The dogs a daedra, hence its quest title "A Daedra's friend". Im not sure if you discovered it since volume is down and no1 really says that, but yea. As for the cute little puppy, don't kill him at the end of the quest! :D

You can keep him and not finish the quest and the won't die, and you can get another companion. So you basically get 2 companion at the same time.

Y'all never played Oblivion? Barbas was in Oblivion too... Granted, he wasn't frolicking... he was a statue... but you still could side with him or Clavicus. Don't know why people are so floored by a talking dog, common thing to see in fantasy nowadays (Brian from Family Guy, etc, etc, etc).

This isn't an Easter Egg at all. I just finished the quest and this dog is actually Clavicus Vile's dog. So this is actually a daedric quest.
