Three years, i got mine three years ago, i have pushed the CPU, GPU, and the whole laptop itself past its limits, using almost every day and some times running for days without shutting it down, i have dropped it by accident from low heights three times... upgraded RAM, upgraded HDD, and my Vostro... is just like new.

I have the inspiron 1520. It's a great laptop. I ordered it in october 07 from the outlet.

I then bought the nvidia 8600 card and a motherboard supporting it from ebay.

I went from the intergrated graphics to the 8600 card with ebay parts. It's now decent at games.

They are great laptops

And I though my ThinkPad R60 was thick, it was pretty and slim in comparison =P

Also I don't know if the plastic quaility is bad or my friend is just so clumsy but she managed to brake a piece of the front in under a week.

i would suggest you buy Vostro 1000 (cheap but good)

unlike vostro 1500, 1000 series doesn't have the whiny sound thing and loose battery ( at least that's what's on all the reviews i found

If you really want more out of Vostro, call them for a broken keyboard then a powerless battery and they will replace it. I would really like to see Sony give that kind of great service(ha). I sort of wish I held back and waited for the Dell XPS M1530, but Vostro 1500 still kicks ass.

I'm not a big computer games fan, so I couldn't tell you that, but I know that Compiz on Linux(which requires a lot of Video RAM) runs smoothly.

Lol, I'm thinking of getting a Vostro over an Inspiron because I find that with 1GB of ram more then the Inspiron the Vostro is $100 less. Granted the Vostro processor is slightly less powerful but I'm thinking that won't be a prob with XP.
