Snakes' skull bones are only loosely attached to eachother and when devouring the meal, he actually spreads the mouth so widely open, that only strings of muscle holds the jaws together. After feeding, he needs to re-organize the jawbones correctly.

Even if he did kill the rabbit first or bought it frozen or something [so he wouldn't be feeding it a live animal], either way the rabbit would be killed. Dogs or cats make much better pets than snakes, and they're a lot less likely to kill their owners. Dogs will only attack if mistreated or trained too, but snakes attack because they're wild animals being put in a glass tank

Most domestic animals can live fine for themselves in the wild life as long as they have not been living "domestically" all their life.
