You can certainly still use C2A and Portlet Services, bu the ajax and rest services are intended to be lighter and more agile when it comes to developing and deploying. Of course, its a new way of programming if you're not familiar with JS. However, when it boils down to development, test, and deployment, you're looking at less time than it would be to create a Portlet Service. No restarting of the servers to pick up a change is a good example.
This looks great, but looks only takes you so far. Will this be as easy to implement as creating a JSR-168 portlet, or will it be as difficult to reproduce as Click-2-Action and PortletServices? Only time will tell.
Can't wait to see the Eclipse/IRAD/RSA plugin from Rational!

Going beyond simple Ajax and JavaScript.
