  • It's takes a special pianist to bring out all the details in a Eubie Blake composition. Love your range of expression, Max!

When I was a kid, my memory of Eubie Blake is that he had the biggest span I'd ever seen in a human being, and the musical mind to match!

  • I'm a huge fan of both Blake and Morath, that said this recording bothers me somewhat. Morath doesn't sustain the melody notes with the pedal staring at 2.22 which is the whole point of the piece. What Eubie was aiming for is the "classical" three hand effect ala Thalberg. The composer accomplishes this wonderfully in his recording. I know I sound nit-picky but other than that this recording is very nice.

  • Much love and respect to the great Eubie Blake! I'm glad I got a chance to see him perform and receive much overdue acclaim in the 1970s, so late in his productive life.
