Uh, folks, at first I thought this was cute too, but you should really check out Sled Dog Watchdog and see another side of this story. Think about it: Dogs chained to the ice and hungry bears?
It is amazing. There is awareness from the dog a little tension. He knows the danger, It shows in his hair but what is amazing is that he is willing to try to be friend.s. It is that trust that amazes me.
Were all the huskies male? Would bear have eaten a bitch? "Play" is a human term, and can't really know what the motivation was with these animals. We know that kitten "play" is practice for actual stalking/killing. Maybe the bear was hoping the dogs would share food! I wonder if the dogs smelled of meat?
Brown kept saying "this happened in NATURE" and yet the dog was chained. Hardly a "wild" thing. Yet domesticated animals are part of "nature" too, eh, just like the iPhone.
Simple explanation for this! The polar bear had not eaten for 4 months. He was obviously in a state of euphoria from the fast. Possibly had reached a state of enlightenment that few bears have ever reached. Decided that it was time to make peace with all other living creatures, become a vegetarian, and live it's remaining life out in a state of bliss before returning to the Godhead. Very simple to figure out!!!!
There's other differences...for instance we're said to be the only species that is aware of our own mortality...but maybe we don't fully know all about how animals think and feel yet. Who knows for sure?
This is an excerpt from a lecture about the importance of learning to play as a part of our development. As for what sets us aside from animals, it is our ability to have secondary, even sometimes third thoughts going on at once, as opposed to animals who have only primary thoughts, moment by moment.
i'm no expert but i hypothesis that this interaction is possible because the polar bear is a very social and high-intellegent animal and that to social creatures the need for play can be just as valuable to them as the need for food. when you play you re-engergize your being in a way that food doesn't provide.
This is a true event - not "impossible" cause it happened. Also, Polar Bears are carnivorous predators and they DO attack, they attack whales, people, seals, each other and their young. But not ALWAYS. The point is that there is inter-species love and play in the wild. It's not always a 'dog eat dog' world out there. This event has nothing to do with 'people' no matter how far or how close.
Humans ARE God's 'special' creatures but that doesn't make animals value-less. They too are able to love, to feel lonely, to grieve, to enjoy - they ARE emotional creatures just as humans are. Polar bears are capable of loving and embracing others and life. Most people don't know this but birds (specifically parrots, but not exclusively) are also highly emotional beings.
It is a shame how people understand animals less and less today.
We are much more away from them as never. been before They are a part of nature and we are not. I experienced some of similar behaviours in the wild and it didn't surprised me. Who we are, the humans !? What are we made of ?
The more technologically bound you are, the further you get from Nature. Of course as humans are animals it's impossible to be totally separated, but we can still go as far as possible from it mentally if we wished
I think animals get bored when they're out in places like that and they want friends too just like wolves like to be in packs and other animals too, and dogs are so friendly naturally anyway. Beautiful photos and subjects.
They said the bear hadn't eaten for 4 months, so I'm guessing the pics were taken in Spring when bears have finished hibernating. The bear was most likely hungry.
Well, the bear thought I might as well play a little bit with this pathetic canines since I've been working and working and no play. All work and no play makes the bear dumb! lol
If they were fighting, the dog would have been dead in minutes. There are many high-resolution photos of the bear coming back every day to play with the dog.
That is SO awesome. That would be crazy to see a grizzley and wolf act like that in the wild like that guy said on the video... That would be one hell of a team; wolf pack and grizzley bears... haha. Great Video.
This is amazing and there are researchers that are study these type of behaviors. I might be wrong so correct me if I am.
There are signals that provoke inferences in the observer (Ketellar 2008). Dogs are more likely to attack if there tails are pointing up rather than wiggling side by side.
It appears that the polar bear received the signal of the dog. It's like humans, we can detect when somebody is mad and want to fight. It's such an awesome phenomena.
I think this sort of stuff only happens in cold environments. For some reason, the cold makes people more hospitable and friendly, and perhaps animals as well.
Even when Animals Eat each other its an act of Love yet its beyond our comprehension so it sounds insane. It dies to feed another or normally more than 1 maybe a whole pack so in the process more is being created.
I saw these incredible pictures published in National Geographic, maybe 10 years ago. What incredible behavior! We humans have so much to learn from animals...if we only would take the time.
i don't get why is it so surprising. they are mammals not devil or vampires. they are just like us. we eat meat and we like other pretty mammals at the same time.
How sweet... But i got a question... Why does the Husky have a chain on ít's neck? I thought that both animals were wild.. or is it only the bear wich is wild???
Thank you for sharing this. Polar bears are more docile than previously thought according to current research. These magnificent creatures need our support and respect.
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
The religious scripture you are quoting is a myth, as are all the other scriptures in the world. So sad to see you've been duped by a book and its images. By the way, both the Old Testament and New Testament are plagarized materials from older traditions - Zoroastrianism and the motif Mithra. Trying to lose your self in religious belief is like burying your head in the sand. But that is quite fashionable these days!

Does this mean there is no purpose in nature?
We say the purpose of ducks with webbed feet is to survive; its not the purpose, those with webbed feet made it out of the water.
Was the purpose of those without webbed feet to die?
I am studying animal behavior, and this part is odd. ;)
