  • Very nice looking car. I love both the 51 and 52 Buicks. The interior is very nice for being original. It's too bad good cars are so damn expensive. These days you have to have alot of money to buy a brand new car.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Yes indeed...cars are getting very expensive..and the length of the loan period is trying to make up for that big price. I remember when the average car loan was 2, maybe 3 years at most. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I'm sure at the time, a new car was expensive as well, probably $2,000 or more depending on the options ordered.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Yes, for $2K, you could get a very nice car at that time. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 It's too bad that's not the case today. If all you had was $2K, the most you could get would be the frame and the body shell.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason...if you take into account inflation, which was rampant, that 2K becomes becomes 18K today! There's a calculator to determine that...using google...inflation calculator. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Indeed. Math has never been my strong suit. I'd definitely need a calculator to help with that.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason...you just plug in the dollar amount for 1951 and then it gives you the equivalent amount in 2010 dollars..no figuring necessary. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I'll check it out.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Cool...you'll be amazed at how much inflation has diminished the value of the dollar. Thanks! :) Jack

  • If I remember correctly Jack, the rear fender had a rudimentary chrome fin on the '52 Buick. I bought a 52 when I got out of college in the early 60's and only paid $90.00 for it. I also had a humpier trunk and the lights were a bit higher. Other than that, not much difference.

  • @bimjales Hey, Jim! Thanks for that help in identifying! Those were the days when you could buy a good car for just a little bit of money! Needless to say, those days are gone forever! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @brians09challenger Hey, Brian! That's great that you have a personal connection with these big Buicks! The Special in 53 was still using the ohv in line 8, for sure...the others were using the new V8. It's interesting about what owners ask for their rides...in some ways, parallel to housing prices. As always, something is worth what someone will pay, and I think many owners are finding that out right now. It's the rare owner that will recapture restoration costs! Thanks! :) Jack

  • At a fast glance the 51s and 52s do look very similar, but you sure can't say that about the toothy grill of the 50. The chrome, paint and interior look almost new I'm sure passengers enjoy driving in this car.Talk about ample leg room.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Yes indeed...I think the toothy grille was a bit much for the typical Buick customer...as always, GM retreated, just like they did with the 60 Chevy! There was always an attempt to push the boundaries of acceptable...if it worked, the reward was a styling coup, if not, it was a sales disappointment, if not a disaster! GM had enough money that they could afford risk. Thanks! :) Jack
