@rashb Thankyou for the compliment, it was my first session on the board for 18 months so I was a bit uncoordinated but as you can see she's a smooth board. Most 12 foot guns are not ideal for the job as they are too narrow and light, but 12 feet is a good length, I have several 12 foot boards which are very good gliders. It's just a matter of getting the design right.
@RoyStewart Thanks for your response sir. I'm fascinated by these big boards for the sheer glide factor. This 12ft gun I was looking at is plenty wide 12' x 23.75" x 3.75. I'm trying to find something to simulate your board on the cheap or at least that kind of glide. With you having riding some huge boards would you say the difference in glide between 10''6 and 12 ft is not that much. Or is it drastic?
@rashb Well it all depends upon the other design factors, in particular width and weight . There is a big difference though, all else being equal. I'd have to see the board you are looking at but what I've seen of most so called gliders out there is that they are like noseriding shapes with a slight point at each end... rather parallel in the planshape. That feature makes them poor at turning in trim. They also tend to be too thick for good control.
@dozeberrypillboy If I told you . . . well you know the rest ;) I have a new 19 foot 'Olo of the Sun' under construction, 852k (US) or equivalent in silver and gold .
Unfortunatley thats outta my price range as I'm sure it would be most people. Can totally understand that price though as I'm sure there would be many hours of work to produce one of these beautiful things. There cannot be to many people left with your skills. Next time I'm in NZ I'll definatley check out your museum.
I seems that the surfboards were meant to be. I've been surfing since 1965, and made a few wooden paipos back in 1970 with my cousin. I've always been a student of boatbuilding, yacht and surfboard design, and in 1994 while living a reclusive Island life I had a flash of inspiration which showed a new method of wooden surfboard construction. Since then it's been a continuous process of inspiration, logical progression, board creation and surfing, here in New Zealand
i highly doubt fry ever made 12ft, redwood, surfboards. think that symbol is just a star design of some sort. does look similar to the fry logo though.
must take a while waxing that thing!

This is the most graceful surfing. Is it possible to buy a 12 ft gun and surf in small waves and achieve the same kind of smoothness and glide?

@dozeberrypillboy I don't make nose riders, they are inefficient trick boards. The price is correct.
