Snarf is what Jim based his "Purple necked black bearded Blatch" muppet pattern fhat was featured in a holiday 1968 Women's Day Magazine. He designed 5 kid-hand sized character patterns for that issue. a cute puppet script was included.
This is the same Rowlf who does comedy in the Muppet Theater and counts lights on Sesame Street? Whew...Jim Henson must have been a real Jekyll and Hyde!
@Superstarseven: Only once--in a Season 1 film (also made by Jim Henson); search for "Sesame Street baker #9" and it should turn up here on YouTube, At 0:52 on that clip, Rowlf counts the nine lights I alluded to in my last comment.
In the book Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell tells us that all of the Muppets started out in edgy tv commercials, including Big Bird! Who would of thunk it?
@Wh3nYour3Strang3 Actually, that WASN'T Kermit in the Wilkins Coffee ads. It was Wilkins in those commercials, whose regular target was named Won'tkins.
Do you have a clip of a Goldie Hawn special where she kisses Kermit, then turns into a muppet, and when she kisses Jim Nabors he turns into a snerf, and when he kisses Ruth Buzzi, she turns into a snerf?
And it's too bad, too. I recently did a show with a Witch in it and one of the mothers said: "Well...the witch was a little...scary...". It's a WITCH, it's SUPPOSED to be scary!

Holy smokes! And from the mouth of the original Kermit, too! If Elmo had this kind of snark, his Tickle-Me doll would be in this as well.

there was a puppet pattern for somthing like him in '68 called the "purple-necked Black-bearded Blatch.

I know these commericals are supposed to be cute, and they are. But I would think that kids would be scared by Kermit.
Basssinger86 3 years ago
The Snerfs here are more spidery than the ones seen on the Muppet Show.
Akira625 3 years ago
Shades of Wilkins Coffee here, what with the Kermit puppet's threats.
I wish the people who write for the Muppets nowadays (and try to make them edgy)would watch this and discover what Muppet edge REALLY is.
