I think it was disgusting in billions of ways, that poor Colin Baker was ousted from the role but if he had not been he would have only got five seasons as the doctor. It would have been because the show was axed for a long time, and I would rather the show end with Colin than Sylvester who I could not stand.
@scarface12347 I think Colin should have been cast, as Blake in Blake's Seven ad Colin would have been billions of times better as Blake than Gareth Thomas.
@scarface12347 I think Colin was ace in Blake's Seven as Bayban and he should, have been cast as Blake instead of Gareth Thomas who had no staying power at all.
Everybody knows carotene is lethal to Time Lords, but out of a speck of the courageousness that carried over from his last incarnation, the Doctor took it, like Socrates. :-D
Sadako 24: "Time and the Rani" Began, Sylvester McCoy's part as the 7th doctor. There were reasons behind why Colin Baker had been replaced by Sylvester McCoy, but I can't remember them. On another note, I not only met Sylvester Mccoy, but had A LONG chat with him. He is a really nice guy! :)
Sadako24: The scene were the doctor and Mel fade out and it shows the keeper and the scene were the tardis is forced to land are to completely different shows. The first is the Trial of a Time lord, the second with the Rani another show that beings the show "Time and the Rani" (More)
@kellyarch I met both..... sadly the bbc in 1986 was very anti-DW and only gave the ok to the 1986 season to keep the fans happy after the 1985 hiatis... Anyway, the ratings wasn't good (opposite the huge A-team) and the BBC gave the ok for 1987 if Colin was replaced... It was classic they got rid of the actor that wanted to stay and kept the producer that wanted to move onto other things..... Anyway, Colin never hated Syl - it was a case of the Doc taken from Colin and given to Syl by BBC.
@Borusa1976 I always tought the ratings for the Colin Baker series were not that good because the scripts totally sucked. Well, not all of them. There were a few pretty good episodes, but most of the episodes were well below the standards of the past. Trial of a Time Lord was downright confusing. Plus the first Colin Baker episode did not present his Doctor in a very good light.
Baker unjustly got the blame for the series failing. The scripts for Sylvester McCoy were not any better.
Can't see why he'd let that bitch Melanie push him around. I detest people who do that because honestly... what would you do if some person just waltzed into your place and started telling you how to live your life? Mel should've been chucked onto the nearest habitable planet with plenty of carrots to plant.
It could've just been a "potential future" he picked from the Matrix. After all, if the courtroom sees that the Doctor goes free, then it renders the whole trial pointless. Unless the Time Lords send him on a mission of some sort, but then it gets all stupid and unneccesary. Plus, time can be changed in different ways.
they cant go to the vervoids story after the ending of trial, coz mel already knows all tht happens in it when they bring her in as a witness.
the doctor prob takes her back to wherever she went with glitz after dragonfire and then he goes off and eventually meets up with her and they have the vervoids adventure.
at the time of the end of trial the vervoids is in the doctors future, but mels past.
i agree how abput they change it so the tractor beam still hits and mel is seen on the floor then a beam cuts right through and zaps th doctor causing him to hit his head and throwing him to the floor then the tardis lands the sound of the door opening is still heard but all that is heard after that is the music and the rani saying as the creauter turns over the doctor "take him to my laboratary " and thedoctor is shown regenerating but the face of the 7th
It's good. To avoid certain confusions, I would cut out all shots of MEL and RANI after the space battle and cut straight to the monster turning over The Doctor.
anyone reckon that the Valeyard 'cliffhanger' will be taken up eventually in the new series (Michael Jayston is still alive), although it was taken up in the novels.
Research your Doctor Who continuity and you will find the Sixth Doctor had a good few adventures in between trial of a timelord and time and and the Rani
What I like about John Nathen-Turner in 1986 and 1987 is what he dressed Mel in a different costume, Blue in Episode 14 Trial of a Timelord and Pink in Episode 1 of Time and the Rant, this means more off-screen adventures did take place between the 2 serials, Nevertheless in was completely injust dismissing Colin Maker, I do like Sylvester McCoy better, but I would have liked to have seen more from Colin Baker.

The original (original) ending by Robert Holmes, which had the Doctor and the Valeyard locked in battle in the Matrix, would have been even better. Sadly it was vetoed by the astonishing untalented producer, the late (and not missed) JNT.
The problem with the original Robert Holmes ending would be that the BBC could have used it as an excuse to can the show then and there and there would have been no more Dr. Who. I'm not a JNT fan either and I didn't like the TOATL ending but he may have made the right move by going with the wimpy ending as it kept the door open to keep the series going.
The original ending was actually written by Eric Saward as Robert Holmes sadly died before he could finish the story. I've found the script for Saward's version on the internet, and having read it I definitely prefer the "wimpy" ending, as Saward's conclusion just isn't satisfactory, with the Master left laughing in triumph, and the Time Lords quietly relieved that both the Doctor and the Valyard, two inconvenient witnesses, have been removed! All a bit too cynical for a family series!
This version of advents would have been far better than what did happen, it's rarther upsetting really, personally I would have found a backstory to how no 6 regenerated better
I think I read somewhere that the Doctor hit his head on the console causing the regeneration. I like what you did with the Scrapyards laugh, very sinister.
I rather think it was the carrot juice ("aaaaw. Carrot juice?") combined with the fact that Melanie always acts as an annoying, over-bearing, over-protective mother that caused the regeneration!
Well, ordinarily they would have. But Colin Baker's abrupt sacking from the show and his subsequent refusal to film a regeneration story for the BBC made this impossible. Still a good edit though.
i'll second to thirteenth that! I honestly think that if Colin had continued on for a few more years but was still followed by Sylvester, the show would never have been canned!
SPOILERS: In Spiral Scratch, the Doctor is badly injured by chronon energy and his regeneration was already in progress when the Rani attacked the TARDIS.
So basically we know how the Doctor is going to end up.He will turn evil and become the Vaqleyard.
So basically theres no point in watching, since we know how the DOctor is going to turn out now.

I wonder if anyone is going to re make the 'real' endning to Trial Of A Time Lord
Where the doctor(s) fall into a gap in time and the cliff hanger has Mel saying that she know's the Doctor must survive.
It would have been a wicked ending but I can understand why they never done it!
