At 9:10 the question is asked (paraphrasing) "which elite faction will push through more support for workers, etc. The answer - neither. People have to get this, that neither side will ACTUALLY represent working people. They say they will, but they don't. They represent ELITES. Wake up people.
As to total absence of real journalism in the U.S., PBS is still doing better than most. Their Frontline series of programs are more direct, sometimes blunt and frank than any other TV channel. Bush's War, Obama's War, New Israel's War, News War - these are all very decent programs. Yes, PBS is funded in part by corporations, but the mere fact that PBS programs are different from mainstream media is already a good sign to me.
Please, do not aim for 24/7 show. I will not watch it. Look at what CNN turned to, it is pitiful, mindless shows and talking heads. Do not do that. On the other hand, one story a day is not enough. I say, three news programs a day, each 10-15 minutes long, plus special reports like they do on Al Jazeera English. This will be more than enough, seriously. Do not aim for "TV model", it is dying along with TV broadcast itself. I do not have TV subscription for more than a year.
Every good journalist and aware citizen knows or at least should know that every media is biased because every writer and every editorial board have their own ideas, which are basically impossible to completely remove from one's work. It is not possible to be 100% subjective. These should be tried to mitigated, but more importantly there simply must be different points of view put forward to the public. The problem with media now is that there is really only one viewpoint put forward.
I'm sorry but in all media, including Paul Jay's Real News there will always be a bias. And in this interview it is blatenetly stated that it is a left-wing agenda.
@SSHHMEEE When did he say TRN was unbiased? What he did state was that he felt there was not a news network which spoke for the working class and that the MSM works in the best interest in the Elite. Regardless of his political bent, this is still a true statement, or do you disagree? He has his right to believe in the power of unions and the social sector. Like you said, all media is biased. If you don't like the TRN's bias you are free not to watch them.
@Marchije Interesting thesis. In a wider sense then, may I venture that RNN is 'unbiased' in the sense that it is publicly funded and has no advertisers/corporate sponsors. because it is funded by many donations with many diverging political biases (for example I'm right of centre and member of UK Conservative Party) it kind of balances out?
Contributors have opinions, but does not attempt to hide them - a kind of unbiased bias, if you get what I mean?
@jontycampbell You're right, RNN certainly has more biting, in depth analyses due to not having large corp interests watching over & censuring them like the MSM. My bias comment was more in ref to SSHHMEE's remark about RNN's "blatant left wing agenda". I was simply pointing out that PJ never made any claim to not have a political bias (if you can call supporting the worker a "left wing" bias; I don't actually subscribe to the left/right paradigm. Supporting the worker just makes sense to me.)
@SSHHMEEE precisely, we don't pretend to be objective, we have a bias for liberty, solidarity, human well-being. if you like neoliberal fascism go watch fox news.
I like some of what he said very much, but Obama is a sociopath, too, because the "President" is not the same man who was on the campaign trail, now whether that's because he's mind-control slave or some other truly unpleasant pathology I don't know, and I don't think it matters. Look at how many civillians Obama is killing, look at his support for the genocidal nation of Israel, a truly socio-pathic state, a more realized "fascism" than the neo-cons, because they are very popular in Israel.

@DubWoodcock you cant move restaurant to africa (and expect same customer will follow), you cant offshore cleaning , construction, all kind of thing. Never mind, everything you can offshore, IS or will be, no matter the minimum wages is.
While watching further am asking the question: why do you not team up with Amy Goodman and her team? Mergers of all kinds have proven to fail, thus not many really understood why that was. Did a comprehensive study on why those failed. Here two people, teams, with kindred spirits and obviously a shared vision and mission could merge. Am more than convinced, that this merger would not fail; would be the break-through team-work in the most recent history of investigative journalism!! Salute!!
Instead of listening to something someone says and consider it for the value of the actual remark, we consider more the source.
For example, I despise Sarah Palin, but to say that anything she says is instantly wrong, or an aspect of her philosophy is would be completely incorrect. I'd still never vote for her nor like her, but I won't negate everything she says.
Flip side you can't consider sources always right. You consider each statement.
1 + 1 = 2. Well said Paul. What comes to mind is the only time Christopher Hitchens was ever beaten in a debate. It is on You Tube on Tim Russert's old program. Andrew Sullivan took it to his friend Hitchens on Iraq & soundly out pointed Hitchens. I don't think they were friends after that. Hitchens never likes to concede anything, even small points. Sullivan is not seen with Hitchens again on YT that I know of and isn't mentioned in Hitch-22.
So great that this presentation of yours is posted here. You are among the rare investigative journalists i take seriously. Am looking forward to watch all of it and will be back. In the meantime, am sending Appreciation, Gratitude, and Love your Way.
@mike6459 Yes but instead of trying to understand why that happened and fixing those issues many would employ a brute club of tax the rich regardless of what they even did.
It's like a neocon thinking putting all muslims in prison will somehow fix his terrorism problem.
@moestietabarnak So ALL of them did? All of them untaxed themselves deliberately just like ALL muslims helped plan September 11th? Just like ALL germans wanted to see jews dead? ALL of them you sure? Even the guy who just got rich last week through hard effort, or the lobbiest who were rich and helped write the 2000 bill to nix Sarbanes Oxley that are below 250k now?
You have to get out of this ridiculous over generalisation mindset.
@sirellyn All of them are taxed. Not all of them "Untaxed": themselves, but ALL of them gain from those cut. so yes it's generalized BECAUSE taxes are generalized.
oh yea. Obama is a wall street guy but he has a good heart. So guess hes the better of the 2 evils, we continue to say that as he double down on Bush's anti civil liberty policies and just wait and see what he does in Iran.
@uche007us To be fair, he doesn't say Obama has a good heart, but (from memory) that, at least so far, he appears "rational", unlike his predecessor who appealed purely to caveman emotions. I was wondering which is worse. Bush's best quality, after all, was managing to unite so many people around the world -against him of course. Obama could do with some of that on a number of "his" policies.
"after 911"? How about at least 50 years of news becoming propaganda? Real News gets it somewhat on reporting events but misses the point entirely when it comes to economics. We need autonomy of economic decisions for ourselves. Big government is not the answer. No one in government can decide what is the best way to spend my money. They don't have the incentive to get it right.
@thetimman00 in a free market, the fittest survive and eventually you are left with a concentration of capital in the hands of very few people. Do you trust those people to give it back to you? Right now the banks and corporations who profited from the great recession are waiting for the economy to bottom out so they can buy it on the cheap. Their incentive is to keep as much money as they can while spending the least. The government, which is elected, has the incentive of getting votes.
@thetimman00 So if democracy is functioning as it should, the people who vote should get their tax money spent the way they want it to be spent, instead of letting the money loose in the control of people who dont care about the working class, and just want more money in their pockets.
I like the philosopy but I have uncertanties of its economic future... :S

Absolutely Brilliant...
I wish Paul Jay would come come to my Political Science class and give a presentation on the role of media in Politics...
As an EX-union member (because I am in school) I found his comments about the "slack/apathy" within the union structure to be most poignant.
I am a subscriber, and I intend on becoming a donor when financially capable, since the MSM is utterly USELESS at delivering relevant information...
