Why cant they make this RSR and move engine closer to middle? Sure Porsche is knows for RR eninges, but it would be sweet to see this model with mid engine.. :)
The 911 IS Porsche. Besides, it's not as if the RR arrangement isn't effective. It would be cool to see, but I think they should stick with the rear arrangement it offers as many advantages as it does drawbacks.
then it wouldnt be quite a 911,the rear engine has a pendulum effect on the cars handling thats why 911s are renowned for their ability to switch directions quickly though its hard to know when youre at the limit because that added weight over the rear wheels also means small warning window but hey thats why we love em
It´s a solid fact that the current 997 GT3 RSR model needs speed and a different weight distribution to be able to compete with the Ferrari 430 GT racers, especially their new ´08 model. Just take a look at the possible and confirmed entries for the FIA GT series next year..Almost everyone in the GT2 are switching to 430´s..Sad but true..I´d really like to see Porsche solve their problems, but development of the Spyders seems to have been taken up all their time.
Hate to burst your bubble, but that fine bit of kit is based in England. You can tell A) by the accients and B) the fact that they mention the wonderful English sunshine right at the beginning before off loading the car!!
Correct it is Tech 9 Motorsport bassed in Leeds drivers were Sean Edwards and Leo Machitski(originaly uploaded this video to youtube but this person seems to have re-uploaded it for no reason).
OH CRAP. Another person rationalizing the stupid TAIL HAPPY attributes.
UNLESS you are in a RUF or AWD, you are basically F'd when it breaks loose.
Twist is enormous. WHOOP..around you go.
The higher end models are amazing. (911SC, 914-8, Ralston and McLaren M8-12) Yeah I know what I'm talking about.

997 RSR at the lower floor, and 997 cup at the top! (whether cup or new cup "S" i cant tell)
You can tell by the airdam design!

997 RSR at the bottom at the truck, and 997 Cup in the upper floor!
You can tell by the front airdam!
Does anyone know if both types of 997 are racing at same circuit?! (I do not mean together)
I was thinking it would be interesting to compare laptimes between the two!
Sure the RSR has a little more power (not more than like 20 bhp), but the aerodynamics and suspension are much more sofisticated.
But now theres also a 997 Cup S with more RSR components!

Thanks. I'm sure everyone was wondering what those two pipes sticking out the back of the RSR was. Who knew it was exhaust pipes! lol.

I have been thinking the same!
I would give so many more opportunities, with the setup and weight balance!
The suspension of 911's has always been a little "wierd" to tame snap oversteer due to engines weight at the back!

Just curious, what do you mean not competitive! Porsche holds more race wins than any other car manufacturer. Well over 28,000

u r right .... sad but true .... porsche has to work with 6 zyl boxer engine ... they cant get more power out of it without turbo or more ccm ...

12hrs sebring porsche took 1st and 2nd in gt2 beating the ferrari and in lmp1 took first as well. Not competitive, learn some history.
klenkart 4 years ago
in the sebring race 2 first places in GT2 are RSR, and the 430 are behind them
that says it all.
