  • my first ever console game. my Dad got this game with the ps2 he got me on christmas 2002, so many memories

  • I saw a copy of this game at a local video game store. After seeing the gameplay, I am convinced. I will buy it, if its still there.

  • I bought a PS2 in 2010 especially to play WipEout. Despite being 10 years old half of the songs are still awesome. The level design and attention to details is simply outstanding. I'm a graphic whore but I have to admit that the graphics are still nice.

  • SUPAH BAD GRAPHICS!!!!!!!!!

  • @WTFgamervids Graphics doesn't make a good game.

  • @WTFgamervids You are a fucking idiot.

  • lol i was playing this game with the music up full blast and my dad started dancing!

  • you know shits going down when bolt up is turned up to max volume

  • there goes the mint music

  • I still have this game, sometime freezes from all the scratches but works fine, I remember gaving a save file from when I was 8, with piranha fully upgraded and ~75% completed. Sadly, it vanished.

Now I started playing again but now I see how many, MANY bogs this game has, a shame, cuz it has awesome tracks.

Waiting for a remake of this tracks and a classic pak dlc for ps3.

  • i miss it game so much bring back memories, good graphic, fast ship, upgrade and best tracks when i was 10 i play it game all day

  • WOW, I cant believe I never played this game before! I will get it for PC, well if not, for PS2, and play it on the emulator :)

    Thanks for the video

  • When it comes to futuristic racing games, wipeout fuels my hunger until the next F-Zero

  • This was the first PS2 game i've ever had.

  • @Hellzone2011 me too. one of my favs of all time

  • Best WipEout game IMO...

Also, of course the race looks easy, the guy's using a fully upgraded Piranha. And from the looks of the video, he's a fairly skilled pilot.

  • I play this on my PS2 emulator. :D

  • my first wipeout game, i was really bad at it, but i loved it, at the time ive never played anything like it, ahh the memories

  • Remember going so fast during zone that you'd fly through track.

  • Ahhh good old Wipeout Fusion. I have been a huge Wipeout fan since playing the very first one on the Saturn. (yes the Saturn! haha) This one was a great addition to the franchise but it still feels like the odd one out in the series, i can't put my finger on why tho. Alot of the later tracks seem to be ALOT more complex and sometimes just plain ridiculous and confusing. Im sure i remember trees in the middle of one of the tracks! 2097 still holds the title for best game in the franchise imo

  • The HUD looks the same with HD

  • lol good old memories

  • god this takes me back to my child hood lol

  • odd a wipeout without speed classes.

    but great anyway.

  • @Cyberioxxi2 Its a really old game...

  • @DragonScar666 the older wipeouts than fusion had venom, rapier, phantom classes...

its not because if his age...

  • proton cannon!!!

  • WIPE OUT IS STILL THE GAME

  • What's the name of the first track?

  • For an early PS2 game, I must say, Im very impressed by the some of the graphics this game has (some of the texture details in particular are really worth a look) In some areas, IMHO, It's even flat out beats the PS3 version. If ever creating future games, companies should lead STRONGLY by this games example. This game seems a very underated classic, and an EXTREMELY well made game for its era. This game still looks amazing almost 10 years after it's been made. Now THAT is what a game should be.

  • @TheRenegadeawesome Yeah, but F-Zero was for kids,WipEout was for Teenagers and People who love electronic music :D And anyway,WipEout is way more fun...

  • I would go as far to say this could be the top game on PS2... In competition with GTA San Andreas.

  • This game's well done, but you'll enjoy it MUCH more if you never upgrade the ships! I'm having an hard time trying to win every tournament but it's much more satisfying, trust me.

However XL is still the BEST.

  • can wipeout 2097/xl play on ps3 ?

  • can u go in first person mode n the ships?

  • @KeIIinator Yh i believe you can :).

  • @KeIIinator Just checked, you definitely can :) lol.

  • KAPPA SIGN INSIDE? HAHHAHA

  • I just bought this game but only to come closer to completing my Wipeout collection. I thought it was gonna suck from looking at footage online but it's actually really good! My favorite is XL on ps1 but this one isn't as completely awful as i thought it was gonna be. The music really bad though. I don't like techno but for the most part of this series they normally use music that fits and sounds calm and futuristic but that's my biggest gripe is the headache inducing music!

  • This game blows chunks compared to the earlier PS1 versions. Terrible.

  • why u dont use xios?

  • was it just me or do these ship designs look..... cheap?

  • Holy Shit thats fast!

  • easiest way to get credits to upgrade ships??

  • Rocket fish :D

  • this brings back so many good memories. se this is why i love playing video games. they arent only hella fun but they also put a stamp on howyou felt back hen.

    inner happiness XD

  • @NeXFerret Agreed, I always hated how jumps kinda snapped you up in the sky then slammed you back down, no real gravity at work there :(

  • LOL. Reminds me of F-Zero.

  • In Wipeout 3 weapon announcer was also useless (and also had an ugly, old female voice, I'd like something cute and younger lol I'm not a pedophile Oo), for the same reason, she was telling the weapon that you have just like in Fusion. The newer Wipeouts are just like 2097/XL in this case. I don't like Fusion very much, it doesn't have the "feel" of the rest of the series, the design is very different, the ships "glue" to the track, I prefer HD, 2097, 3 more than Fusion.

  • I never found this game

    D.A.M.N. XC

  • The sirens at the beginning of a race make me really want to play this game again. The rumbling on the controller which occurs when your ship almost about to blow up doesn't. :/

  • This game actually looks a lot like F-Zero, compared to the other games in the series.

  • The most frustrating in the wipeout series - but still fun. If only they'd spend another month or so working on it.

  • travelling 2238 kilometres per hour would have given me a boner :P!!

  • Best Wipeout Ever, imo

  • I remember EGR and XIOS were the most ridiculous ships in the game, especially that bloody shield drain XIOS got which drained most of your health!

  • youre quite good

  • Piranha ship is extremely fast. Although I fly Feisar. First track is my favourite! Nice flying dude

  • That's a ridiculously fast ship.

  • i did not know they made a wipeout game for ps2

  • whats the first song?

  • awesome

  • Its like the Mario 2 of the Wipeout series. Regardless of it's completely different gameplay from the series, its still a fun game to play.

Still, I wish I can find a copy of Wipeout pulse for the ps2

  • u can say what u want but this is my favourite wipeout game :)

  • LOL i i have hd on my ps3 (which i am here on) and on phantom it rulz "ROCKETS!!!" *epic explosion* "CONTENDER ELIMINATED" ROFL good job announcing Tanya

  • damnit! i wish I could play these games this well.

I want to enjoy these games but i just can't get good at them, especially at speeds like these D=

  • 0:44 i loved going over that jump

always trying to hit it at the best possible speed

  • Personally, this is my least favourite Wipeout game. There was something about it which made it feel like it wasn't really a Wipeout game, though I can't put my finger on it. I didn't like the menus for a start. I have to say though that the introduction of "Zone" mode was brilliant and was the best part of it.

  • That something were the controls. The WipEout series had that kind of controls where you always looking at the direction of the ship's nose, while in this game they made it like drift =/ btw, wipEout owns! i had the original for the saturn, i played the pure demo for psp and ive got hd fury for the ps3, wich is epic hardcore in supersonic speed!

  • I guess that was part of it, but then the ship designs became radically different too. I preferred the more elongated angular ship designs.

  • yeah that too. it made it look like a copy of f-zero 0_0

  • I think its also the announcer's voice. One, you could barely hear it, and they should have just used the female's voice instead of the deep male's voice that you could barely understand. Well, it was my first wipeout game, I still like it regardless, much fun. Although about the controls, it felt a lil more like F-zero-ish.

  • The funny thing is that the female announcer voice was useless due to announcing the weapon you, the player, picked up. In 2097 the announcer was announcing enemy pickups: "Rocket!" "Rocket!" "Missile!" "Electro Bolt!"

They've corrected that in later installments though.

I liked the deep male voice in 2097... 3, 2,1, go!

  • MMm, Well I've only played Wipeout 64, Wipeout Fusion, and Wipeout HD(demo). IDK, but out of those three, HD has the best announcers. I like it how they scream at you so that you can actually hear it. I love that in these kinda games, alert and alarm systems telling you you are about to die and you are just clutching to you controller till the end (F-zero, Star Fox, Wipeout). Really gets you're adrenaline pumping in a way.

  • I think the models looks too bulky... like the graphics are overweight... also most of the sounds, feel like they come out of a old 50s movie (like the cannon sound effects)

Even Wipeout Pulse ported onto the PS2 rocked over this game. As the graphics looked much sharper in the menu and ingame, I prefer that one over this game.

  • The ships and the tracks...

Believe me I feel the same way...

  • holy hell ! thats fast !

gona buy this for ps2 for those borin monday nites..

can get it used for 7e

got HD for ps3 but dang ,this looks hardcore !

  • wipeout fusion, pure, pulse and hd are the best of the series. Go Auricom!!!

    and ag systems

  • yea my fav is AG in HD :)

  • Feisar rules!!! i know they were shit but those super missiles fucked things up ive bought the game twice an 100% it but i still miss it as they are both fucked good control with that pirahna ship there bastards to control

  • In my opinion the best Wipeout is WIpeout XL. It was so innovative when it came out. The graphics, gameplay and above all soundtrack.

Afte this game I would say that WIpeout Fusion and HD are the other good ones.

Wipeout 64 was the worst of the series...

  • good control ;) i totaly missed this game cuz i just never found it on stores when i got my ps2... im startin with hd now n its realy great! i played wipeout, wipeout 2097 and wip3out. i was a master at 2097 .. realy.. wish they made a dl for it at ps store with online modes.. heheh wipeout 2 with online play.. major win! (i miss the very obscure track design of 2097)

  • this is such an EASY race. LOL... 1st after one lap! I'd have more respect if you'd shown more of a challenging race! :)

  • Sadly, this is the way the game is. You'll be tearing away from the AI with any ship fully upgraded.

Slower speeds are just as easy too, since the game gives you plenty of quakes/boosts/gravity bombs if you're lagging behind a bit.

  • hey dude

ive completed he game twice, and to be fair, for the most part i agree with what you said. never the less there are competetive epic races to be had.. good upload anyways dude

  • @Murulo

Really, though, all of the pre-PSP games are like that. Wipeout 3 is my favorite in the series, but even I hate how easy it is.

  • @Murulo

Actually, let me give credit where credit is due: Wipeout 64 had decent opponents.

  • @Murulo true to an extent but the vid wud have been more interesting if u were de bulky auricom or easy to destroy van uber... man was this game legendary, still remember the names.

  • Fusion has what I want in a racer. Intense, simple action... and BIG JUMPS!

  • i didn't think graphics could get better than this when i first saw the game, but i was wrong.

  • they should put the pit lane into wipeout hd

  • -WipEout -WipEout 2097 -WipEout 64 -Wip3out (aka WipEout 3) -WipEout 3 SE -WipEout Fusion -WipEout Pure -WipEout PULSE (PSP) -WipEout HD -WipEout PULSE (PS2) -WipEout HD FURY HD is best of all, next is 3, but imo - Fusion is worst of all. Sorry, but this is not WipEout style, the ships are not flying, design is bad, ships are "fat"... And no Goteki.
  • You see I didnt like HD at all. Fusion is ok, nice track design. The main issue i have with the series is the feel of the craft. I love Wipeout, 2097 and Pure due to the weighty feel of the craft. After all they are heavy machines. I find the other games are almost too smooth and light and have no real sensation of piloting a craft.

  • You're entitled to your opinion but WipEout 3 was the one that was not WipEout style. Look at HD, Fusion and XL(2097)'s track scenery similarities. WipEout 3 seemed to be the one that doesn't fit. imo XL is best because of the soundtrack. ;o!

  • -wipeout SEGA

    -wipeout 2097

    -wip3out

    -wipeout 64

    -wipeout fusion

    -wipeout pure

    -wipeout pulse

    -wipeout HD

    -wipeout

  • i loved this game back in the day wish it had online play i would have been one of the best lol now i feel old lol...

  • i like the ships, DUAL TURBINE! Super fast! lol

  • wat a top game i have been after this fir years and brought it off amazon for a quid and its here now buzzing

  • egr technologies iz the best ship on this game. the quake being best weapon. i luv this game so much

  • we need wipeout fusion 2 be back on 360 nd ps3. plizzzz i luv this game

  • GOOD GOD! memories...

  • Why you not using the weapons???

  • man...this reminds me of how crazy ps2 was when it had come in....

    crazy framerates...

  • man i love wipeout, still looks good even today

  • wipeout 2097 was the last amazing Wipeout, they've been getting Meh from their on, it never evoled and the music just wasn't as good as the first 2 games, the moment Psygnosis got bought by sony was the moment Wipeout started to die and become generic.

  • you havent a clue what your talking about, have you actually played any since 2097?, some how i doubt it or you wouldnt have such a bullcrap opinion. now go play wipeoutHD fury and tell me its not as good

  • I agree with you.

I love all the games in the series, but the first two are by far the best.

This is my opinion (and is thus the only correct one as far as I'm concerned!):

    1. WipEout 2097

    2. WipEout

    3. WipEout Fusion

    4. Wip3out

    5. WipEout Pure

    6. WipEout Pulse

I've never played WipEout HD because (as far as I know) it's just available as a download on PSN, and on top of that only available for PS3 owners, so the rest of us can't get hold of it at all.

  • PS.

For obvious reasons I naturally don't count WipEout 64.

  • I can't disagree enough. The series has been progressing at a nice pace since 2097. Yes, there were some additions that didn't add much to the series (Wipeout 64), but when the core gameplay is so fun you can't complain much. Wipeout is one of the few racing series to have such a long history yet still remain fresh. Check out the Wipeout HD Fury expansion pack, which adds game changing modes to further vary the gameplay of the series. Here's hoping for a new full retail release.

  • very good

  • u owned them man

  • Haven't played this in YEEEARS D:

  • that team you are using has nuff speed on them when theyve been upgraded fully i didnt know until i finished all the leagues struggling with feisar but i did it though some how lol

  • Is this game as good as Wipeout 3?

I'd like to get it at some point...

Also, is the music as good?

  • it's better. Music is good, not as awesome as wipe3, but the tracks, speed, game is better imo

  • Sounds awesome, thanx!

  • Heh ive still got fusion i give it a blast now and again on my ps2 I jsut love the wipeout series man and the music they put in it was the best

  • wow, when i first got WipeOut Pure (PSP), i thought it was the only wipeout there was, but then i saw WipeOut Pulse and WipeOut HD, then i thought, wow, i wipeout just keeps coming, but then i saw fusion, so i had to look up on wikipedia and there are 9 WipeOuts, i'm a bit slow, but wow.

  • !!BEST WIPEOUT EVER!!

  • is this game any easier than the wipeouts on ps1?? I've played the first one and wipeout 3, and the controls are difficult for me; every time I hit a wall I stop.

  • Fusion... oh man it's so cool ! Even better than Wipeout 64 ;D

    I adore this game ;*** Fusion, come, give a hug ! ;***

  • Why is Fusion so underrated compared to all the other Wipeout games in the series??? I just bought it and it is on par with every other Wipeout game I have played (even better than XL because of PS's technical advancements.)

The game is amazing playing it for the first time.

  • Damn... I want this game...

  • PAL games run slower than NTSC games? I thought that only the TV signal was different (the game runs at the same speed, but the output framerate is lower).

I learn something new every day.

  • It depends on the game. Since the refresh rate for old PAL TVs is 50hz as opposed to NTSC's 60hz, the game can be either made to run at a slower speed to avoid frame skipping, or keep the original running speed and introduce some frameskip. Nowadays, all new PAL TVs support 60hz.

  • Ah.

  • Just got this one today. I expect to be all over the place, but pratice I will.

  • It gets good once you get into it, trust me. but its advisable to upgrade your shields as quick as possible, as the AI can be quite aggressive and there is a lot of push-and-shove...

  • wow , u a great player !!

  • is not the game that is fast u retard is juss the player that seems to be flash on steroids lol

  • no it is the game that is fast cus u can tell by the clock in the bottom left hand corner of the screen xD

  • this wipeout is really fasssst 0_0

  • If you mean no offence then put it in a non offending way. I'm not the biggest pro ever, but there's a lot worse.

  • haha i just bought this game for 3 bucks!

    great deal*

    gravity bomb best weapon!

  • nup. love the missile - awesome launch sound...

  • wow thats fast.

but as i remember ther was too much of a focus on weaponary in this wipeout.

hd on ps3 is absolutely awesome tho and the type of game i got the ps3 for

  • I actually managed to skip this one somehow!Every self respecting wipeout fan should get wipeout HD though. It's brilliant.

  • I have it, and it is indeed awesome.

  • ditto

  • F-zero maybe better than fusion but it isn't better than the Wipeout series.

  • i kinda agree on that one but there both really good games except one has weapons which would be this one

  • i always thought that f-zero came out after the wipe out games, because it was released on the n64 =s

  • F-Zero X was on the N64; the original F-Zero was a SNES launch title in 1990 - five years before WipEout.

Even if that wasn't the case, what difference does it make that ANY F-Zero games were released for the N64? Both the N64 and the PlayStation were part of the same console generation.

(Of course, WipEout was a PlayStation launch title, and the N64 was released after the PlayStation, but you probably didn't know that.)

  • BTW, there was also a WipEout for the N64. It was two of the PlayStation WipEouts mashed together or something, IIRC.

  • hmmm i had this game and i cant find it which is making me pisst. And im still thinking right now where i put that sht. Well all i know is that i like that earthquake weapon.Miss this game

  • Try playing this when your stoned well tripy!

  • Howcome the penetrater keeps guiding into the wall... and if it's cause you were using it, why weren't you simply deleting it? This game is so easy with that craft maxed out... I got everything maxed out completely on this game as well as a galaxy champion... hardly any replay value cause it's so easy though lol...

  • It's gives you a boost, but it's more of a gamble... When it works best it's like at 1:30.

I've also upgraded every ship including secondary ones. When I do play, it's mostly just zone mode.

  • yeah thank god it came out with zone mode... you know their's a wipeout hd video out now stating that zone mode started with Pure... WRONG!!!! haha...

  • u r 1 hot motha fuckah at this game

  • W8, wtf? How did you fire a 'quake' backwards?!

  • Look back with L1 and fire.

  • THIS IS MADNESS

    So fucking fast.

  • I have this game on ps2 and it's still SWEET! You have to have fats reactions + i hpe they make a newer version for the nxt gen consoles!

  • I loved this game so much...does anyone know where to get the soundtrack? I remember trying to look up the artists when I still had this game and I came up with nothing.

  • search for the soundtrack at pirate bay you'll find it

  • God DAMMIT I wish my disc for this game still worked!

  • woooooooooooa...Iwant this game

  • Damn I bought four copies of this game and played em to death. Luv it, luv the wipeout series, really looking forward to wipeout hd.

  • You ain't the only one who loves the WipEout series!! (even though I've only played Wo3, 64 and Fusion (the latter two I own (64 being for a N64 emulator)))

  • oh damn! i need to go buy this now, looks awesome.

  • Can I find this at gamestop?

  • I bought my copy at gamestop for $6 on my first attempt. It's a very bad game though, aside from the music. I still stick with Wipeout 3

  • It's not very bad, it's very good.

  • 50hz? yikes

that's not even a racing game anymore

  • phucking amazing gameee!! lmao is there any way of gettin hold of this game for PC do ya recon???

    message me

    Lindley

  • wow. if i didn't know any better, i'd mistake this for F-zero GX! But, Wipeout is obviously much better in game design.

  • interesting nyika - :P

  • How can anyone say the game's sped up? They obviously have never played this game, and most of all look at the timing... the time goes by normally. Thanks for the tips anyway dude.

  • Well done man. I'd like to post my videos too, but I have no idea of how to record my gameplay. Could you help me out?

  • Search for 'Dazzle Tutorial' 'Dazzle Help' or 'Dazzle Guide' here on youtube. You will find lots of videos explaining it. It's a really simple to use USB device. Fairly cheap. All you then need is 3 Audio Splitter Cables.

But if you want better quality, then the more expensive TV Cards are your choice.
