Is it true this doesn't appear on any DVD release because the movie company felt, that with all of Jim and Franks joking around - - that it conflicts with how they'd like the Muppets to be perceived? In particular, the scenes where Kermit breaks it to Fozzie that he's not a "real" bear - and likewise Fozzie points out the rod to Kermits arm. Also the scene where Miss Piggy admits to cutting miss Mousy in half - - things like that are what kept it off the DVD release and re-releases.
Not sure about that. I'm guessing that Disney, who now distributes The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper, did not get the rights to this reel. It is probably still owned by Columbia or Jim Henson Studios.
as much as I would want Frank Oz and Jerry Nelson to perform their characters in the new moveis (fraggle and muppet ) BUT i doubt they would.
Beyond that I don't know if it would be right to those brave people who have filled some large shows over the last decade or two. I'd like to see them involved on some level though..
I agree. I just wish they were behind it somewhat. I'm not sure how Jim would feel about Disney mostly using his characters as promotional pieces. The man hated commercials. What do you think?
Yeah it would feel good to have some of the "old gang" in there, but latter performs like Steve Whitmire, Clash, etc.. are just as important and influencial.. if not more b/c they grew up watching and dreaming, and eventually achieved those dreams
no doubt the great Goelz will be involved
Jim's company was founded on commercials, and he continued to do them throughout...
With all due respect, i disagree with most of your comment
JH not only embraced commercials, but they are attributed to his foundation. The hundreds of commercials he did in the 50's & 60's funded all projects that would pan out into what we all cherish
In interviews Jim says he liked the idea of muppets joining Dis, and being immortalized in their stable of characters. Ofcourse i'm sure he's not happy about Disney turning his family into a novelty act.. i agree there
That's what I meant. That last part. He was working with Disney around the time he died. Muppet Vison 3D was actually the last thing he ever did. But, yeah, I just don't like how Disney has only used them for endorsements and not the way Jim would have.
And I see what you mean with all the Sam and Friends commercials, but towards the Sesame Street era, Jim thought commercials would ruin his characters which is exactly what Disney is doing.
I brought this up myself, just need an fan opinion.
absolutely.. you look at their 30th anniversary special, or that red carpet event they did in the late 70's... you start to realize that the whole thing with muppets were that they were treated like people, other celebrities out there in the world... now they are more of a novelty act... it all seems forced.. at least from a programming standpoint
excited to see what the two new movies will bring. I think Jason segel knows what it takes to bring back the classic style
i do, too, man! it sounds like he penned an amazing script!
also, i think the difference between back then and now is that it's almost like they have to request to use the celebrities for tv spots. back in the 70's, anyone would die to be near a muppet. i've noticed more b-list celebs lately, too. and that just doesn't work in my opinion.
well suffice it to say there are a lot of shoes yet to be filled.. there was quite a lot of work that people w/o puppets contributed... Bernie Brillstein and Jerry Juhl (RIP) and in this particular case David Lazer
the level of celebs just has to do with the continued mismanagment of the muppets under The empire
Disney commercials are not that different from Muppet commercials. You know, buy our products or we'll break your legs! Do you like Hanna Montana? *gun shot* Things just happen to children who don't like Hanna Montana. Wilkins, Walt, same difference. ; P
I was thinking of a special edition DVD of the Muppet Movie with more scenes, bonus features (including the screen tests), deleted scenes, etc. etc. that I want to officially exist in the future.
Love it =D but one idiosyncrasy—at 4:08 you can see a human hand on the steering wheel, after Fozzie says Animal is driving. However, that is a small matter.
They remind me of when I was in college. When me and a friend tried smoking grass. "Look at this tree." "This is real bark."" Look at this bark would you?"
"Get two burgers!"
" Look at the windsheild wipers Kermit". "Watch them go, I think I'm gonna get sick."
not exactly sure. i know this was before they got to their location for the film, so i think they just shot this on the drive over. something tells me this was in britain, and i don't think they shot there.
No. This was shot well in advance of the film in order for the production team to see what the Muppets would look like when used in real life locations.
I think it would be horribly scarring to be one of the kids in a Muppet movie.
"And...cut!"
"So what do you want to do now Gonzo?............Gonzo?!?!?"
