For Who, Talmy got Page for "Can't Explain" but Pete did fine. Page did parts of "Bald Headed Woman" B side. Richard Cole was The Who's roadie then became Zepp's. Zepp loved Moonie, etc. Alot from that era not into Zepp - K Richards, Clapton, etc. PT admits he was intimidated by Page and he, RP and JP all friends now.
couldnt agree more. Although Townsend does play well as lead too but not as fluid as Page. Townsend became a better guitarist later in career tho. His playing at Live 8 was superb. Page started as kind of rhythm guitarist and bassist tho when he first played with Beck in Yardbirds and Clapton for some solo stuff they did together around time of Bluesbreakers

@Pluis1970 I agree with you that you cant compare moon and bonham, for some reason it's very difficult to compare drummers. however, i do believe that you can compare guitarists as long as they are in a similar era/genre which townshend and page were. page was a much better guitarist, probably #1 or 2 along with hendrix. pete was a great songwriter, one of my favs, but as a guitarist he probably ranks in the 40s or 30s. you cant compare the 2 in the sense that page was so far out of petes league

Or the 'Isle of Wight' concert DVD? Not only does the Who go above and beyond, they also have incredible showmanship. But Led Zeppelin is astonishing to watch as well, I'm not going to lie.

I personally like the who much more, but last time I checked, every classic rock radio station has a "get the led out" or "Zep Set" in their programming, thats def not something you would see from an underrated band, if anything zeppelin is over played. If you want to talk about underrated rock bands, how about the kinks!

@viperlegendkiller Page on guitar 4 "You Really Got Me". Ray D. w/ Shel Talmy in booth. Kinks later pissed Page broke session man's rule not to reveal their work. For Who, Talmy got Page for "Can't Explain" but Pete did fine. Page did parts of "Bald Headed Woman" B side. Richard Cole was The Who's roadie then became Zepp's. Zepp loved Moonie, etc. Alot from that era not into Zepp - K Richards, Clapton, etc. PT admits he was intimidated by Page and he, RP and JP all friends now.

couldnt agree more. Although Townsend does play well as lead too but not as fluid as Page. Townsend became a better guitarist later in career tho. His playing at Live 8 was superb. Page started as kind of rhythm guitarist and bassist tho when he first played with Beck in Yardbirds and Clapton for some solo stuff they did together around time of Bluesbreakers

this is almost as good keith richards smashing his axe on some asshole who ran on stage... he thought the guy was going for jagger and was pissed off because the stage is HIS turf. Richards was also a man who could be a mean drunk.. he was known for pulling guns and knifes on people.
I think richards should be mentioned. keith is usally pretty happy when hes on stage.

Pete's rage on this was probably the reason they re-filmed the live stuff at Shepperton for TKAAR . They were all in pissy moods at Kilburn because they thought they played like shit that night. They hadn't done a concert in well over a year and Keith's substance/alcohol abuse was starting to really affect his playing at this point.

Townsend , genius and all is a notorious dink. They really all were dinks in there own right. Glad Daltrey stood up and brained him on more than one occasion. Moony was all cute and smug but driving his Bentleys around drunk as a skunk all the time, if he was my neighbor I would have shot the arsehole.

@Pluis1970 I agree with you that you cant compare moon and bonham, for some reason it's very difficult to compare drummers. however, i do believe that you can compare guitarists as long as they are in a similar era/genre which townshend and page were. page was a much better guitarist, probably #1 or 2 along with hendrix. pete was a great songwriter, one of my favs, but as a guitarist he probably ranks in the 40s or 30s. you cant compare the 2 in the sense that page was so far out of petes league

What? Nooo, no no. Haven't you listened to the "Live at Leeds" Who concert album? "My Generation" is about 14 minutes because they improvised about half of it. Pete played something that came to his mind, and Keith and John quickly followed with something to go along with it. And that's not the first time they've done that! I do agree that Jimmy is a great improviser.

Hell, I know that Jimmy's a legendary, extremely professional guitarist. I have a good amount of Led Zeppelin concert DVD's. But have you seen 'The Kids are Alright' concert DVD? Or the 'Isle of Wight' concert DVD? Not only does the Who go above and beyond, they also have incredible showmanship. But Led Zeppelin is astonishing to watch as well, I'm not going to lie.

Bron Yr Aur Stomp solo (live) -> Acoustic solo of overture (from tommy) (VERY SIMILAR!!!)
Dazed and Confused -> 'unofficial' cover of original one by yardbirds and many more
even though, i LOVE led zepp and they're one of the best bands ever

I also don't understand why people compare the two, there is no comparison between them other then they are rock bands. You can think the Who is better all you want, but Zeppelin doesn't just dominate the Who, they dominate all for eternity in the realm of music!
