92% of teens have turned to pop and hip-hop.If you are part of the 8% that still listens to real music, copy and paste this message to 5 other videos. DONT LET ROCK N ROLL DIE ! Thumbs Up If You Agree
Its cool to see Duran Durans early TOTALLY 80's videos, then see these 90's videos. I was just trying to describe to my girlfriend what a "90's looking video" looked like. I think I'll show her this or "Come Undone". Total 90's!
The 80 British music has to be the best music of any era. 70's American was probably second. Those were the days. One great song seemed to arrive after another. Today we have the cheep and the nasty, with an occasional good song here and there.
what an inspiration to other addicts let your pride go and all your friends and learn to live with out dope!!!!!!! wow how awsome if your not an addict getting clean you miss all the little keys to recovery!!!!
this is about getting clean the ghost is dope and the ordinary world is the one we have to live in clean but we have to make our way and we do survive! clean! the lie is dead once an addict always and addict? not, not no more we do survive in the ordinary world. he wrote this song in rehab and believe the ghosts of the dope are mean.

One of the few introspective story songs from this legendary group. But it is very good and fitting of how the times had changed from their reign in the '80's to the early 90's. Talking about "holy war and holy need". Bosnia and Serbia were murdering each other and Israel was getting bombed about every other day during that year the song came out. Anything they did was great. They simply had the golden touch from Rio to Come Undone it did get much better than that.
Love this song, 2 me, it sounds like they are singing about transitioning from rock gods 2 ordinary people in the ordinary world. They say in the song it doesn't compare to the great heartaches on earth, but it is their little sorrow. Pop belongs to youth, which means aging rock stars retire or look stupid chasing youth from a plastic surgeons chair...either way, it is rough on aging sexy rock stars!
This is by far Duran Duran's best work. Everything from the lyrics to the music arrangement, it is a work of art. Listen to the full version with the longer intro and middle guitar riffs to get the full genius of it all. Ordinary World is very underrated, it should have been up there with the Eagles' Hotel California, Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven (overrated), and U2's one. They should have won some kind of award for this masterpiece.
anyone that have ever suffered with emotional or mental illness can relate to this song......all we want is to be part of "the ordinary world", but it is just out of our grasp. Be happy that "you" are ordinary.......it must be like heaven
alot of bands call themselves "musicians" these days are in for a quick buck, and have no "soul" in the noise they make. groups like DD are her for the long haul and only put out albums that have meaning, not just to put an album out
OH. MINE!! THIS SONG AND THE VIDEO ARE SUPER!!! I REMEMBER MY TIMES WHEN I WAS YOUNG. OH, BEAUTIFUL DAYS!! THEY ARE IN MY HEART. IN THOSE TIMES I HAD A BOYFRIEND HE LOOKS LIKE HIM CAUSE HE'S TALL, SKINNY, HIS HAIR, HIS LIPS, WOW! WHAT A WONDERFUL DAYS!! GOOD!!!
@EARLTIPTON well i hear alot cause of my kids and cant say as i care for much and some is absolutly awful and foul ,there is 1 song the second i hear it i turn the radio if that had been made in the 80 it would never been on the air.
@timsricochet I'd never heard of auto-tuners until I read your comment here. Wow, I read up on it and it is pervasive and quite controversial it seems. Apparently it's a commonly used crutch for marginal voices in pop songs.
God I love this song... There an awesome band... I'd give anything for music to be like this today... And anything to go back to the eighties, nintys and early two thousands.
This song sprang from the ethers of creation and was a gift to Duran Duran who then gave us the most important song and message of all: that of coming back to sanity after being TOO HIGH Or too low for too long. And in the scheme of things, what got us worked up in the past doesn't need to be where we're at now.
I was just wondering. How come that the first thing people usually think of when they hear this song is about people they love or some wonderful moments spent with a person they were deeply in love with? At least I do. Its like an instant time travel machine which explains eternal love in about four minutes and forty seconds.
@holodock The song is part of a trilogy (along with "Do You Believe in Shame" and "Out of My Mind") about a close friend of Simon's who died young. I'm not sure what the circumstances were, but the idea that it would remind people of past relationships, romantic or otherwise, fits the concept of the song perfectly.
:( To me DD was never the same after Andy and Roger left. I like and applaud the fact that Roger has returned to the DD fold but it's still not the same without Andy.
After seeing these RED comments and not being familiar with them, a did a quick search. I thought I would hate their version but to my surprise they did a decent job. But anyone that thinks RED's version is better than DD is severely delusional.
Awesome song. I saw DD in concert and they sang this song. But, it wasn't until a few years later that I really appreciated it. Doh. I did it in reverse order.
This song has the same pop-hearted feel as Viva Forever by the Spice Girls - nearly diabetic by the tune sweetness but pulls it off (unlike LOADS of other pop songs)
I understand what you're saying, but I think you mean that the world is ordinary now without bands like this. Back in the day, bands like Duran Duran made the world extraordinary.
It's funny every year or so I'll end up listening to this song on my bed dealing with another crush that's moved away. Perfect relationship end song :)

Personally I hated the eighties and all it stood for. Bad taste in fashion, bad taste in sexuality and some real shockers in the music world. I beleive it is the decade where the balance of power between the races was forever changed. For the first time, woman were potrayed as the stronger sex, and the men were reduced to homos with bad haircuts. That said though, there was some classics from these bands,
@lordtalon69....You are not alone my lord...Question is...are we better off searching for the ghosts of the past and crying for yesterday while at least somewhat perversely enjoying the pathos of that lost time, or are we better off telling ourselves that there's an ordinary world that we have to find where life will feel normal again? I'm 33 years old and still undecided about this one.
@Barrettm95....What would we do without it indeed...and what would we BE without it? Just other empty vessels I suppose like the kind that think Katy Perry or 50 Cent offer anything meaningful. When life offers nothing that truly stimulates the soul like the present era, which seems almost entirely devoid of meaning or character, one might fight themselves longing for a past that made more sense and meant something. And yes, I enjoy mourning the past...but I don't believe it's entirely healthy.
quite possibly their most timeless song. Not saying there other stuff is bad you can identify most of them from the 80s. This, is harder to tell when it came from.
Agreed. From the days when they put a little more THOUGHT into both the music and the videos. "What has happened to it all, crazy some say" .. for sure. :)
The lyrics are nothing special, but still a really good song

Personally I hated the eighties and all it stood for. Bad taste in fashion, bad taste in sexuality and some real shockers in the music world. I beleive it is the decade where the balance of power between the races was forever changed. For the first time, woman were potrayed as the stronger sex, and the men were reduced to homos with bad haircuts. That said though, there was some classics from these bands,

You're a distasteful ignorant... Beiber is meant for 12 year olds... Are you 12?
Only uneducated Neanderthals resort to insult.

Some credit must be given to a band so heavily associated with one decade being able to chart in another. Props.

Where is the life that I recognize? I want to find an "ordinary world" too...It's been so long.

I agree I feel like I am stuck in a past and am a stranger wondering through the present where I Do not belong ;(

@xraycat30 your comment made my hair stand up. We do perversely enjoy the pathos, don't we? What would we do without it?
Barrettm95 1 year ago

I love all of their songs nonetheless.

Agreed. From the days when they put a little more THOUGHT into both the music and the videos. "What has happened to it all, crazy some say" .. for sure. :)
