  • They should DEFINETLY make a world war 1 game. Maybe a RTS or first person shooter of it but a WW1 game would be AWESOME! anybody know of any?

  • Amazing footage, thankyou for uploading this... although the end scared the shit out of me... Lol.

  • awesome dude the music matches the theme

  • omg if i was a soldier i woud be like DAMN !

  • LOL they look like moving houses, amazing footage

  • i own 2 of these for recreation

  • the end bit was funny ha ha

  • Has anyone seen the stem powere'd armour from just before WW1? That could have maken a good machine gun mount. WW1 gave us many great technologies, as well as many steps bakwards. I mean tanks and the development of planes and the French discovered that cavalry charges across no man's land doesn't work

  • They were uneffective, but they look frightening!

  • Actually they were uneffective when used in small numbers. Towards the end of the war, England managed to figure out that sending 200-300 tanks at one time was a lot more effective. But they still sucked because the armor was poor and there was no venting for the exhaust.

  • No, they were very effective.

  • the song is from medal of honor

  • "Tanks"were invented by Leonardo Da'Vincy but yes more supireur tanks were created by the Britsh.

  • man, drive this beast in the middle ages and you can conquer the the entire europe or russia! Well..until u have to refuel and do some weekly maintenance on it:DD

  • i dont think so!, just put fire on it, and the crew dies

  • where is the music from

  • It was englishmen who made the first tanks, imagine if Germans would made tanks before englishmen ... The war would end completly different becouse the East front was free after the peace treaty with Russians, Germans could focus on the West front with whole army.

  • omg medal of honor music!

  • tanks In those days are weak to small arms fire.

  • The British lost more men to thier own tanks than they killed germans due to carben minoxide poisoning as the engines were exposed.

  • without tanks we would of made no gains at the somme

  • tanks at the time are terror weapons.

Their primary task is to strike fear into the german imperial armys heart....

  • the tank is called a tank because when they were invented the people building them were told they were building water tanks and the name stuck when they were first introduced to the battle field the germans abandond there trenches and ran away it was the first advancment in 2 years

  • do you know why the tank is called a tank because when it was invented it was so top secret the people building it were told they were building water tanks and the name stuck

  • The tank's debut was in the battle of the somme, featuring the Mark 1 model. It is in this video, and appears around the 25th second.

  • debut of the tank was in the battle of the somme. Modell mark 1.

  • you can see a big difference from ww2

  • theres no name of the song as im concerernd but its from the orginal medal of honor i think sir

  • I severely doubt this was ACTUALLY shot in combat. It looks like at least some is staged as a propaganda film.REASONS:

-Those soldiers are NOT keeping their heads down. Doing that on the western front would result in severe head trauma in 7.62mm size.

-The advance is covered side on...with no gunfire at all? The cameraman (and a lot of the troops) would have been peppered by MGs.

-Some infantry walk in no-mans-land.Not plausible.

Its genuine WW1,but not of an actual assault.Still great though.

  • are we more or less of men then they? what balls, i could only hope my grandchildren would feel the same about us.

  • thats the first tank ever by the brits

  • Without this machine there would be no abrams.

  • yeah it's weird when you compare those tanks with those of ww1

  • can someone tell me why theres a wooden roof like thing on top?

  • Protection from hand grenades.

  • Actually, I'd say it's some form of trench-bridge. Mk.1s were adapted to carry various devices to cover/fill trenches......and they always went on the roof. Some of those devices are still used today.

It looks like a roof......but I doubt it would stop a grenade. The Mk1 had armor between 6-10mm thick....the thing on top wouldn't make up for that.

  • well not really, it was probably a prototype of the Mark I tank and it was still under preparations.

  • it has a part time job as a bus shelter

  • it was discarded on later models, hence why the iconic world war 1 tank that people know doesnt have that structure

  • thats a wierd tank

  • its like the first ever tank what do you expect

  • they were the very first tanks used in battle, they were basically giant metal boxes with treads and machine guns.

  • can anyone tell me the name please

    i need it ! =D

  • can anyone tell me the name of the song???

please im making a ww1 presentation in school

and this song its perfect =D

  • miusic medal of hono

  • walking coffin

  • they should of made them so soldiers could go inside of them atleast 15 or so and then they would move across the no mans land with like 10 tanks holding 15 men each and t hen once they got to the trenches they drop of the men and cover them with the turrets

  • saaaayyy... the music sounds like Medal of Honour Airborne music eh?

  • This was literally a "tank".

  • When they were first made they broke down and they also got stuck in the mud, they were genious in that it managed to make some sort of cover for troops so that they wudnt be mowed down machine gun fire and it also meant that if they did make it to the trench that they cud roll over the barbed wire, they were also used at the end of the war combined with the infantry and the air force to great success.

  • This is the most overrated, most useless piece of equipment in the war. How can anyone shit in their pants when a garage sized thing is moving towards you at 3 mph that has a 2/3 chance of breaking down before it gets into action? Especially when the German infantry had everything it needed right there to take them out. This is nothing but more British self-aggrandizement to distract from how Haig repeatedly bled his army to death over and over for absolutely no gain.

  • Probably why only very few of them saw action, it was meant mostly for infiltrating the opposing trenches.

  • back then no one have ever seen a tank before so u would shit ur pants too

  • Well if you were tired, dirty, emotional and physically weak, hungry and then you saw a massive metal slug moving forward fireing at you and also when you shoot it and it dosnt stop what would you be thinking? the tanks did terrify the germans to begin with

  • Tired? From sitting in well defended positions?-No. Emotionally weak?-Was counselor Troi there to make that assessment? Physically weak?-Far more energetic than the foot soldiers advancing (crawling if they like living) toward you in your well defended position. Hungry?-Years later. Not in 1916 when this was introduced. It doesn't stop? Hell yea it does. You got excellent mortars available (universally in the german army) to your unit. You got upper level artillery. The garage stops!

  • Uh, do you actually know how awfull the trenches were? Uh, ever heard of Wilfred Owen? Uh, what planet are you on?

  • W.T.F!!!!! I'd stick you in a disease ridden, rat infested trench up to your neck in dirt and water on next to no food getting shot at, blown up and gassed surrounded by decaying corpses and rotting equipment. Bare in mind at that time you'd of probably never even seen a motor car let alone a tank, had next to no education and until you got called into a war never even travelled.... till that day comes you have no idea what happened to be able to make a comment like that. Pratt.

  • No education?Explain me about that.

  • As early as '15 the Germans at home were being told to eat less. By '16 they had ersatz food at home and the soldiers were being told to have one day a week without food to ease the burden on supplies. Winter of 15-16 was freezing cold, winter of 16-17 was sodden and freezing cold. Add to that constant shelling, gas attacks and never ending death and I imagine that they would be tired emotional and weak. Plus artillery wasn't very accurate so the tanks would take some real stopping.

  • If you put yourself in the shoes of someone who has never seen an armoured vehicle before, then it probably looked pretty bloody terrifying. We well know how Haig treated the BEF, but it doesn't detract from the leap of imagination it took to developt this thing into a fighting machine. It was actually remarkably successful and it went on to become the single most important development of the war. If you think about it, it is the only major concept that is still in use today.

  • WW1 Was also the first time battleplanes and air recons were introduced, in the beginning of the war pilots fought each other with all kind of weapons, varying from pistols to hooks on a rope. During the war, airplanes developped just as the tanks.

  • apart from fighting aircraft of course. and anti-submarine warfare. but apart from fighting aircraft and anti-submarine warfare and strategic bombing what did the war ever give us.

  • Apparently not the ability to talk

  • Another world war. :|

  • it gave us better understanding of how to treat bullet woneds and i suppose how to amputate and justabout probbaly most stuff to do with medecation and injureys/woonds

  • wow that tank is no used any more ? why dude cant we just like build tank that like normal tank and have gun on thee right an left ?

  • it could be hit in the back but and modern tank could fire at the rear

  • Probally recoil because the recoil could hit some1 not paying attention wheres hes at

  • cus one can shoot anywaer and the ones with one on each side cant hit right in front of the tank dead center and they cant shoot to the back of the tank eather so you could stand in front of the tank and not get hit cus the shells would land to the side of you if you were dead center in front of it but if the tank has a turet than it can hit anyware it wants with no blinde spots

  • long live britania!!! yes unurature the blacks did play a vital role. most of the u.s army that fought in france was black!!

  • World War 1 was a bloody war =( R.I.P to those brave soldiers who died there.

  • war is hell

  • wow! these weapons have come a long way since then!

  • yeah those tanks may have been slow especially to us in this age of abrams tanks that FLY down the battlefield, but in 1917 seeing one of those metal behemoths creeping towards you was enough to make you shit your pants.

  • lol......

    medal of honor song.....

  • hmm... God those tanks drive slow 13KM/t

  • looks like there is wood on them; a little mobile house

  • music is from medal of honor frontline.and those r weird tanks.well much more different looking.

  • well thats the first for them, its the first time ever that they use tanks and planes for combat :p

  • nice worms reference

  • funny end

  • Man those poor souls chargeing out of the trenches only to be mowed down by machine gun fire and may have a few survivers.

  • How very true... These were the horrors of the first truely modern war.

  • Its high stakes red rover.

  • That's what happens when nations don't change their tactics with new technology

  • those tanks go 4mph :D

  • dam u do not keep up with your history man these were the fist tanks ever made

  • the first tanks had it's guns on the side

  • and they had some shooting holes, its like a armed troop carrier.

  • aujourd hui a mort le dernier poilu, lazare ponticelli, honneur et gloire.

  • that song is from medal of honor =p

  • ye its moh breakthrough great song

  • Is that music from Medal of Honor?

  • holy shit, I was thinking the exact same thing, I need that soundtrack!

  • holy shit, I was thinking the exact same thing, I need that soundtrack!

  • Tanks back then were actually quite weak. The armor was easily peirced by enemy gunfire, it's just the fact that this huge metal behemoth comeing at you thended to scare the **** out of the German troops. Meanwhile, inside the tank, you were likely to die of Carbon Monoxide poisoning, and the ride wasn't the most comfortable when you went over a trench.

  • Besides that, the inside of those tanks got incredibly hot.

  • at the battle of Cambrai a large formation of tanks did extremely well and penetrated the german lines quite easily

from this germans learned that tanks would play a big part in future wars

  • lol i knoq this song its from medal of honor breakthrough

  • just absolutely amazing how no matter what point in history.. human technological advancement can always be measured in how sophisticated our tools are for killing eachother.. haha "war spawns invention"

  • I enjoyed your video. I had not seen this particular footage before. Nice choice of music also.

  • tanks are one of the most powerfull thigns an army has. with modern technology even they are near on impossible to stop with 15 inch reinforced steel armor and back in thees days it was highest technology around for the war if you had never seen that before coming towards you you would shit your fucking pants dont post about stuf you have no idea about

  • 15 inches? I dont think its that thick ...

  • Modern tanks have about 12" of frontal armour plus additional bolt on and active blocks. However, Chobham gives an armour protection of 40" equivalent and the new Dorchester armour on Challenger 2 even more.

  • Aye the Tank is a very powerful tool however the day of the tank is not as much now as it was back then. Tanks are no longer the juggernauts they was back then, so many anti tank weapons around now but also anti tank missiles and bombs on aircraft. I would hazard a guess that given time the tank will become just support rather than a brute force spear head unit. Altho thats my opinion.

  • No the reason for the ww2 tank in the first world war was to clear the barbed wire and provide cover for infantry so I'd say it did it's job quiet well. The only problem was it cost so much they couldn't produce them the way they needed,so it was more like a terror weapon as a heavy mine or accurate artillery would stop on of those overgrown cars in it's tracks.

  • this was in ww1..... not in modern warfare...

  • These tanks may be good and deadly but those U-boats were beast.

  • Try putting an U-boat on land... :P

  • doesnt matter how do you think all the supplies go there, by boat, howd they send troops there, by boat.

  • french troops??? German Troops??? Aus-Hun troops???...

  • Remember the Lusitania, the Brtisih boat with 128 american citizens on it, since the us(the americans needs boats to get from here to there the German U-boats could have easily ambushed them, those submarines were really stealthy

  • That was a civilian ship

  • The nusic is from Medal of Honor Underground 2 of PS ONE

  • Great footage. There is a World War One restored in Color in DVD.

  • ya those tanks were slow, but they were meant to cross trenches in the Western Front, not to race.

  • No need for speed - their purpose was to support the infantry and help them break through the enemy lines. After this the cavalry could use its speed to exploit the hole in the enemies front.

  • in WWI their purpose was to get across the machine gun fire and into/over trenches... it was sort of an APC with some gunholes.

  • APC? I thought that term was only used in Advanced Wars. xD

  • lol armoured personnel carrier.

  • I would love to see Spielberg do a movie about the first time a tank appeared (WWI). If you watch "Saving Private Ryan," when the first German tanks were moving toward Tom Hanks' men, Spielberg seem to portray it as if a monster was approaching....the noise, the ground shaking..... It was cool!

  • oh and the first tank was invented by britsh

  • but the first tank-battle was won by the germans. It was one german Tank vs one Mark male an one Mark female.

  • nope, that one ended in stalemate, one A7V knocked out a british tank, but one other british Mk5 took out the A7V,which was abandoned by its crew

  • The first major allied offensive with those ..tanks... wasnt really a big succes, they made some ground yes but not nearly what they expected. plus those things at that time were a 'huge' investment and to compare it with the succes they made with it i can only think they called it unsuccesfull at the time.

  • Somewhere i readed that the very first time the frontline germans saw some of those things coming for them they screamed out that the devil had come... however the succes the allies made with it then surely proved diffrent:)

  • at least the troops had something to hde behind while going over the top, so they did serve a purpose even tho the war was not far off over when they came about

  • I love those old iron behemoths.

  • It looks like the tank they used in the third movie of Indiana Jones - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!

  • Hahha classic music from Medal of Honor underground!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • I had one conclusion-it was a horrible thing to be infantry sordier when tanks first appiared, jast immagin that ,u in the battle field and suddenly some big chank of metal moving towards u,not very nice condition...

  • nice clip! it was horrible full stop whitebear

look at my gallipoli clip.the sheer pointlessness of it amazes me.

A lot of the early tanks broke down and became death traps but they sure as hell scared the enemy and did have a useful effect. They rolled straight over barbed wire which was the main obstacle to any infantry.

the term (tank) was meant to signify a water tank as they wanted it secret.

  • As slow as those old tanks were, (5 Mph) at best, if it came towards you, I would be scared, very scared indeed.

  • haha medal of honor music

  • that is AMAZING footage

a MK1 too... ive never seen one in a video

  • I love the way world war one tanks look - they're so much more interesting that others

  • It only sucks that they acted as death traps. But sure, they looked cool.

  • Actually, the tank saved many lives, and broke the stalemate that ww1 had become. It was the only solution to the trenches.

  • actually the tanks were unsucsesfull for the allies

  • Both right and wrong. Germans ran out of steam after a hell of an offensive in Spring 1918. Plus tons of countries (yes, US included) joining the fight in the last year. Never listen to any argument that says "ONE thing" won this or that war, it's never so simple. Neat vid, though.

  • ok, I was only trying to point out the tank was a "good" invention in the long run, ok, where would we be today if it were not for tanks?.....Back in the trenches! Thank you

  • come down darling

  • State-of-the-art 1917 style.

  • There was a secret german tank project called "Oberschlesien". It was a small and fast assault tank with a 360° moving turret like the FT-17. The "Oberschlesien" should be ready for battle in spring 1919, equipped with a 37mm/57mm cannon and two MG 08/15.

  • Medal of honor frontline music. I played that alot in the past, and I recongnize it. WW1 tanks like the markI in the video were terrible to be inside of, but still, cool tank and video.

  • The best tank was the Mark A Whippet. Granted shitty armor, but 8mph and 4 machine guns!

  • The WW1 tanks were´nt very powerful and easy to destroy with grenades because there armour wasn´t very thick/well made

  • They were made to make path for infantry ;).Not for crushing like in WW 2.

  • In WW2, tanks did not crush and were there for infantry support. In WW1, they were designed to cross trenches and crush barbed wire etc.

  • That's what i meaned but still they had some good weapons in them :) =).

  • The A7V was a failure and even the germans themselves admitted it.They started to design a tank very similar to the British Mk5 but the war ended before it was finished. The A7V had good armour and guns but it was a huge target and easy to hit.Worst of all it had terrible trench crossing ability and got stuck frequently.

  • It didn't have the "AV 5".

  • Hey!!!! Im working on a project at school!! And its a about the world war one!! And I wondering if you can try to mail me the Video!:D

  • Germany only made 20 tanks. they dident beleive so strongly in them.

my favorite tank is the Mark VI

  • One of the best tank of the WWI was the French Renault FT-17 because it was much more easy to control and it was able to cross trenches.

  • The French Renault FT-17 tanks were very effective partly because of their trench crossing abilities and their revolving turrets, but mostly because they were cheap to build and maintain. They ran well and were easy to mass produce. Great early tank!

  • German tanks at the time were shaped like massive squares and had heavier guns and armor than British tanks but were slower and easier to hit. only one tank battle recorded in WWI resulting in a British victory

  • Their tank looked like a giant boat.

  • Tanks had problems with trenches alot, but did good for crushing barbwire. They were like at max 10 - 14 mph. some were like 8

  • It's a shame nobody will make world war 1 games with the old fashion tanks.

  • Theres a mod for battlefield 1942, called bf1918, it has al the old fashiond tanks, trenchs, aircraft and others, its a rally good and fun mod :P

  • The Germans had the A7V tank that was faster with better armor but could not cross trenches like the British Mark series tanks. I think they made only 23 of them. They captured many British and French tanks during the war and used them along side their A7V's. You can drive them all and have fun with the BF1918 mod of the BF1942 game. I love this mod!

  • the German have tanks , one of the is in the tank museum in muster

  • German tanks were basically doctored Mark IV's captured from the British

  • nice! Only the british tank Mark IV, but where is the german tank???

    I miss the german A7V!

You can see many pictures on google!

  • no german tank at that time; Artillery was doing the job

  • of course, germans had their own tank at late end of WW1! its the A7V ;-)

  • the gremans first tank was more of a boat and lost all tank battles it was in the tracks were just to small and the mark 1 and mark 2,3,4,5,67,8,9... were better

  • Yeah I seen that picture on wikipedia funny looking tank that.

You could call it a land ironclad.

  • My great grandfather was in the first significant tank battle at Cambrai. He was with the troops that broke through the German lines and got taken prisoner. He was put in a hard labour camp for 'troublemakers' for demanding his rights under the Geneva convention. Needless to say his health was ruined and he didn't live long after the war ended.

  • The tank was without doubt invented by the British.

  • The mark 1 might have been a deathtrap but the mark 4 and 5's were formidable late in the war. They were so successful on the battlefield most german generals realized tanks would play a huge part in future wars. One general was even asked why the allies defeated his troops in one battle. Was it discipline or moral? No he said, they had tanks,we had not.

  • the mark 1 didnt have any exhaust so the crew breathe carbon monoxide so the MARK I Tank Sucked

  • The whole idea for the tank comes from this war, they had to think of a way of moving soldiers across no mans land without them taking a volley of machine gun fire. Putting a big steel box around them worked a treat, the germans turned and ran the first time they saw these machines moving slowly towards them

  • True, but British and French didn't use this advantage...they stopped after conquering the first line...

The same as the Germans did when they used poison gas for the first time...although the enemy runs they didn't take more then a few lines and therefore lost the advantage.

  • Ps. they didn't put steel around them but in front, this way the could take fire from the machine guns.

A few big scale tank attacks where held by the British, and they captured a huge part of the German lines since the Germans could not destroy the tanks.

    //Øyvind

  • ya, but actually their first attemt at an armored machine was armoring up some tractors with flaps that expand 4ft out from the sides, it worked extremelly well except when they hit trences.

  • This is awesome! I'm a big WWI fan, (for World War I) and with this footage and the Medal of Honor music (I think from the last level of MoH Frontline) This is really good.
