Too many hours spent as a child checking to see if de-lovely was a real word. Just the other day I hear this in a store and said "de-lovely isn't a word" without even realizing it.
I remember when the Chrysler Corp. was in its heyday, and the factories in Detroit were humming, the De-lovely music was adapted by DeSoto for its advertising jingle.
on friday and saturday, we did Anything Goes. We also noticed that Hope could say: "you've won my heart, and I've lost the game, it's de-lightful, it's de-licious, it's de-lovely!"
Woah. Is youtube stalking me? I came over to look up this song and it was there waiting for me in my suggestions! I'm sure I never looked up any Cole Porter stuff before. 0_o
@DeathPonies no its just a different style. this one is Jazz you can tell by the swoops, the jumps and how often a note gets sharped. A lot of people who sing pop can sound like this they just choose not to.
@happygirl4527 Like who? Is it all the artists who use auto tune and lip sync live performances? Not one "pop" star today in the American Music Industry has shown any real vocal skill. Even if they did, they sure don't show it by sounding horrendous live and not actually singing in tune even in studio :|
@bhs1212 Pop stars can do anything they want to they choose not to. People back then took vocal classes to sharpen their skills.Today most people who are popular singers don't take classes they just do their thing. There are some pop singers out there who can sing absolutly amazing on a broadway play but SUCK live at a concert.Just like a choir.A choir can sound the most amazing when singing a latin piece but can sound COMPLETELY different when singing a pop song, jazz, or even a christmas song.
@happygirl4527 totally right. And there's too many pop stars who never had any classical or jazz training, so they limit themselves intentionally without any knowledge of the history of music, and the different styles that exist. Madonna made the best transition when she did Sondheim in Dick Tracy and Andrew Lloyd-Weber in Evita.
@DeathPonies but then again he's bing crosby....and today brings us other great singers, like andrea bocelli and pavarotti so cant reely say for all modern singers
2:40 - 2:55?! Where did that come from?? Honestly, what a musical genius.

Cole Porter was a true musical master. His music is timeless.

I wonder if the people of the 30s thought this was cutesy fluff too.
It has a nice opening, but if I want music from then I go for Woody Guthrie. None of his songs are about drunken rich people.

@Influx27 Hey, man, what would the music and film industry be without drunken rich people? Show some respect.

Ahhh, I just had callbacks for this musical today. :)
We had to sing this song, up to the second "It's delightful, it's delicious, it's de-lovely!"
I was the only boy who hit the last note and was able to be heard. :D
Pretty confident I got the role of Evelyn. At least I get a solo (Gypsy in Me).
Really wanted Billy, mostly just to sing this song and You're the Top. :)
