I thought this was held in Brazil. You say Mexico. Don't know who is right, but it was very interesting. Gotta appreciate Hitchens. Really hope he beats his cancer soon and can get back to making appearances.
i wish there were some subs on this, any idea where i could find a copy of this with english subs? the bit at the end where everyone says their little soundbites in about twenty different languages is excruciating!

This is OK, but hang in there. Hitchens comes out swinging in strong form in his second speech. This is a great series of talks. I wish I was there!! Thanks to Prophiscient for posting them!!
Hitchens not on top game, me thinks. I've seen him sharper. And at the end, I thought he was drunk. for a moment. Plus, although I agree with his design based cosmological viewpoint -- the refutation of the fine tuning argument -- I think it's quite weak in these debate situations. I reason that any theist could still, quite easily, continue believing the universe was designed.
I agree. Fortunately, such arguments simply aren't necessary, as Harris articulates during his time. Besides, imagine any universe that's anything like our own in which intelligent life arises. To the sentient beings of that universe, they're existence would seem improbable. How could it not? To go from there to an argument for design is to confuse coincidence with causation. It's also the indication of a deficient imagination.
@devotedpupa because they all have a brain dead look on their faces like he's speaking gibberish. there is zero interest in the content from that crowd, and because it's in another country, i'm assuming it's because they don't understand it in its capacity.
this audience looks bored and distracted, either they've been sitting there for hours on end, or they have the collective intelligence of a toaster oven and the whole seminar is over their heads
lol ye.. when u uses that somwhere else, ppl usually laugh. But i guess it has to do with it being in mexico. They either dont get the humor or are trying really hard to understand to get it.
Christianity wouldn't care for allien visitors so we wouldn't develop huge laser guns, what's the problem with that?
Christianity wouldn't ban porn, what's the problem with that?
Science depends more on ppl who loves to invent and discover... comes to mind the fathers of modern science.
This kinda arguments are mere rethoric, useless in real life.

The nail that sticks out furthest gets hammered first. That nail is religion and that hammer is Hitchens.

I think the audience probably understood about 30% of what Hitchens said...

Just did the CC transcribe audio for automatic translation of the Spanish. 'Chris Hitchens' comes up as 'actress teachings.' Ace.

@rmcdaniel423
Actually it's a repost, but the audio quality of the original file was so bad that it seemed worth the effort to fix that.

@Prophiscient I agree with rmcdaniel423 and join him by saying thanks to Prophiscient. I also MUST agree that Hitchens' second speach is EPIC!!!

At 6:45 he seems to make a connection between solar variation and global warming which is not as strong as what can be found in Wikipedia.

What a shame that such a great intellect is TOTALLY WRONG in it's assumptions as to the existence of CONSCIOUSNESS!!

Sam Harris' arguments always are always on the nerve of the relevant and significant points in exposing flawed thinking. Still love Hitchens though.

Damn it he tells the truth, and I love how they're so depressed. LIVE WITH IT. IF YOU GUYS BELIEVE IN GOD YOU HAVEN'T LIVED A DAY IN YOUR LIVES.

it's obvious the audience doesn't understand english at the level hitchens is speaking.
