  • They were all my Brothers.

  • It has more to do with Boystown where the phrase comes from.

  • Does anyone know if this song has any connection to the US's involvement in Vietnam?

  • This is one of my favorite vids even though it's in 93 because I can see the harmonica-playing parts.

  • Genius....saw them live a few times in the 80's with my dad..and grew up listening to them thanks to dad....cheers

  • Beautiful song.

  • I love this words to this song. WHY? Cause I have a big brother that the family thinks he's heavy. I'm his baby sister and he is not heavy to me. Thanks for posting this song and PEACE ALL.

  • Clarke was the real star of the Hollies, not Graham Nash.

  • @echosyst

    well said!

  • This is for you Charlie - my darling brother - 9 years ago left us - we're still in pain you were still so young!!!!! Love you Charlie Attard - and hug you - your sis xxxx

  • I know Allan had an amazing voice back then, but to hear him in 1993 where his voice is as spectacular as ever, just shows what a talented singer he is! and a great band, not forgot you lads ;) x

  • @HilaryMG The vocals are from a 1980's performance. Allan is lip synching his vocal here. His voice was already in decline by this point

  • @garettjeff Really? got to admit he does it very well. But they are a great band, and hey, I could sing..notice COULD lol.. Its nothing like it used to be..come to that, not just the voice thats fading ;) oh dear woe is me lol....

  • I didn't know that snooker player John Virgo sang in The Hollies! :D

  • Great song and performance

  • awesome! thanks for sharing this!

  • My daughter danced with her disabled brother at her wedding to this song. It was such a beautiful moment. Thanks for writing this song. It means so much to us.

  • dude looks pretty hot still. and still got it goin on. I think he should take me out sometime lol... would be koool...the words of this song... well the world needs more of this attitude.

  • Allan is just beautiful all the way around - he is even beautiful now having seen him @ the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards when he gave that wonderful speech and even sang some (at the age of 68) I am in awe of him. I hope the Hollies come to the US on 2012 50th anniversary tour... Hollies Forever!

  • warum antwortet mir niemand? Ist das Allan Clarke?

  • @67elefant Yes, that's Allan

  • Finally inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, just where they belong!!

  • 67elefant

    is this allan?

  • Guess I didn`t push any thumbs by your question anyway ;-)

  • Please don't flame me, but was that the original man, who sang the song? thanks!

  • @1hotdilf Yes it was, and I`m sorry about the thumbs up...just pushed the wrong button there

  • @1hotdilf

The Hollies recorded it in 1969. Neil Diamond recorded it in 1970, so The Hollies were first to sing it. Neil Diamond released it first as a single, but The Hollies had the bigger hit with it.

  • @Aibajunno Neil diamonds wrote, hollies sang it first, then neil diamonds. in reality its neil's song,

  • @Aibajunno

I read it was two other guys, who actually wrote that song.

  • Linda!!! Saudades...

  • madonna would sing this very well......

  • Realmente uma grande mensagem q é dificil de se ver nas chamadas "músicas" de hj. O amigo é um irmão e não é pesado.

  • Oj vad jag älskar denna låt. I Love This Beautiful Song....

  • Come back Allan, it'll just take a couple weeks to get in shape.

  • where can i get this DVD?

  • The best song ever about BoysTown a house for troubled boys. Mr. He Ain't Heavy He's my Brother.

  • My brother ain't, heavy, he's a fat git but I love hin to bits. Allotments aside. He's my brother. Forever. XX

  • Man - the technology we have now is just incredible, isn't it? This is EXCELLENT. They were - and apparently still are - an awesome band, and today's technology lets us hear every single nuance and emotion...

  • Cudo

  • Fantastisch jeugdsentiment. Vergelijk dat eens met de groep die nu als The Hollies optreedt!

  • great song my song for my brother JPB HES A GREAT BROTHER TO HAVE LUV U LOADS J FROM SISTER DONNA XXXXXXXXX

  • Great live version - although I still prefer the less 'polished' original version. Allan's voice still holding up well.

  • There should be a movie about two young guys hitch hiking all over the place

...following a youth choir on their summer

tour...with this as the theme song. WAIT..

thats the high point of my life..not a movie!

    TO THE DECATUR FIRST CHRISTIAN

YOUTH CHOIR OF 1974-75 AND MY BROTHER , KEITH. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE GOOD TIMES...THE LOVE!!!

  • Hollies rule LIVE!!!!

  • allan still good lookin and soundin

  • exelente tema

  • 0:25...Love that long look....Help!!

  • Every time I hear this song it reminds me of Johnny Rivers on Vocals, though its not...

  • Sublime!!! Excelente!!! Maravilloso!!! Muchas gracias por subir este video, The Hollies por siempre y para siempre!!!

  • This is a great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Allan Clarke's wonderful!!!!!!!!

  • the song is the best and looking back to the "62 video, allan is as hot now as he was then. I remember slow dancing to this in the 70's. It's got to be the best song ever written.

  • What is the name of the DVD? Is it available on CD ?

  • Awesome !!

    Very nostalgic :)

  • This is anawesome version of this song the sound s fantastic.

  • I meant to say awesome.

  • This is the only version.

  • Thanks, this is awesome.

  • Amazing performance.....Amazing song....

  • This song is absolutely amazing! Although I've always been into the 60s music, somehow (don't ask me how or why) I missed this song and discovered it just by a mere accident four months ago. An incredible masterpiece that has found a special place in my heart. Thanks for posting it.

  • simple heartfelt songs that werent overproduced. A special place in my heart for this song and to that kind soul who touched my life forever but left this world tragically, a place that can never be filled. Blessings all...

  • I lost my brother also. Why do I return to this song when I know it will make me cry.

  • Allan's voice sounds better than ever on this version. Thanks for posting

  • Great song! Thanks for the upload....likewise for sharing, Nancy.

  • Absolutely AWESOME!!!

Allan still has a great voice, after all these years, was lucky enough to have met him in the 60's

  • Beautiful! Wonderful! Perfect! Unsurpassed! this is ALLAN CLARKE

  • Very nice video... and outSTANDing sound! Thanks for posting...... kinda takes me back..

  • GREAT VÍDEO LYNN

    Tks for post!

  • Come back Allan.

  • Nagyon jó ! Very good ! Thanks !

  • hi there!! where can i found the original music video of this song.

  • No" Hollies" without my Allan ... thats all there is to it.. Allan was the biggest part of the"Hollies' .. love you Allan .xxx .....Lyndloo...

  • I fully agree with you.

  • Depending on date of recording, Tony Hicks, born December 16, 1945, is likely 47 in this video. Allan Clarke, born April 5, 1942, is likely 51.

  • I saw Tony Hicks in 2007. He still looks like a slightly naughty schoolboy!

  • Bobby Elliot drummer born December 1941

  • Brilliant performance. The only thing wrong with this superb song is that it doesn't give mr hicks a chance to shine with his extremely distinctive and tasteful guitar playing. It was generally the earlier more rock n roll stuff where his playing was the most noticeable, on songs like Stay, Lucille, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Little Lover, etc etc I grew up in the 80s learning the guitar to that guy's playing. A daunting task.

  • "Immortalized by the Osmonds"???

    Gimmeee a break!!!

Nothing they have done or every will do can possibly compare to the Hollies!!!

    Especially Allan's amazing voice......

    xxxx

    Barbara

  • totally agree...

  • I had never seen this one!! Oh my God!! the older Allan got, the better he looks!! And Tony, I agree, he looks like he doesn't age...thank you so much for making my day!!!

  • Posted elsewhere 'Recorded by the Hollies immortalized by the Osmonds' biggest laugh I have had for ages. This song is exceptional when performed by the Hollies and OK when anyone else does it

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else think the guitar player on the right looks a lot like Tony Hicks? But I know it can't be, unless Tony was frozen in time and hasn't aged. Spooky.

  • He IS Tony Hicks. I know it's incredible but I've got the DVD and he is in the credits as one of the guitarists. I don't know how he does it but it's HIM.

  • Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. He must have found the fountain of youth.

  • Funny comment johnnyaxe!

Tony Hicks always looks like a younger version of Tony Hicks!!

  • Feel that charisma...What a guy!!!!

Allan can still make my heart pound with his awesome singing and his beautiful face!!!!!

  • IA, Allan looks so ruggedly handsome in this footage.

  • @Poopaloo55, well spoken, charisma, his smile and elegant looking. I am not gay but this man is impressive! His smile at songs like "Listen to me" is also great. :)

  • @whity72 Thank you. It is a mark of strength, when a straight man openly appreciates the appeal of another guy.

  • Ooooh how I wish I'd met him before he retired, *swoon*

  • The ALLAN CLARKE GREAT!!!!

  • Clarke's vocals make this song, the lyric of which is based on the slogan for Boys' Town.

  • Allan is oustanding - the best!!

  • This look ... ah! that look of Allan!

Esse olhar... ah!!! esse olhar do Allan!!!

  • Allan seems delighted with the public and as always beautiful, owner of an incredible charm. And the voice? beautiful and powerful as ever. Thank you Allan for all his work, for this brilliant move as the music, you are forever

  • Allan was still in top fettle in 1999. He had a very strong voice but his second and sudden departure was to shock everyone.

  • Yes I agree. It shocked me, I was totally gutted when it was announced and I did shed a few tears.

  • Yeah Allan's voice was very strong while speaking through the microphone. Still I continue to enjoy seeing Hicks and Elliot perform.

  • I still see ALLAN as I did bak in the 60s'... young and gorgeous and sexy!! loved him then and still love him today !! I will always remember the 60s'..and '"THE HOLLIES "wonderful memories....thank you for the best music of my life ! I will treasure it forever!!..Lyndloo..

  • Beautifully put, dear. Our heroes never age. The memories make us love them more as time goes by. Just experiencing this video makes the passage of time irrelevant, doesn't it?

  • good comment linda.....did you catch tonys sitar solo introduction on the baby live at preston.....fantastic,take a look if you didnt..hes top notch[[[even clapton cant play this instrument]]]...just type in 'the baby live'' sit back and enjoy.....i was there too. love ian.

  • well friday 13th march is concert number 77 for me,still going through the allan ''bereavement'',,sorely missed after 9 years.....theres still enough juice in the band though to fill concert venues worldwide and thank god theyve not become a butlins cabaret act like many of our 60s heroes....looking forward to seeing bob beating those skins like nooone on the planet can,,and the ageless tony with his banjo, guitar, mandolin and sitar .

  • I'm green with envy, Ian my friend! Have a brilliant time...I'll be thinking of you. (+Missing Allan too....just LISTEN to THAT!!) Linda.

  • Allan parece encantado com o público e como sempre lindo , dono de um charme inacreditável .E a voz? linda e potente como sempre. Obrigada Allan por todo seu trabalho, por essa passagem tão brilhante pela música, você é para sempre.

  • apologies to mr howarth of the hollies for my harsh comment,,,you do have a fine voice but im very biased towards allan[the most unique voice on the planet]]...cant wait for the guildhall concert, preston, march 13th for hollies concert number 77 for me..allan clarke badly missed but always in our hearts everyday...

  • That apology was a nice touch, ian. Hollies fans are decent people just like the band. I miss Allan too. The legend endures....

  • this video,,,,,,the reason that allan should come back and quick.....carl did a decent job.......mr howarth your not a hollie.........an underpar allan unable to hit the high notes would still be awesome.[you did it once in a concert i saw when you had a sore throat and coatesie took over the high notes and like everything the hollies did it worked brilliantly.] ...............to a previous reply....allan isnt shy at all....i know him.

  • This is fantastic. Allan has never lost his charisma! Thank you for singing to us so beautifully for all these years, you lovely man!!!

  • ALLAN FOR EVER MY FRIEND

  • Of all the "He Ain't Heavy" clips, this one is my favorite. Allan's showmanship is outstanding.

  • love you ALLAN xx always a pleasure to watch any "Hollie" videos these are my fav group of all time forever !so sweet !!Lyndloo..

  • The guys are still on top form here. Allan looks and sounds groovy and as for our lovely Tony.... the business as usual!

  • I was 12 when this was done! I wish I could hacve been there!

  • and I was 6 ;) I wish I was there too, I wouldn't have cared about Allans ponytail then!

  • Another great clip! Allan still looks incredible.

  • Absolutely Wonderful-Thank you so much-Ian Parker looks so young as does Tony-48 and still as sexy as hell-Like now-Cheers Me Dear

  • Great performance I've never seen before. That ponytail is not a good look though.

  • Thank you for this glimpse of Allan and the Hollies in '93,its the latest performance of the group that I have seen and I am eternally grateful for the privilege.

  • Me too. This is the most recent footage of Allan I have seen. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is amazing when you consider as this was being filmed it was the Hollies fourth different decade of performing. That is a remarkable show of consistency and endurance, and Allan sounded real good here.Hardly like a man who many claim was having trouble with his voice.

  • I think that trouble came later in the 90's but some say Allan was starting to feel the strain at this time. Though there is absolutely no evidence of it here. We see, in this clip, a man of supreme talent and range. And a group, as you so rightly say, performing excellently even after 40 years!!!!!

  • Thats very true. When I saw them in 1999 there were a couple of songs where Allan's voice did strain. It is not surprising considering how long he performed for and how many shows he did! It is very rare for a voice as powerful as his to last for 40 years.

  • We are lucky we had Allan sing for as long as he did. And of course we have him on CD FOREVER. So we can sit back and totally immerse ourselves in the magic that is Allan Clarke!!!!!!!

  • You got it right there. Allan Clarke is the best :)

  • É isso, ALLAN CLARKE é pura magia.

  • Yes, I agree.......PURE MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I must point out that this is actually a mimed performance. This backing track was used from at least 1988 for TV performances. At this time Allan's voice certainly wasn't what it once was but in concert he indeed could still cut it. The major trouble did indeed seem to come in the later 90's. I remember a show in '96 where he was clearly struggling but then in '97 he was in fine form. However when I saw what was to be my last show with him in '99 he was REALLY struggling. It was heartbreaking

  • AW!!!!! That is SO SAD!!!!! Such a finer talent. Thanks for your comment, cheers!

  • I was so sad to read your comment. Allan imagine how he felt.

His voice is so powerful away ...

Too bad ... for us all that we are without the sound of the angel.

Fiquei tão triste ao ler seu comentário. Imagino como Allan se sentia.

Sua voz tão potente se esvaindo...

Que pena...para todos nós que ficamos sem o som do anjo.

  • Yes, I saw that 88 performance recently and realized it was the same track as this one. Disappointing, to say the least. But I still enjoy this footage, they do an excellent job creating a "live" scenario and Allan looks so handsome.

  • I am a male fan of AC and I can say I have an emotional bond to the man from following his career,he made me feel so good so often with his wonderful gift from God.The voice and the fact he is such a decent person have left me eternally grateful to him, thank you Allen for all the wonderful memories. Please someone sit this giant of the music industry down and interview him,the pleasure will be all ours.
