  • Love this music

  • What movie is this from? I remember this in a movie..

  • @Noob3rt123

    Love and Death Woody Allan

  • Reminds me of when I watched Woody Allen's movie "Love and Death" as a kid. Officially one of my all time favorite comedy movies.

  • @alphatotheomega7 much mo' bettah than woody allen is "The Horse's Mouth" starring Alec Guinness.

  • The Score & Parts for Prokofiev: Lieutenant Kijé Op.60 can be found at SheetMusicX [dot[ com

  • The 1st time I heard this "Lieutenant Kije" was when I was a teen .... 33 rpm "Angel" records.... never forgot about it. THANKS for posting. btw i am past 60 now...hehhe!

  • love that cello line, it's stuck to my head

  • i wish i was russian too

  • 0:29 is scored in Home alone movie Im sure of it!

  • Am I crazy for thinking that this reminds me of Home Alone in some parts? XP

  • This piece sure does remind me of riding in a sleigh through the country. I have never been to Russia but I sure can picture it!

  • Great Instrumental !

  • Pure joy! Thank you. Nothing more iritating than having a tune in your head and not knowing what it is. Prokofiev was a genius! Russia must have been a wonderful place during his life. The joy he brought to mine.

  • @aberdown It was.

  • @aberdown :

You dont know what are you talking about. About Gulags? About murders? About Stalin? Really wonderful place to live!

  • @merapi007 This is why I love the Youtube finally we get a balanced POV

  • @aberdown

    Thats right.

  • @merapi007

democracy is much-much worse than "Gulag". In fact "Gulag" is just another anti-Stalin and anti-Russia myth.

  • @dicthash yes of course it is! Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn made it all up, he never got 8 years in the camps for criticising the workers best friend, strategist of genius and the greatest political theorist the world has ever seen.

Have you ever read any books?

  • Like this post if you think Prokofiev dresses well. :)

  • its not wrote by a russian its just in the style of :) and isnt a christmas song ethier

  • @TheDevil12344 ummm... this was written by Sergei Prokofiev, who is def. Russian.

  • @laqerhill lmfao obv i was on somthing when i put that im a music student sorry i ment it isnt a xmas song but obv russian sorry folks im obv failing :L

  • the story was about that liutenit kije never existed because the russion people did not want to tell the russion president that he did not realy exist or he would kill them so they had a fake funneral so the king would believe them

  • I would love for the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra to do this piece with Gustavo Dudamel. Check out Dudamel doing Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

  • Superb orchestration!!

  • perfect for christmas time

  • i just love this composer!

  • The Sauter-Finnegan orchestra did a piece called "Moonlight Sleigh Ride" based on this "Troika". It is on Youtube.

  • Awesome. One of my favorite pieces. Well-played!

  • Could someone with musical training explain to me why I think of 'Sing a Song of Sixpence' hidden somewhere in this famous piece?

  • Heard this on The Simpsons episode "Pranks & Greens"

  • i love this song in Woody Allen's Love and Death

  • me too!! 1 11

  • the orchestra im in is playing this suite. its pretty cool. i get the honor of playing the triangle...lol

  • natezynski:

when my orchestra played this, I at least got to play glock :)

  • i didnt know there was a glock part for this...for this particular movement there was just triangle, sleigh bells, and tambourine...weird...

is it from a different movement?

  • No, it was definitely this movement. Maybe a different arrangement?

  • lets hope so :/ haha.

  • @natezynski I hope you didn't screw up!

  • @GenBanks haha thanks. i didnt! snare and triangle...w00t!

  • @natezynski fellow percussionist! i can play the bass drum XD

  • @pyreshadow sweet! bass drum's cool :P

  • @natezynski Hehe, there's nothing better than that!

  • @natezynski I'm so proud of you.

  • This piece always reminds me of Woody Allen's "Love and Death"

  • does anyone know how you pronounce the "kije" in the name?"

Yes its pronounced Kije hope that helps.

  • It sounds like "Kee-jay"

  • does anyone know how you pronounce the "kije" in the name?

i played this with my group before but we called it troika. so we never called it that.

  • Our concertmistriss is Russian and she pronounces the j as a really soft g. Like the J in jean. Thats the best way I can explain it in writing. (Key-jeay)

Trokia is actually the 4th mov of five in the Lieutenant Kije Suite

  • "Kizhe". :)

  • KEE JAY

  • The k is like the k in 'kill', the i is like the ee in 'feet', j is like the French j in 'je suis', the e is like the ye in 'yes'. Keezhye.

  • The cyrillic for it is Киже and the ж is like a soft "zhuh." so "Keezhye" is pretty accurate.

  • (and I forgot....) I have heard it anglicized as "Ki-jee" the "jee" sounding like "Gee" in "Gee Golly Gosh" and my Russian voice teacher seems to find that perfectly acceptable.

  • Is it just me, or does Prokofiev look like he could be Vladimir Putin's long-lost dad?

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry about that.....yes, there is a resemblance there. You have a keen eye.

  • A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a professional photographer. A "keen eye" goes with the territory in that line of work.

  • Nice but doesn't compare to The Isley Brothers' "Voyage To Atlantis".

  • Eruh..... Lt. Kije is classical music? Voyage to Atlantis is mundane music? The two are at opposite ends of the music spectrum.

  • To the untrained ear, Lt. Kije sounds like tripe. And I did have a listen to your voyage to atlantis and that's why I said what I did. Lt. Kije is not intended to evoke feeling or emotion. The intent of the classical piece is to show the superb work of the composer and the ability and the dexterous skills of a fine orchestra. The two pieces are as different as night and day. Your VTA presents no challenge. Sorry :(

  • ANybody know who's playing; out of curiosity?

  • The Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra..

  • @BOSOX9004 It's those assholes. Uzbekhistan.

  • @BOSOX9004 TheWickedNorth knows all! :D

  • I've loved this piece since I first heard it!! I bought it when I was 14...still wonderful.

  • agree 1000000% with 'dlamiss' could listen to this all day. That's the magic in Prokofiev, never gets boring, always sounds fresh. The Montegues and Capulets is another example.

  • I love this piece! I love Prokofiev's music!

  • Brilliant, entertaining and high quality music

  • Pure genius.

  • I remember watching a stop motion film of this when i was a kid. i've remembered it ever since, and it reminds me of myself trying to conduct a class full of 8 year olds on tom- toms, glockenpsiels, xylophones and recorders in one of my own compositions. i love it to bits and will be watching the latest stop go motion picture over christmas.

  • I wish I was a russian.

  • @comradejanus You had your chance, but the imperialists gave you Mujahedin.

  • could never tire of hearing this piece

  • Lovely.

  • Too good to be wasted on Lieutenants.

  • We're playing this in band. :)

  • A TRUE Master..Excellent

  • Thankyou simply beautiful! xx

  • KIJE!

    BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO PROKOFIEV!

  • LOVE AND DEATH!
