@sparch3 it's the cathedral....and by type do you mean make? I'm not sure on that....normally a church's website will say but i couldn't find it...i go to the cathedral all the time, and there'll probably be a video of this choir with me in it before too long
Disagree with 'aricmm' claiming organ-playing is boring. This piece is choral; the organ is supposed to be simple and supportive, and this performance achieves that well.
If the choir is looking to improve something, I would suggest checking that the treble line pays close attention to its tuning, and to eliminating a slight tendency to vibrato at points.
Thank you for providing this exquisite anthem. At our church we are trying to restore some of our heritage of sacred music; this is not easy. Our attention spans and ability to meditate are compromised.... Try working on something like this with your "contemporary" church choir. The postmodern chuch does have room for this music; but it takes even the choir members giving their permission. The organist is very attentive to the director and to the music; he is a true musician.
This exquisite piece of music seems always new. A very fine performance! Herbert Howells was truly a magnanimous spirit and a composer who left us with much beauty. What a joy to hear this.
I know they are trying to sound English (especially the men...excellent diction!) but in truth English choirs do not pronounce "and" as "awnd" or "have as "hawve."
@sparch3 also, my apologies for being vague, st. luke and st. paul in charleston South Carolina
