  • wow seriously? she made the slip not in like 3 seconds without even showing how to do it

  • @ericabreetoe I have several videos showing how to do the slip knot. This video is an alternative to the regular chain. If you are new to crochet (you must be if you do not know how to make a slip knot) then go to the back to basics series or the How to crochet videos. BTW, I am the"she" you are referring to. Why not just ask instead of leaving snarky comments?

  • I have no idea what's going on.. what is the "knot" ? and how do you insert into a knot? I'm so confused... all of these videos go terribly fast, and I'm crazy lost!!!!!! :(

  • @Zarinya You should go to the back to basics videos first. This video is for those who already know the basics.

  • I am reteaching myself to crochet after 5 yrs of not. I need to relearn everything. I would lik eto make a scarf. Can you tell me how many chains?

  • @3meezersandme Make as many chains as you want. You can stop when it is the width you want your scarf, or you can work vertically, and make the chain the length you want your scarf.

  • wtf r u sayin???!

  • @jassyBeZdaBestest I know the sound is bad on this one. That is why I have the annotations on this. Be sure your annotations are turned on.

  • Very clear and easy to understand. Thank you!

  • ok waaaaaay too fast. i had to watch this about 50 times. very helpful once youve practically memorized the video and slow it down in your head.....

  • @omagothizjosey Do you know the basic stitches? If not then you should go to the slower videos I have on the basics. This is not necessarily for beginners.

  • OK MY YARN CAME I AM GOING TO TRY THAT RITE NOW

  • @Tamicka277 Try following the back to basics videos I have on my channel. They are full of information for the beginner. click on my user name to go there. then click on the grid on the top right. this will give you thumbnails of all of my videos. click on the play list button and this will show you videos I have arranged in order for play lists. hopefully you can learn from these. another excellent source of information is Ravelry It's free to sign up. go to the forum "learn crochet"

  • she made that look so easy. i can't wait til my yawn comes. cuz the yawn i have now sucks

  • I know how to make a chain...but im looking for somone that can really intruct me throught this single chrochet sitch....this didnt help much for me.....if anyone knows anyone that can help me more plz tell me the video. Thank you all ! :)

  • @Destinee1220 This is an alternate stitch used instead of making a chain and making single crochet across. To single crochet see the video called Back to Basics: Single Crochet. I'll post it here as a video response.

  • @Bethintx1 Somehow it's not on my list to leave as a video response. You can find it on my channel page. It's full title is back to Basics: sc row 1 of the scarf. Then after watching that watch the one linked to it for row 2 of sc. It' appears to the right of these comments. You can also follow the entire back to basics play list and make the scarf.

  • @Bethintx1 HI MY NAME IS TAMICKA AND I AM VERY NEW TO THIS. I WOULD LIKE IT IF YOU COULD HELP ME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

  • slow down

  • @mizzizzippi101 watch it 2- 3 times, then pick up your hook. Pause when needed. If you do not know how to crochet, the begin with the back to basics videos. I do have slow videos for beginners. This is for folks who have the basics.

  • You're a great instructor! Thank You!

  • so does the look still turn out the same if i do the chains first then go back and make each single crochet stitch individually?

  • plz amswer me with this type of stich can u make a blanket i used 2 crochet but i totally 4got now am going back 4 it and i want to make a blanket but i want it not loose cause the one am makin i losse and i was saad so i came 4 u 4 help plzzz its form my bro in college amd its all cold plz help me!!

  • @glamorousbff This is just the beginning row of stitches. Go to my channel (click on my user name) and choose the Back to basics play list. Learn the basic stitches by making the scarf...then you can make a blanket after you learn the basics. Also you can look at my old videos. How to Crochet lessons on making the granny square. You can continue making the square bigger until it's a big blanket.

  • I tried it and was wondering why mine turned out to be a complet circle? LOL its a nice circle but not the chain I wanted to make. =0)

  • @Morningsidenursery Without a picture, I cannot tell you what you did wrong.

  • Okay, I am really trying to undrstand this single crochet thing. i have been through a book and 15-20 videos on how to single crochet within the last week but i can't do it right. Please dont say practice because that isnt the prblem, i build on TOP of eachother so it would be like a building, not a coaster for example. it is TALL not FLAT. when you get your first single crochet, do you continue to skip two loops? :( PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you, though!

  • @girlrock221 You are at the wrong video. This one is for more advanced crocheters go to my back to basics crochet videos. They will show you how to single crochet. Go to my channel page. click the playlist tab and the tab that looks like a little window. The Back to basics play list will be there. Click on it and choose the single crochet video. You also could watch all of them in order. Sometimes understanding the tools and yarn will enlighten you. I hope this helps!

  • briiliant thanks Beth! this really helped me with my project! x

  • im trying to learn how to crochet and this kinna helped

  • hi! i love this technique. i find it hard when i try to do a chain and work stitches into it as it gets twisted. could i also use this technique for double and triple crochet stitches?

  • @LittleMissJennifer84 I do have videos out for all three! Go to may channel page, click the uploads tab, and search double crochet chain, etc.

  • Bethintx do u do private lessons? I really want to make amigurumis but I need to know basic work. My problem is that I get my knots and chains all jumbled up so I never know where to put my hook. I guess that doesn't really make any sense... But do u know somewhere I can go to for lessons?

  • @cloepika I do not have time for private lessons, but I do teach those who come to our Tuesday group at the community center. You can check your local Jo Ann's and Hobby Lobby stores. Local independently owned yarn shops also give classes. Also check with your local place of worship and community centers as well as community colleges for classes.

  • @stephaniemegan1 ...hi, bethintx1 is the only instructor who goes slow & step by step, people who need to check it over, just click to go back where needed or pause. Try the other instructors & you will see that they are faster than her, but the word 'bs' you used is not proper, I don't think you would like to help nor do something for anyone who would talk to you with the 'bs' word.

  • @stephaniemegan1 I'm sorry you do not appreciate my effort to teach for free. If you had a problem all you have to do is ask for help. Your comment will be removed because of your foul language. I have younger viewers who's parental filters block the video because of swear words in the comments. I chose not to block you because your comment was made in frustration. Good luck finding another video that is easier to follow. There is a pause button on the video player for a reason.

  • is this better to do with cotton or something opposed to 100% acrylic? My yarn hair fuzzies get in my way making it difficult to see.

  • @Aqlimiyah This can be done with any fiber. But you are right. Cotton works well.

  • oh! your video was the most helpful for me! I've been juggling my fook and yarn for a long time . thank you so much, Bethintx1!
