Why don't more country artist write and sing songs like this. I'll tell you ,they can't, times are not the same as when Marty grew up. All people want to hear now is junk, with few exception, I know there is a few, but they are of a rare breed.
I am a grown man known for my tough ways. I cried like a baby when I heard of Marty's death and I had not cried since I was 9 years old.
@76301rick I used to sleep with my radio on every night. I was listening to the radio when it came on as a breaking news segment that Marty had passed away. I'll never forget that ever. It was very sad. I was 7 years old at the time.
I got hooked (as many others did) on Marty Robbins the first time that I recall hearing him sing "I Couldn't Keep From Crying" in or about 1951. What a phenomenal voice and entertainer. His career is proof of this. Marty left us much, much too soon but his memory lives on in his recordings. What a wonderful gentleman. Rest In Peace Marty.
WIthout doubt, the voice of Marty is technically better than Eastwood. But the voice of Eastwood, together with his body language in the theme, was so much sad and depressed that make me cry.
I'm a tough guy, but I still cry when watching Eastwood collapsed in the studio.
I've got the DVD of the movie.

Marty Robbins was a great songwriter AND singer, an all too rare combination today.
Then again, there will never be another like him, so why should they bother trying?

he died shortly after making this movie.this was one of his last recordings.
