Alex is one Hell of a guy! I lived in SD from 93 to 99 & would check things out downtown & at Seaport Village quite often, running into Alex on several occasions. He's a great guy to chat with & he is very intelligent, don't let him fool you, lol. I think he actually likes being homeless personally? It's great to see he's still around. Thanks for sharing this video. You do realize Alex is his street name right?
i know this may seem trite, but being homeless in San Diego is not anywhere near as bad as being homeless in let's say, New York.
if i were homeless i would want it to be in a place like that where the weather is usually (always) mild.
there are plenty of people in America who make it their mission to help the homeless remain on, or get off the streets. but most choose to stay on the streets because it is an easier lifestyle than the rat race. oftentimes it can be just as satisfying for many.
Being homeless is unpleasant no matter where you are, I can't believe that American's are so blaze about it. If there were people sleeping in tents on our streets I don't think we would be trying to justify it.
but he looks healthy and serene. he has been at it for 20 years, that leads me to believe it is by choice. the American system is dog eat dog, not everybody wants to play that game. do you think he would be happier working at Wal Mart and handing over more than half his paycheck for a tiny 1 bedroom apartment? and that would be if he moved about 15 miles inland.
your video is good and your hearts in the right place, but it's called learned helplessness, that is what most homeless people develop.
You can try to justify your lack of a social conscience all you like but the majority of homeless have either physical or mental illness or a drug addiction, this is a social issue - a lack of public housing & health. I hope you sleep well at night in your bed.
San Diego is one of the priciest zip codes in the US.
there are a lot easier places to get on your feet than there, but there are no a lot of places that are easier to live on the streets for as long as he has.
Why is it we forget our camera when we need it the most? There were a lot of homeless in LA too, if I had a $1 for everyone who asked me for a $1 I could have upgraded my hotel!
How sad, all the tents, right on the side-walk. Would it be that hard, to open up a shitty little camp-ground, with porti-potties? Hiring camp-ground supervisors would create jobs, for low income individuals
I've never had the pleasure of being out west. You did a great job, Sammi. Homeless folks have a special place in my heart; we have many, many of them in DC.....
I'm in geelong where it has been reported in the papers that we have around 500 living on the streets or in cars.
Our homeless just dont stand out they sleep under bridges or parks.
I know they are there i have seen one bloke sitting outside a bank across the road from my kids school rugged up in thick clothing at 8.30 in the morning.
I do not see people sleeping in tents in Australia, you need to start petitioning your council if there are that many homeless in your small community.
These videos are truly my favorites, I have a few on my old channel "sheilashatersmates " from Cambodia that are similar. My channel change is the new format, I like it - do you?
This video brought back to me, how one of the by products of this system is sometimes good smart humans.
Great vid Sammi. To watch an Aussie such as yer good self talk openly with that homeless man, and the tents set up, was a blowout, because it is a world away from what we see here in honesty.
I was truly shocked, I couldn't leave here without focusing on this issue. My social conscience is the only thing I have that I think has true value and without it I am nothing.
featured. this has more insight than all the videos about NWO combined. even americans simple don't realize how big the problem is, i didn't- i've know about the homeless issue for decades, but it's getting worse, tents on the sidewalks at night? ffs and we allow it? peace
Thank you for the feature, I really was shocked to see so many people sleeping on the streets here, this is something we never see at home. They say in America anything is possible, I hope that is true.

I was surprised to see tents on sidewalks, I see tents in visible places. Homelessness is a very complicated issue. Great video.

necessary - NO WAY - what is necessary is for the US to start recognizing that every human being has equal value.

I cant even explain how bad the situation is here I think people have just become complacent.

Just wondering how does this camping on the street in tents go down with the law?
australianews 2 years ago
They pack them up every morning and as long as they stay away from the main tourist area's the police seem to leave them alone.

I couldn't figure out why they slept by the train tracks - maybe the police don't give them a hard time there.

What's happened to yer channel?
Sammi, thiis was really interesting to watch, which i think had alot to do with your approach when interviewing the subject.
From an Aussie who i am sure like many others, i loved this, and would like to see you pull off some more of this in your face doco type style.
