The engines are working twice as powerfull as their factory settings. I have blown one of them on the beginning. Could replace it, and since them I was oriented by ARC team to lower the ffb strenght. I run it at 80%, and it is a lot of power coming out of it still. There are almost 3 years I run it that way, flawlessly. The big improvement for me is not the stronger ffb, but what comes with it: faster and more precise reactions from the g25, like for bumps, sliding, etc etc. Cheers!
About the wheel itself, I can only compare to it as default (before the job) and to a stock g27 I do have as well. I say it is miles ahead of both, but there is a learning curve about setting the wheel. 1st thing I notice on Shaun´s test drive on the modern F1 is a loud vibration noise, that sounds to me like canned (fake) effects turned on, witch is a big NO if you ask me. For the most accurate ffb, your wheel should only receive front suspension messages from the sim.
I have this same mod to my G25, and bought the DIY kit at the time. Was a beat cheaper then now, they raised the price a bit. But well, I also tough I had a good background with soldering, but as soon as I noticed how small scale I was dealing with, I´ve let all the PCB work to be done by a electronic dude. For the level required this is a must if you are not one of them, and the service is cheap. All other work outside the pcb I could by my own quite easily.
the g27 is like a ford f150: massive sales good value great durability its not the best out there but definetley good, and its a ton of fun. whereas the new wheels like the t500 are like new lamborghinis: filled with gadgets somewhat reliable not very practical even more fun. very explensive and not quite as many sold.
IMO its waaaaay too much money and risk for so little profit, this is definitely something not to do. i'm very happy with the original wheel as it is.
Hmmm I had hoped the fans would increase lifespan, I have heard of G25's and possibly G27's having reliabillity issues if ran hard for countless of hours, so to preserve my G25 I have been doing quick stints and letting it cool down to avoid a potential overheat.
Although I guess this isn't a mod for me though, as I am looking for low force feedback like a road car with ABS (Think R34 GT-R) where the wheel is light and easy to handle.
Better KEEP THAT FIRE EXTINGUISHER CLOSE BY Shaun. This is a recipe for disaster, i'd give it a couple of months before that G27 breaks or blows up. That ARC team better have good lawyers coz i think they'll be getting some serious complaints over the next few months. The G27 clearly wasn't designed for this.
seems like you need to be an electrical engineer to even have a chance at this mod and way too expensive (might have well bought a T500 with that money)...and dont you know your suppose to use baking soda on an electrical fire and not a fire extinguisher? =P
9:50-10:00 was hilarious. Shaun was so amazed that his shady workmanship held together. Love it hahaha. Also, keep pressing 2 during the video. Looks like Tom is about to to go ape$*&# on Shauns face with that soldering gun. ROFL
Great vid guys, glad I subscribed to this channel you guys do a great job and have content that's right up my alley.
i love sim racing, but im on a budget... im not going to spend even more money to mod an already expensive accesory. 300 is alot for a normal human being but 900?! its WAY too much for me. and im not abandoning my faithful wheel because a SLIGHTLY better wheel came out on the market either. if i wanted an insane cockpit id get a motion simulator and a custom dash... which would probably be $20,000-ish... im happy with my wheel
The money they ask is insane. I know this is a very special mod and essentially a new wheel, but still, more expensive than the up and coming super special Fanatecs? Twice the price of a T500RS??? Is it that good? I really doubt that...
@Makinen11 you have to understand that they sell mostly these things to drivers and car companies, thats why they price it so high. I do agree with you it is insane!!!
This just makes me glad, i love watching the new episodes that comes out, i love sim racing in general, well i'm not so much into it but i just love watching it, and i really love this show.
Hmm i dont think ill be doing this any time soon. Rather buy a new wheel since i havent even tried the Fanatech wheels yet. As i understand it, it will work with my g27 paddles so.
WTF? I have never found FF strength lacking on the G27. Unless you've got perfect FF (which no sim is even close to having.) you're better off not having FF which is too strong anyway.
hey, since the g27 wheel is a little weak with gt5 (at least in my case), how strong would the modded wheel be, would it reach normal levels (such as the one found in dirt 2 or f1 2010 with the unmodded wheel)?
come on guys! the g27 is still the best wheel out there since the thrust master don'T have any H shifter and the new fanatec is still not ou t yet! ;)
and by the way, I have made a mod hand brake on the g27 and it is VERY small piece to work with so I understant your matter when you have done your mod.
Please people, don't do anything stupid unless you really know what you are doing lol
BTW That piece of plastic (14:10) will never resist that force. I have the G27 since the first day almost and 2 weeks ago i disassembled it and saw that piece pretty worn.
And having that double power in the same engines is not that good too. If those are older than mine forget it.
Nice review guys, always enjoy watching your show. However, only a person who knows how to carry out the mod safely should go for it. The price for getting it done by ARC Team is just crazy. One would be better off getting the T500 RS. I don't have a wheel yet, looking forward to getting the G27... anyone know of good deals anywhere please? ;)
@shane329 Hi mate, I'm Irish but living in Saudi Arabia. The only deal I found them here for was SR1000, which is 190 Euros, but that was about a year ago... doubt there's any left in stock.
It's a bit like buying a 20 y.o. very reliable Porsche, bolting a huge DIY turbo on it to make it twice as powerful, while HOPING it stays reliable. And in the process spending enough money on it all to buy a brand new one.
Haven't watched yet still waiting for 1080p to cache. I'm gonna go with it's a bit pricey and you'll probably recommend that you let them mod your g27 because I remember you guys saying how much trouble you were having building it yourselves.
I know from computer building that a bigger fan at a lower RPM would produce less noise, So could you change the fan size from what look like 40mm fans to like a 80mm or 100mm to make less noise or would the fans hit something inside the Wheel.

Expensive

DIY extreme difficulty

possibility of reduced lifespan
