I actually learned how to read with help from Sesame Street, being a bit different that kids of the late 80's and early 90's, my parents had noticed I was reading street signs very well because of it
If you watch Sesame Street in the 80's/90's, you would have noticed that the in and out crowds were complete oppisites of each other, so the song in the video is talking about oppisites, thanks to laughingsal for explaining that
I'm actually quite annoyed with my memory that for the past 20 years I didn't think about this once. But just now seeing it on youtube my brain goes "Oh yeah, here's the files for that I had locked away for no real reason"
Look for the user named laughingsal, that's animator Sally Cruikshank's channel and you'll find it there. Or just check my Sesame Street Cartoons Playlist, it's on the first page :-)
Wow, it's obvious that the people who sang this got into it to a ridiculous extent. I mean, PULL IT OUT DRAG IT OUT HAUL IT OUT, etc. It's wild, I love it, I love them. They went so far for us. Thank you, Sesame Street people!
This is a late 80s skit. Classic on so many levels. It not only teaches about the Opposites in and out but also on society as a whole. I could type a paragraph on this.
i dont think there is an old sesame street skit that i dint like lol i swear i think it was all ruined when elmo became a regular now the show like revolves around him and stupid elmo world is like 40 minutes long
Wow... yeah. Wow. I still know all the lyrics to this, even though I haven't seen it in a good ten years. Thanks for sharing this, TinyDancer, and I've been frequenting your awesome site for quite a few years now. :)
Does anybody know the name of another Sesame Street vignette with animation just like this in which a female with blond hair has on a pilot's outfit and goes flying with no airplane? The name of the song?

The bone I have to pick with this is, it reminds me of how I was an outsider when I was growing up :(
MiltownPunkette21 2 years ago
Hey me too!
To me, I read so deep into it as a kid.
The In-crowd represented society to me but the out-crowd was the iconoclasts.
I went overboard on this.
And to think, I was just a little Autistic kid who desperatley wanted to fit in with the In-Crowd!
ElectricShark 2 years ago
Autistic, eh? One of my exes is autistic :) What type of autism do you have?
MiltownPunkette21 2 years ago
Asperger's.
Maybe this is why I read so much into this as a kid.
I always wanted to dance with the In-Crowd as a kid but I subconciously knew I was part of the "out" crowd.

i loved this as a kid but it gave me nightmares!

Anybody notice the bong that gets put in the fridge? And what is that the "In Crowd" is harvesting in that field...
MavericksJSF 2 years ago 13
LMAO! Nice catch, I never noticed the "bong" before :-) Gotta be something else, though, even the hip Henson crowd wasn't *that* hip!!

It's a toy, a wooden duck (or dragon or gator?) with little wheels on the bottom.

Thanks for the Sounds Archive, it's great!

@TinyDancer500 it's a toy duck, I think, or a "drinky-drinky bird".

TinyDancer500 2 years ago
Haha--I just didn't know why they needed a song for that--even toddlers get the concept of inside and outside!

Wrong...the Song is "The In Crowd" by Dobie Gray in 1964. They kept pretty close to the original melody..

Well, it was a parody of a late 60s song; the writer did a good job of keeping the original style.
