I had this test last night. I was almost impossible to sleep with 28 wires (I counted) attached. Hard to roll over - the wires pull off - they have to come and fix them. It itches. And then there is the "hub" looking thing in bed with me that you can't roll on.

Usually I fall right asleep within minutes, but it took me nearly three hours to fall asleep last night. I slept for 3 hours - they said they need a good two hours worth of data to do the study. I will find out next week the results.

I had this done in October 2009 because not only was I exhausted but also so tired of waking up with a sore throat, your spouse waking you up because you stopped breathing and scared them or are snoring so loudly that no one else can sleep. I hated going out of town on business because if I shared a room I subjected others to torture. Now I sleep so much better at night and actually wake up refreshed with the machine I sleep with. the "Polysomnigram" or sleep study is even better, with leg switches, eye switches glues to the sides of your eyes, and 12 lead ekg's and enough wires for the space shuttle, not to mention the hose probes that monitor how much air flows or doesn't from your nose, then they make you sleep on your back, (not me) anyway after 4 studies, I now sleep soundly with my CPAP machine :-)

I was diagnosed with high moderate (very close to severe) sleep apnea and use the CPAP machine every night. My quality of sleep is much improved over what it was before I used the machine. When I was tested, I stopped breathing 121 times during the night. The lack of oxygen is detrimental to your heart and brain. A lot of people don't realize how serious this condition really is.

I had one of these studies done and I had way more wires all over my head. It is really hard to sleep properly knowing that someone is watching you and not being able to turn like you normally would. I had to wave at the camera if I neede the loo then they could come and unplug me . I think even if you don't sleep as well as normal they can still tell if you are getting the right proportion of all the various stages of sleep when you do eventually drop off.
