Even the 1997 Flyers? Cause i seem to remember them getting CRUSHED by the Detroit Red Wings 4-0. The Eastern Conference wasn't strong that year, so the Flyers were able to use their top line to blitz through the first 3 rounds...kind of like the Pens did with their top line (Sid, Hossa, and Dupuis)...but then they ran into a much more experienced Detroit team, that even though it didn't have the talent the Pens have, it had a good system and great defense(which wins Cups).

The Cryers barely made the playoff in the last week of the regular season and it took someone else's loss to do that.

and you guys call Flyers fans cryers and excuse makers. The Flyers have talent (7 20+ goal scorers (2 with 30), one of the most prolific offenses in the league, and a solid young core). The Flyers may have beaten a 1-man show but Ovechkin is the best player in the league and has the ability to take over a game himself, so beating them wasn't EASY like people think, especially since they were favored to win. As for the Habs, Price didn't collapse, he was just inexperienced and it showed.

Also, the Flyers may have just made the playoffs but they went 7-1-1 in their last 9 games and did what they had to make the playoffs. They proved they were worthy of being there by beating 2 teams that were favored to win by a large margin. They would have beaten any other team in the Conference if they had to play them (Devils, Rangers, Bruins, Sens, etc..). The only reason the flyers had to sneak into the playoffs is because of a 10-game losing streak in Feb. cause 4 injuries to key players.

The Penguins suffered far more injuries during the season (7 AHLers playing) and still rose to 1st place in the Division. Had the Cryers lost one more game and the Pens didn't tank their last game, the Cryers wouldn't have even been in the playoffs.

The Pens made them look like an AHL team when it counted.

The Penguins have another game breaker in Malkin who was able to take over and elevate his game and basically replace Crosby, which helped them win without him...then there was the stellar play of Conklin. Had this happen, that happen, blah blah. I respect that the Pens were able to overcome Crosby and Fleury's injury but understand that the Flyers don't have a game breaker like Malkin. I could easily say that the Rangers almost missed out with 97 points cause they were only 4 points from 9th.

By the way, the Flyers did win the season series against the Penguins 5-3...i know you guys sandbagged the last game but it still stands. The Pens made the Flyers look like an AHL team because Kimmo Timonen and Braydon Coburn were out for 4/5 games of the series. When they're out, the Flyers defense gets exposed with Hatcher and Smith playing more minutes(they get caught out of position), they don't have a legitimate PP quarterback, and are more susceptible to defensive-zone turnovers.

Timonen and Coburn to our defense, is like Malkin and Crosby to your offense. Imagine if you guys had to play without your 2 best defensemen (Gonchar and Orpik)...yea. I'll give you an example from a team the Flyers played in 2004. In the 2004 quarter finals, the Flyers played the Devils...and Scott Stevens(30 minutes a night) was out for the series for Jersey. The whole dynamic of the flyers attack changed cause Primeau was able to crash the net and the Jersey's Defense was soft without Stevens

Yea the Caps could have won in 7 but the Flyers could have also swept them, had it not been for a blown call in game 1 where the Flyers were killing a penalty and one of their forwards was hit in the groin with the puck, thus resulting in a 5-on-3, and a capitals goal. And worst team? Hah! The senators were in so bad of shape that anyone would have beaten them, that was in the postseason. The Caps were on such a high that it's possible they could have beaten anyone, except NYR/Pens/Flyers

Again...it doesn't matter how they got in, all that matters is that they did, and proved that they belonged by beating 2 heavily FAVORED teams while in the postseason. The Flyers weren't ready to beat the Pens, because of their battered Defense and not being able to contain all the weapons that the Pens had this playoff run. It was good enough to just get into playoffs after finishing dead last, last season. All that matters is moving forward each season.
