I have been wondering for a while on comments like this. Could you please be so kind to answer: What is so wrong with Socialism? or Why is Socialism a bad thing? I would really like to know what, in your opinion, is wrong with the whole concept.
Socialism is based on the idea of eliminating a class system, or in other words taking money from the upper class and giving it to the lower class. In essence this seems like a great idea because it would eliminate poverty. However, this takes away from the American dream. In this country we have the right to succeed and fail. We should not penalize those who have found a way to succeed. This is the problem with socialism and why it hurts our American ideals of capitalism.
Well, lets start by saying that there are man currents of Socialism. And I dare say that most of them don't penalize the rich, they don't take away there property, there means of production, in essence they don't take there Capital. What most currents like to do is take a bigger contribution to those that are fortunate and invest it in people that... never had a chance to succeed or fail, since they started in the worst of conditions, a mangled and bleeding man can't compete in a race.
Even a man who starts in the worst conditions has a chance to better himself. No he may never be a millionaire, but he leaves his son in a better position than he was. The reality is that many in the lower class do not try to fail or succeed. They think the government owes them something, and they take the free handouts. That is not what this country was built upon. Government should only be a safety net, and only help those that tried to succeed and failed.
"Government should only be a safety net, and only help those that tried to succeed and failed" You mean giving golden parachutes? Or is the government going to help people with housing problems? Because they tried and failed. The fact is everyone tries to be better off, and everyone tries. Most fail. Its also a meritocracy, since the talented succeed no matter what (like a smart kid in a rundown neighborhood), but not everyone has those skills. Your principle is erroneous.
"Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude. - Alexis de Toqueville
Also, no-one said that there going to get a free ride. BUT... I'm saying that you should make an even playing ground, your words "Safety net" are the perfect example. You give people the basics to LIVE, if they want to excel, they do so on there own.
Your view of Capitalism are summarized by "Everyone out for themselves", don't help you neighbor, win or loose, kill or get killed... or so they seem to me...
Even if what you say is true reality says there is only two options and Obama is the BEST man for the job! If we are "blind" over Obama .. then voting for Mccain should be considered str8 suicide!!
I do not deny that McCain is also unworthy of becoming president, however electing such a liberal extremist is not a solution either. I hope that Barack Obama can find a common middle ground and can reach across the aisle to bring us back together. I believe the solution may not be found for another four years. Where is the next Ronald Reagan? We need to find a candidate who can bring a real change, and the experience to do so. There is no one in washington now who has beliefs to do so.
Take a look at a documentary called Iraq For Sale, a good insight into how the Republicans are keeping the pvt contractors in Iraq doing what is ordinarily the jobs of soldiers and as a result raking in $Billions. Particularly companies like Cheney's KBR/Halliburton. It is war mongering at it's finest and the D's are all opposed while the R's vote all in favor of it. If the R's stay in power there is a chance this war will never end.

Yes! Forward to socialism! Why is everyone so blinded by him? Neither candidate is a solution.
