yah she shouldnt be called an accompanist, they are equals! this is a duet after all. in fact her part is way harder than the cello part (technically anyway)
Stunning performance! I am performing this in Austin next month (the piano part). Both artists here play with exceptional depth. I prefer this to to Emmanuel Ax and Yo Yo Ma, as Ax over breaks some the of the 10ths, and in my opinion looses the texture. There is greater subtlety of line in this interpretation. That you too for your help. As I have smaller hands, and I enjoyed the pianists interpretation, (leaving out a few notes) but not compromising the musical integrity. GORGEOUS
It is very fine... but we shouldn't think of the pianist as merely an accompanist to the cello. She is an equal partner in this phenomenal movement by Rachmaninov.
The pianist is both an accompanist and a partner - always - or should be. Speaking as an accompanist, I thought that so obvious that I saw no need to differentiate.
Désolé pour mon mauvais anglais : Sorry but I do not agree with lyndon1904 : the pianist is not an accompanist but a partner. One should remember that Rachm. wanted to entitle this sonata "sonata for piano and cello", placing the word piano in the first position. This score is horribly difficult for the pianist as well as for the cellist. This interpretation is beautiful...

I know this sonata and played the piano part. these are artists -- they play with LOVE for the music, the expressiveness and texture their instruments can serve for them, and they love interacting with each other as SOLOISTS that work towards a common goal for the music - TOGETHER...taking from and giving to each other, as the music wants from them....they give their personalities fully to the music ......that's the way it should go.
I know this is heinously difficult for the piano part, but I can tell you that you both play this with astonishing, breathtaking beauty. Thank you so much...
Yes, I love this cello sonata so much that I have around 10 different interpretation, Schafran, and Rostropovich and the likes of legendary cellist are on the list, but the one I enjoy most is by a duo from Poland, with Barczyk on cello, and Halska on piano. With this interpretation, you will find how Rach as a great piano composer subtly took the share of what is supposed to be an accompaniment instrument brilliantly shines within a cello sonata piece. Love this opus very very much!
i have many recordings of this piece ( guatier capucon being my favorite) but ive never heard a 2nd movement like this, sucha romantic/tragic performance. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND HE GOT PUSSY THAT NIGHT ( please excuse my language) if i was a groupie i would have thrown my panties at you after hearing that beautiful vibrated high registared passage. i believe rachmoninov is looking down at you and saying to him self "ill see him when he gets here"
Dude, I usually prefer the piano part in this sonata...Rachmaninoff lets the pianist down, but when you came in, I knew why Rachmaninoff included the cello in this sonata! Thank you for the singing tone and that vibrato...Bravo!
Both of your performance and interpretation is absolutely gorgeous, sensitive and breathtaking! Thank you!

This is an exceptionally fine performance - with equal laurels going to the accompanist as to the cellist. Superb.

Also, I wrote EQUAL laurels going to the accompanist as to the cellist. EQUAL - so your comment is wholly superfluous.
