  • 2 dislikes? Ron Hextall and Brian Murray

  • As a Wing fan this rocks!...however, didnt know it at time but this was one of the all time greats (IMHO) final game as well!...That being Dale Hawerchuck who was in Flyer uniform that night.

  • To this day I have no idea why the Joe waited until 10 seconds to go to address the crowd to not throw anything on the ice? There was the whole period of time between the Flyers goal and the face-off to announce that. Instead with the crowd on its feet cheering as loud as they can the announcement was made. You can hear the crowd actually quite down. Thankfully the play stopped so the noise could build back up. If play continued it would have been a sore spot on a moment 42 years in the making.

  • one of the greatest moment in all of sports seeing yzerman jump into vernon arms! truly remarkable, it was just epic to see a guy like that who had fought so hard to win the cup and been through so much and to finally win it wow! #19 FOREVER

  • All the cup wins have been sweet.

    But 1997 was the best.

  • "Yzerman on the ice, where he should. At center ice, where he should be."

    Truer words were never spoken.

  • "there we are Yzerman on the ice, WHERE HE SHOULD BE, AT CENTER ICE, WHERE HE SHOULD BE", Bob Cole said it so right, and it was awesome that Yzerman was the first to celebrate with Mike Vernon

  • @TUdaToken oh yea then Lidstrom the next captain after Yzerman celebrates with Vernon, that's just awesome

  • and Big E never got that close to the cup again....

  • cbc so owns VS and NBC

  • @thegov1020 Yea thank goodness that a Canadian Tv network like the CBC get's the rights for Hokcey Night in Canada year after year i mean it's the most watched sports show on CBC every Saturday!!!!! NBC and VS suck

  • @thegov1020 AMEN.

  • lindros was the leagues leading scorer in the playoffs in 97

  • Not against detroit!

  • in the entire playoffs 26 points in 19 games, but i doubt he led in the finals

  • Bob Cole you are the greatest, some many great memories of you calling games threw the years thank you

  • That was a monster Detroit team. Yzerman, Fedorov and Shanahan in their prime. Plus Larionov, Kozlov, Lapointe, and Draper.

Lidstrom, Fetisov, Chelios, and Konstantinov on defence.

Btw, this was Konstantinov's last game.

  • can you post that following Stanley Cup finals where Konstantinov finally stands up please.

  • Absolutely!! a monster team for sure. However, Chelios didn't come to the Wings until the 1999 season.

  • and murphy was on defence too

  • @leafyutube No Chelios yet, not for a few years

  • @leafyutube Chelios came to the team at the trade deadline in '99.

  • @leafyutube Chelios wasn't on this team in 1997.

  • @leafyutube But was is funny is Toronto fans booed Larry Murphy out of town and he ended up with back to back Stanley Cups with Detroit.

  • @leafyutube ... no cheilod until 1999..
