Hmm... My friend got one of these used for $350 at GC. At first we were both wowed by it, but now he's considering selling it...
In my opinion, the guitar is (if this is possible) TOO perfect. It's not rough enough. Godly sound though. I think it's just my weirdness. I was surprised to not like it, especially since I LOVE P-90s.
Just snagged a used one at my local guitar shop. Have only played a few hours, but will be putting in time on this one. BTW, great bends, and good technique..
THANKS! GREAT PLAYING! The other demos show a little of the singing sound, between a crunchy humbucker and a tinny strat-type single coil. I've loved my bro's 69 SG /w soap bars....I have my eyes on the SE semi-hollow soap bar model....The soap bar is the most overlooked pickup, but is has such great tone from smooth to singing to gritty. The Koreans really know how to make a good guitar, expecially when trained by PRS. I have a Korean Squire Precision Bass that feels better than all others.
Thanks for putting this video up! I bought this model today before discovering this video. I am a beginner and went to a grand opening of a new music store in town with Yamaha Pacifica for a Fender Strat Bullet/Affinity in mind. Lo and behold, there were 2 PRS Soapbox 2's on sale: Regular price $413 USD marked down to $236. I picked up a cherry one. Even with knowing just a few chords, the feel, the sound of this instrument, I knew I made the right choice & your video confirms it! Guitar 4 life
I like how you documented exactly what you are playing through and which settings you change throughout the video. Thats extremely helpful and something that most people, unfortunately, do not do.
Nice video.
I am really considering the soapbar model. Its between this and an Epi '56 Goldtop with the P90's. What can you tell me ?
Thanks! There is a real decision to be made as far as feel between the two. A good Epi/Les Paul always adds a sense of 'heft' to the playing experience that is beyond the Soapbar. Translate as: sustain. punch, smoothness. My gripe with Gibson/Epi is that the quality control is a rollercoaster. PRS is consistant. So if you find a 'magic' Epi, you will know immediately if that's your beast. My personal choice in that comparison was the PRS.
Personally I play classic nylon stringed. I have owned a Strat and LP but overally I wasn't pleased. They are like French Fries... Good for everyone. I am more of a telecaster player these days and I was planning to build my first partscaster but then started looking at flat top gibsons (junior and double cut) and eventually the PRS.
Checked out the custom but I found its pickups to be rather muddy considering their low output. Great ergonomy though that's why I am considering the soapbar.
I side by side compared this to a LP Special. This won. The price is a bonus. I have played LP Jr's I have liked, but the consistancy is not what it has been. There is going to be a drastic difference between this and a Tele. Tele's have a 'springier' character. I am always looking at Tele's...was tempted by an ASAT when I was buying this.
I took my time before I bought this. (Almost too late...they don't make this exact model anymore.) So I was sold on the quality before I bought it. It is a truly 'solid' guitar and mimics the size and feel of my Standard 22 with a totally different sound pallete. So I am happy.
dp the pickups hum a lot? was thinking of getting one. cant resist the temptation.. :P

It sounds good but you don't seem to enjoy playing... Is it so boring or is it to get a David Gimour face ?

Are these the ones with the THICK bodies? Mid 80's? They are massive sounding...but then again, it's one hell of a huge slab of wood!

Fantastic playing and gorgeous sounds. This singlehandedly opened me to P-90s where I didn't really consider them before.

I have this guitar too, with the maple top. For some reason it seems to have an affinity for David Gilmour as well.

I love the cartoon comments :-)
I've just bought a Soapbar SE Singlecut. I'll have to get working on a video response. Did you knock up the backing track/riffy thing yourself?

Thanks. The background is a loop I recorded into a Line 6 Delay. Do the video...
