I have a Acer Aspire 7741Z-4543 notebook. I was in safe mode when it gave me the black screen of death. I have tried downloading the BIOS from Acer. Can't find the file that you was talking about. I try just about every thing that I can to get my laptop back up. My grandkids need it to do their school project with. I can go into the setup utility. When I turn it on, it go to no further than the logo. Than I get the black screen with the blanking cursor. Please help me.

hi, i have ACER ASPIRE ONE D150... i downloaded the BIOS 1.13 version. i also changed the fd file to zg5ia32.fd... i both copied zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive. i followed all the instructions, but the problem is, the power light doesn't blink. i've tried it like more than 20 times, but nothing happened. i also downloaded other versions of the Aspire one d150, but still the same... am i missing something? please help

This works if it's a software issue due to incompatible video BIOS. It's quite possible that it's either the LCD's ribbon cable or a piece of metal tape right next to the inverter.

Ok, tried what you said. I do notice that the USB is VERY briefly accessed right after the power comes on, but it does that in the other configurations as well. Other than that, the only real difference is that the fan stays on if I have Fn+Esc pressed before plugging in the AC and the power indicator light on the front does not come on. But the power button light is still on and steady. And no further USB access.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for my AOD260-2344. The Fn+Esc keys never make the power light start blinking. I've tried everything I can think of. Also, for the D260, there are 2 .FD files in the DOS directory along with the FLASH.EXE and FLASHIT.EXE so I'm not really sure which to use. But I've tried with and without the (fully charged) battery, holding down Fn+Esc for several seconds before pressing the power button (oh, holding the Power button on this model never let's it start. Any ideas?

Unplug the power cord and take off the battery. Then, insert the USB with the required files.

Next, hold FN + ESC first and then plug in the charger (no battery) and then press the Power button. 3-5 seconds after you press the Power button, release the FN+ESC keys.

Awesome info you saved my netbook. As a note you don't have to flash the usb drive to FAT, FAT32 works as well too.  Get a better camera so others can see what you are doing more clearly. Other that that wonderful vid. Thanks again.

I am intrigued! Given that the netbook in question has no CDrom drive and the nature of the problem is that the device fails to boot! HOW would you have anyone reinstall windows? @greyfoxmce With a pen drive over USB. I did that twice it works nice.

But you don't just copy the entire CD to the pen drive, you have to create a bootable USB pen drive that you can make with properly software that you can find on google : )

@greyfoxmce boot is different from post, you are talking about post i guess, if a computer don't post it wouldn't boot. If you computer post you can install the SO anyway.

I was answer a member, not the movie, i was saying that after you update bios it's common that your operative system can fail, it depends on the changes made on the updated bios.

My laptop is same as in the video.There was no lights except the power light was on. Fan was spinning, screen was black. Minor thing I like to mention is, select "Netbook" for Product Family, not "Notebook", and Product Model info is in the label something like "MFG DATE:0808 AOA 150-1813", not in the label "Aspire one series|MODEL NO:ZG5". So select Netbook|Aspire One|AOA150. Anything else just follow the video, it's very detailed and clear. Thanks the author and good luck to everyone.

aparte seria bueno saber si para hacer que el aspire 5230 reinstale la bios desde la memoria usb hay q hacer los mismos pasos con FN + ESC o hay que hacer algo diferente.

@soreEyesgirl I have done this (sorry to say!!) many times. I use an old Memorex 2G traveldrive, and keep it with my computer. The point is . . . I had to just try different jump drives until I found one that talks to the system.

This is only an Acer issue? Because I have a Compaq Mini 110 that's acting the same: black screen. If I'm lucky after 10-15 restarts, it boots into Windows, but it's really random.

hey, i have a black screen too. i gotta take my laptop into a repair shop. I dnt have that flash drive , an the local pc shop are good for fixing laptops anyway. The first time this happened to me, I brought my computer to Best Buy and for $200 they backed up my data and installed a motherboard that I didn't need. I had to waste 10 days without my computer, my time by reinstalling my printers, Microsoft, and my virus software ..This solution worked for me but not the first time. Rename the file FLASHIT to FLASHIT.EXE. Rename 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.FD. Rename them precisely like that, please check that your spelling is correct. Use the USB on the left side
