It's highly competetive and you really have to know your stuff. Get as much critical care experience in the ED and ICU as you can and as many special certs as you can.

As a former ER nurse this would be a great job, however the role is performed by Intensive Care Paramedics where I live (Australia).

Flight Nursing is the top 1% of nurses. It is very demanding and time consuming for eduction and maintaining competence. It is also totally worth it.
