  • cool.. that'll be helpful ty..;

  • Very Interesting!

    God Bless

  • Free Open University predates Free Ed and UOP but is still probably not the first. Free Open University is the only one that is Actually Free. No expensive CLEP Tests or the many Fee's UoP charges.

Their are others listed by the Collegiate Independent Study Association too.

  • The financing needs to be reworked. Students have to be able to directly donate to professors. I wrote a paper outlining a system I believe will work better. Email me for a link to it.

  • I just sent off my application....fingers crossed!

  • I don't think it is the first, unless it was lauched before 1998. Free-Ed.Net has that distinction.

  • this is a good development coming at this time when education can not be afforded by many. but what is the application and admission process?

please i will like to know and start working towards it.

  • Bravo

I like this and I am grateful that there are other organizations working along with UotP.

  • If you can not afford the fees for UOP please consider Free Open University. Open Since 1996 Free Open University never has and never will charge any money.

Full Accreditation is Provided through Collegiate Independent Study Association - Also Free of Charge.

  • @freeopenudotorg Collegiate Independent Study Association offers Full Accreditation for University of the People Degrees . Their fees are very low and no one has complained about the University of the people quality. If anyone does have a problem with the quality you should report them to the Collegiate Independent Study Association. They register Zero complaints other than a few people upset that they are not completely free. The fees are reasonable.

  • @freeopenudotorg Thanks. good information.

  • so the real truth is, it isn't actually free is it? I find it kinda hard to believe companies or places love to use the word "free" a lot then when their customer actually is interested they charge them like wtf. if it's gonna cost something don't use free. it's like going to a restaurant and they offer a free meal but then they want you to buy two other meals first then they'll give you one for free like wtf it's not free after all then so why should i bother.

  • I am a college instructor. Ask yourselves this, "Do you REALLY need a degree to get the job you are looking for?" Probably NOT! If you want to work in the field of computers, there r thousands of computer techs AND instructors working all over the world, including the USA, who have NEVER gotten a degree in computers and have high level positions as network administrators and programmers. There r many jobs where hands-on experience is much more important than a stupid piece of over-priced paper!

  • I am a 100% disabled vet so traditional education is out of the question for me. How and where can I apply?

  • without accredidation, this means nothing, not being negative, being realistic.

  • @GGAlice1 with all due respect, no one with dis belif can go so far; u can get well qualified and acquire lots with free online. and then get ur accredition wen u feel u want to, cause by den u'll be hotcake

  • I hope they get accredited. Education is essential. I like Free-Ed and MIT Opencourseware along with free lectures for learning things. The internet is capable of educating millions.

  • This just sounds like a scam.

  • Does M.I.T. know about this?

  • MIT knows everything.

  • haha

  • Interesting idea. Would be more valuable if/when they get accredited.

  • exactly! accreditation = validation.

    a degree when they're accredited = a valid degree.

    valid = viable

  • This is cool.

  • Student groups get a TA for logistics & to gate keep for volunteer teachers. The U. "has no obligation to monitor Communication Services" (forums). Student privacy? "by posting... you are granting... the rights to: copy, distribute, transmit... your Submission; and to publish your name." So classrooms are not an official activity, students have no privacy and faculty are not present. You get proprietary exams administered at testing centers for a fee. How is this open? Free? A university?

  • U ALL GO TO ED-NET.,ther u could study for free. of course u dont get not diploma and nothing but u dont need it .u make u own diploma and certificate or bachelor or doctor afeter u finish u courses ,then if they dont belive that u got skills and education ask them to give u a test,u will be hired on the spot .

SO GO TO ED-NET FOR A REAL FREE EDUCATION....

  • @asmetuyasiempre If you complete a full four year program at ed-net . You can apply for accreditation for your program from Collegiate Independent Study Association. If your work qualifies, they will accredit your education. If you do exceptional work, the honors program at Collegiate Independent Study Association will issue a Certification of Full and Complete Knowledge for you Ed-Net program.

There is no charge or cost for CIS Accreditation But extra Essays may need to be written.

  • now the brick and mortar colleges will one day be a thing of the past.

  • Tuition free, oh yeah, except for admission and a "test fee".

  • I agree man, so ridiculous. and he said each exam is between 10 and $100

let's take the mid range 55 * 32 courses for a degree(assuming one exam per course) = $1760 only income of 2 years for someone in india. Let alone who the fuck is providing internet access. I guess he expects them to not eat while they go to school, fraud.

  • At least he's trying to do something

  • Exactly, some people are so negative! It is a growing trend and we hope that in the future things will only get better!

  • Moreover, its Americans that are the worst, most negative people anywhere.. slaves to the negativity they are brainwashed with by television.

  • well geo, i havent been to anything out of country online but just judging by comments on youtube, id say we are the most dumbassic attrocious people on the planet lol. I went to a flu treatment video and thier was a nurse introducing people to eat chicken soup if they had the flu and she had like 8 or 9 comments of people heckling her badly lol. If thats a worldwide phenomenon I wonder how we made it out of the stone age.

  • I hope this isn't a scam.

  • Awsome concept.
