Been looking everywhere for this song for 20 years! I had no idea who it was and just came across it by chance. Would never have guessed it was PiL. I am in shock. John Lydon is amazing though...so cool!
@missSuchashame luckily me and some friends managed to get tickets for four of the gigs in 2007, they rocked, me and a friend seen them in 96 at finsbury park london on their comeback tour this was great too.
I first heard p.i.l on beavis and butthead. I instantly loved it. I looked for it on tape(all I had at the time) but was only on c.d. Years passed, and then I got with this old punk rock chik. She gave me some nice original p.i.l nostalgia -badges,shirt, and a nice tape or two. So started my journey of neurosis with P.I.L lmtd. Been twelve years now, and still love the sounds..
I love the Sex Pistols, and last week I heard PiL for the first time. To be honest, I absolutely hated it. But damn, somehow it grew on me and I think I actually like it now... ha, I actually really, really like it now.
Double Wow. Had to watch it twice. So the folks who burn little children to death live above ground and the christians live in dirty holes. Now I understand. UR out of your bleeping mind.
I love the song. The video is a little scatterbrained, though. I dig the lyrics: garbage in the environment, garbage in the media. Everyone is screwing it up for everyone, and everyone just ignores it.
The man is a genius i love him woud love ta meet him 1 day i love this yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh rock johnnny
talk about completely loosing the fucking plot! what a load of shit the eighties wwere, hilarious! and utterly embarrassing, I didn't realise Lydon had released such crap! I'm going to have knightmares because of this
If you keep up with interviews and the like, I'm pretty sure Lydon's point was that people had come to expect him to be something; they'd tried to pigeonhole him, so he did the exact opposite of what was expected. I mean, the man DOES have a sense of humor and irony lol.
I personally am not sure how I feel about supposed "post-punk" revivalists lately either. If any band gets close at all, it may be the Editors, simply because they have proven they know their roots. But, where's this sort of stuff any more? Sure it's poppy as hell, but it's quirky and fun, as opposed to just mindless drivel to sedate the masses.
It's kind of post-punk; it's from a post-punk band anyway. Some of PIL's stuff is REALLY experimental and a tad hard to swallow, but if you want good examples of what PIL did that was typical post-punk, I highly recommend the song "U.S.L.S. 1" (you can find it on Amazon MP3's and I believe on iTunes). Lydon did good work, and the genre as a whole is so diverse and amazing.
haha i just had a flashback i remember i was 10 i when i first saw this in 1988 and i was like...what the hell is this?this is weird..i dont understand..hehehe
What about 'do you like the taste of honey? Isn't it best without the bees!' That was nearly 20 years ago and now everyone is wondering where all the bees are disappearing too.
Do you know, I honestly never thought about that. I thought that if the bees died out then that would be the end of honey, seriously! Do you reckon it really is pollution?
Can't believe I've only just discovered this song. Who'd have thought a song with such heavy lyrical content could also be so cheerful?? Radiohead take note.
It took me quite a long time for PIL's music to grow on me cos most of it was inaccessible(first album i heard was greatest hits) but this was the first PIL song i took a liking to.
