George Orwell was a fraud. He was an MI5 agent deputised to write up the planned coming tyranny but to throw people off the scent by saying that it would come from the right and not the liberals and the left from where it is now coming. He hid the fact that the Rothschild family (current estimated fortune 37 trillion) were to lead the NWO by making the hero of the book Jewish. We were all taken in and now we face international tyranny in a sleepwalking state.
it is indeed true that there isa differance between communism and socialist goverments you could say that he was nether 'left' nor 'right' beastatlay has made a good point as americas interpritation about somewhat differant to ours in europe
The Complete Patriot's Guide to Oligarchical Collectivism: its Theory and Practice states there are four types of people in the world according to mentality; idiots, zealots, elitists and patriots.
I think each of you is rather missing the point in trying to catagorise him in terms of left/right conservative/liberal.
If you read his collection of essays, you will see that he gets increasingly uneasy with all forms of political orthodoxy- something that really began occurring after his experiences in the Spanish Civil War.
He inreasingly argues for the importance of telling the simple truth about things, rather than trying to fit facts in with political leanings.
Is Orwell conservative or liberal? His works seem to oppose the USSR and socialism. However, Wikipedia and other sites claim him to be left winged. Someone explain this man to me?
He opposed totalitarianism in all forms, and was very much against Stalinism. He was, however, a diehard socialist. Very big difference. The two are not mutually exclusive. America has very odd views regarding this kind of thing. Britain was basically a democratic socialist state from 1945 to the late 70s, with nationalised health care, transport and so on, yet militarily and politically was a main enemy of the USSR.
In the US any sympathies with the USSR, no matter how small, are considered radically left wing, so in that sense he's a right wing conservative (but not at all in actuality).
In 1984 there is "the party." In the U.S. "the party has been cut into left and right; but the controllers of both parties are the same people. The lower Dems and Reps think they are different. But the high-ups (controllers) are on the same side. They're against YOU (and me and everyone you know for that matter).
Orwell probably never thought of himself as "left wing." If you think about it long enough "left wing" doesn't mean anything. Orwell would've known that.
No, bobby, he did not think there was no difference between the left and right, especially in the context of Europe in the 1930's and 40's. But after his experience in the Spanish civil war he detested Stalin's communists and anyone who lied because the 'party line' demanded it. But his thinking was socialistic and he would have preferred FDR's Democrats more to his taste than the Republicans.
Today the division between lefts and rights does not exist anymore. This is the basic philosophy of Orwell. You can see a left wing party acting like a conservative and the opposite. He was oposed in fascism in all it's forms. Red fascism (communism), nationalism, far left, anarchism. He supported a real democracy free of political stereotypes and labels. Sometimes he sounds like a conservative, sometimes very liberal... he just opposed totalitarianism
Orwell called himself a democratic socialist. He opposed totalitarianism in all its forms but was most definitely on the left of the political spectrum. He did not think, as you suggest, that there was no difference between left and right.
If he had written just those two essays, "Shooting an elephant" & "A hanging" he would still be one of greatest writers England produced in the last century. How ironic that his father was basically a drug dealer (albeit a civil servant for the Empire) growing opium in India for the Chinese market. Makes you think doesn't it?
I moved onto a boat last week and the electric failed after one night. So I lit a candle and rooted round for a book to read. I came across Orwell and started with Burmese Days, then A Clergyman's Daughter and I'm now halfway through 1984 (again). I'll finish with Animal Farm because I read that most recently.
Today many of us are Winston Smiths in the face of Big Brother and long may that continue. The day they lock me up for posting my thoughts...
Many many heartfelt thanks for the person who uploaded this and to the sycophant, Iwould say that my favourite books are dwon adn out in pariss and Lundun, Coming up for ayre and Nineteen 80-Fo.
I profoundly admire this man.Orwell was a brilliant technical writer-read "Politics and the English Language."I admire his socialism and his powerful opposition to Stalinism and the Bolsheviks.Very few people live their lives according to their principles.Orwell seems to have been able to do that.RIP Eric!
...you can't be a very big fan if you spell great wrong, think he's done one book, think it's called 1.984 and only class him as very good, he was a man of the world, one of the most important writers of the 20th century.
You're getting on someone because of their spelling, and you can't even name two books Orwell wrote?? Just because you're ignorant doesn't make Orwell less of a writer. Orwell is one of the greatest.
lol i said that orwell IS a great writer and it wasnt a competition to name as many books as i could and it was because he wasn't literate in spelling, much like you're not literate in reading abilities
yes, spelling counts on how good of a fan you are. remember perfection is the path to god .Imperfection
is degenerate behaviour and must be dealt with bythe authorities .we are being watched .If they don't like what you read or look at and whatthey think you think theywill destroy you!
lol so same goes for you then, you can't have been reading his books that well if you think you're "good of a fan", hope you know what a prole is though but if the hope lies in you we're all doomed
He's in practice my ideal. A life in pictures is a much better video than this though.

Thank you for sharing so many amazing videos on George Orwell. I think that Orwell learned a lot from his mother-a beautiful, energetic woman. In
Eton, he knew what was class and that was part of the reason he became a liberal.
