I own Frostie The Dancing Cockatoo and I gave him a good bath one day for a video shoot. What I did was to put about three inches of warm water in the bathtube with a folded towel in the center. On his tail feathers (white) which were stained, I applied shampoo directly and washed them. But, this is the only reason I have ever used shampoo. You don't want to mess with the natural oils or their skin could dry out and then the would probably start picking at it.
@tonyahowe789 Did you ever get the stains off of your cockatoo? I would hesitate to use anything on the stains, as they will preen after a bath and will ingest anything you put on the feathers. With time the stains will go away....just bathe with water. My cockatoos shower with me on a special shower perch!
@tonyahowe789 My Goffin had REALLY bad stains when I got here (She was from a horse stables) and over time the stains completly came out with just water.
Corellas (in the wild) prefer showers over baths, any chance you could give her a perch in the shower?? If that isn't possible, she has to be the happiest corella I've seen in a long time! Good on ya!
The reason she gets out and flaps her wings is that corella's (bare eyed cocatoos) in the wild are used to bathing in rain. Turn a hose upward while she is under it (to simulate rain) while she is on a perch and she will be in heaven!!!
That is so cute. We recently got our first Bare-eye cockatoo and he loves to join my wife in a shower. We have it on youtube if you want to check it out. They are so much fun. God made such a wonderful creature when he made the cockatoo.
