  • great song, but one of the most traumatizing music videos ive seen.

  • 'Cool World' trailer sent me here.

  • Whatever happened to Art of Noise? Nowadays all we seem to get is noise.

  • Now this song takes me back to my 7th grade year in Jr High and playing "Elevator Action" at the Arcade.

  • god rik is so hot yummy

  • "look at the hand, now back to me, I'm on a horse" (5:08)

  • I came here for Rik Mayall

  • красиво поставили клип

  • This is the only known antidote to the existence of Justin Bieber.

  • The original Peter Gunn theme is by Henry Mancini.

  • Funny, but they stole it from the program "Peter Gun" from 1958!!!! LOL

  • @poppaluv Dude, it's called a cover. It's when artists perform a song originally written or performed by someone else. It's not that complicated.

  • @rcwells27

REALLY???? No!!!!!!! I guess you missed all the comments about Fatboy slim ,Prodigy, etc. sampling a song by Art of noise(like they created it), that they themselves covered 5 decades after the original. Did your mother have children that lived?????

  • @poppaluv Well, they just liked the Art of Noise's version of the song better.

The original probably wouldn't have blended with the Prodigy. Besides, this is all down to the sampler, Art of Noise never claimed to own this song, They just let a group borrow some of their work. It's really not that hard to comprehend.

  • @rcwells27 Hey, for the record,I loved it since it came out. Just sayin' lets give credit where credit is due(originally). Sorry if I sounded like an ass, but Mancini is/was(?) one of the greats hmself.

    Peace.. :)

  • @poppaluv Yeah, I'm sorry if I was acting dickish. Lets just agree that it's a great cover of a great song.

  • 46 people don't get originality... and the number will probably go up

  • AMAZING!! ORIGINAL!!! IT GAVE ME ATHLETE'S FOOT!!!

  • MASSIVE CLASSIC !!!

  • AWESOME!!

  • The Prodigy sampled from these guys too.

  • 1:34 - this sample fatboy slim used in "the rocafeller skank"

  • Good old days when they did put a complete story into a music video!

  • I remember this! Rik Mayall was great in this clip! Love the song : )

  • Im 14 and i love this song!!!!!!!

  • Everyone seems to like remaking Vincente Minnelli's Band Wagon (1953) with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse. watch?v=B0GWCk9wnak

  • my dad showed me this music when i was 5.. it was good then and its good now!

  • which is the artist of the song?

  • @alexis66613 The music was performed by Art of Noise with guitar by Duane Eddy. It was composed by, believe it or not, Henry Mancini!

  • @MrUnidyne Thanks :)

  • Now back to me. I'm on a horse.

  • @gmj2012

there are collectors and purists who like to see the title cars that are rarely seen on promos

  • @DPJTRON The music couldn't be playing while displaying that text? Probably not if this is how they did the video with the music to start/match the video itself. Thanks for the response, for those like me who don't need that info, skipping to 20 seconds is a good idea. This video is also worth the 20 second wait for those who would rather wait. :)

  • @DPJTRON 0h yeah!!!

  • Let's see if Justin Bieber can top this

  • I love this!!!! Old detective film noir through an 80's prism, amazing!

  • very, very cool group! awesome sound! I miss this stuff!

  • how..fucking..HOT is SHE!!!

  • I hear some Fatboy Slim!? :)

  • @JiS01 Fatboy Slim sampled this song. In Funk Soul Brother.

  • @omsrswt the tracks called rockerfeller skank

  • The Pirates 77 live cover will always be the definitive version of this classic instrumental.

  • I've got no idea what's happening but ah well, Rik's in it & I sure do love my Rik =P

  • Spy Hunter.

  • Omg, it's Rik fucking Mayall!

  • @Rikairiify yes it most certainly is. :-)

  • wow this is like the orignial dubstep...

  • Good horn version of PG. Don't confuse Peter Gunn musicial lyrics w/ Raymond Chandler literary lyrics, though.

  • uh?

  • my personal favorite 80s music video

  • VVVvvvvvvvvaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!!! pleasure!!!!

  • i think i still have this on a cassette tape...

  • this song is the theme song advert of bored to death

  • Even the RATS complain.

  • SPYHUNTER!!!

  • Twangin' Duane Eddy.

  • What's with the first 21 seconds?

  • This is only a cover.

  • The Original one is from Mancini in THE BLUES BROTHERS soundtrack (1980)

  • @slihfshf The original was written by Mancini for the "Peter Gunn" series in 1958 or 59.

  • Rik Mayall AND the Art of Noise!!!

How could it be any better!?

  • @PortMantoo Tits.

  • The sign on the building they went into was "MUSEUM OF MODERN ART". I had to freeze frame it to make it out.

  • "People like me"?! What IS an argument? Numbers? An explanation why so many people disapprove of my comment is that probably most visitors are fans of this "effort" above. . Democracy is ruled by numbers as well. When a nation choses a Sharia regime incl inhumane actions towards many is unpleasant but numbers are numbers, not? Every day countless people eat @ Mac Donalds. An argument to extrapolate it into let everyone eat it forever? But, indeed, taste is an opinion.
  • Always WEAK when people cant stand a negative comment.

  • @purpelaar

No, it's weak when people like you can't express a proper explanation behind their subjective negative comments on YouTube. Apparently even YouTube says that too many people disapproved of your comment.

  • this is where that song is from....interesting

  • LOVE this! thank you. Its in my favorites. helena.

  • This cory guns father

  • I have a peter gun...

  • Rik from "The Young Ones" !! That show was so Funny. Great version of the Gunn theme as well.

  • This is pretty cheesy. Not terrible though.

  • Where can we buy this video?

  • Who's the dame?

  • yes thats rick mayal alright

  • Lol that was a really funny video, hadn't seen one of those in years, nowdays everyone wants to looks smart with bizzare complex videos

  • @xhifbhiex I have seen this video once before when it first came out , very funny and quite well done . I was just wondering who was the guy who played the P.I when I came across Rik Mayall 's name in the comments , now I need to know who played the femme fatale and the barkeeper who turned out to be a crime boss .

  • Oh and by the way, crack had not been invinted yet....

  • Dios que cancion!!! hacia anos que no oia esta cancion vamos, yo tendria unos 10 anos o algo asi, y no solo eso si no que no la oida desde los tiempos del Albades vieja, que pasada

  • Is that Rick Mayal from the Young Ones?

  • @VicDelRio100 - It looks like him. ;-)

  • @VicDelRio100 Yes it is

  • @VicDelRio100 YES...........THE SEXIEST COMEDIAN OF THE UK...sorry; im just partial to him. cant help it.................love the man

  • The Peter Gun theme totally kicks ass. It's still frequently used in movie and TV sound tracks almost 50 years after its introduction.

  • Good stuff!

  • This is what the Deacon was playing in the car when they were driving around the oil tanker throwing cigarettes to everyone in Waterworld. LOL

  • Don't start till 1:20

  • For those who want to skip the prologue, the music starts at 1:34.

  • Great song

  • Rik is totally way hot in this.

  • Rik Mayall is a comic genius. Brings back great memories of the Young Ones. Truly an iconic series.

  • thanks for the upload.i loved this as a kid, since i was a huge young ones and rik mayal fan.thanks again.

  • @carterharrington - Aside from your misuse of the word accost, you should realize you are in the ignorant minority. 896 likes to 35 dislikes tells me you have no appreciation for good music.

  • Comment removed

  • Holy crap, that's Rik Mayall. I had no idea.

  • @GuanoLad Same here. Didn't discover the Young Ones until waaaaaaaayyyyy after 1986, lol!

  • @GuanoLad It's Duane Eddy

  • hahaha

  • lol bridget jones' diary: prep for big date scene :P

  • Há que saber esperar, ao minuto e 40seg as coisas aquecem.... ;)

  • man o man there will NEVER be another 80's . .

  • @casperlok2dbrain ... souvenirs, souvenirs... All this does not rejuvenate us, but it s so good to listen to once more

  • So Waaay Cooool!!!!!

  • It's the bartender from the Mos Eisley Cantina at Mark 0:58

  • Hey. Asshole DJ who posted this bullshit. STOP.

  • weltklasse musik

  • fun, inventive.

  • Duane Eddy actually played on the song. There was one version (extended mix?) where he talks too

  • You mean the one where the music abruptly stops for a second and you hear Duane saying something like "You think I should do another one?".

  • Peter Gunn is a theme from original American television, and the gansters versus the FBI shows. The Art of Noise did a remake of Peter Gunn, and I approve.

  • This is just like one bad drug trip.

  • @leslucas this one ain't bad

  • 50 years of Duane Eddy is not enough.

  • Duane Eddy, still God after all these years

  • Damn I miss the 80s.

  • Nice for a Lord Such fan to find him talked about anywhere, let alone in an Art Of Noize thread, bizarre indeed but very cool! If you watch his full length b/w live version of Jack The Ripper on YT you will see the best thing on the net.

  • genialny numer!!!!

  • Rik is everything to his fans! incluidng me. I'm so jealous of his wife Barbara! She gets to make his tea and so much more. I hope she appreciates him!

  • OMG! RIK! I so used to love you!

  • @swetergrl91 USED TOO? oh no, we all love Rik still...he's magnificent

  • But Link Wray did the cover of Jack the Ripper that made the track famous. Ask any east coast band and I bet 85% percent would say Link Wray originally performed the song. They are very wrong.

  • My bad,,, the White Stripes /Lord Sutch version is completely different than the Link Wray version.....of course the guitar intro that I heard has a similar style to Link Wray,,, totally two different songs,, my bad

  • @DPJTRON fresh upload... @purpelear just had tied their panties in knot and went into RAGE!!!

  • @DPJTRON dude; my lil' sister dated link wray jr. !!!!!!!!!! i couldn't belive i asked my sister's date for his father's autograph!!!!!!!!!!

  • @purpelaar

    Wow, you suck.

  • @purpelaar

    Wow, you suck.

  • @purpelaar fucking rocker.

  • The problem with this video is that the person playing Peter Gunn is the exact opposite of Peter Gunn. He was supposed to be a private eye, but had a totally different style to most of the noir private eyes. Gunn was supposed to be well-groomed and suave, not a guy who looked like he fell asleep in a trash bin with a bottle of whiskey and a wet dog.

  • The guy has three arms at 1:28

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but the guitar riff is actually the same as The White Stripes - Jack the Ripper :) Awesome

  • @Jelle528 I don't think so - that riff was from the theme song from a TV series in the late 1950's? You and the "White Stripes" probably weren't born yet.

  • @preferre that doesn't mean the white stripes didn't sample peter gunn.

  • XOXOXO

    MROSOSMEE LOVE IT

  • i always thought the guy in the video looked like Hugh Laurie, um ok.

  • @kjs1968

Its Rik Mayall, a comedian contemporary of Hugh Laurie. Also a skinny public school posh boy (as oppposed to the more commonly seen pudgey posh boy) ;)

PS - anyone who only knows Hugh Laurie from 'House' has masses of joy ahead of them discovering his comedy work, youtube "Fry and Laurie"

  • That guitar rocks.

  • Supercooler Sound! Ganz klar ein Fav!!!

  • Real sexy Agent 007 inspired theme song, love it!!!

  • I never knew this was Art Of Noise until now. MTV used to play this whenever they had techincal difficiulties back in the late 80s.

  • one of the best 80s music videos and songs ever..

  • who or what is peter gunn?

  • Thats the name of the song.

  • old tv spy like james bond

  • This is brilliant on the part of Trevor Horn

  • LOOOOOVE the part where he's dancing, god that's hot and cute at the same time.

  • WHO CARES WHO PLAYED WHO or who wrote it; RIK'S the best...he's younger here and as sexy as he is TODAY at 50.

A tummy, grayish hair and will be gorgeous until the day I die.

  • @chocolatcats hallugiah choclatcats. love that i'm not the only one that loves him with a tummy and gray hair. it's what makes him him,no dobut about that. :-)

  • I agree, my friend ~ Mitzi DeMarco

  • hey mitzi, please don't disappear from the net. at least lets you and me keep in touch. please. :-)

  • Yeah, Rik is still a cutie.

  • 2many djs sampled this

  • What? i dont get it?

  • A percussive masterpiece.

  • Much of the Anne Dudley, ZTT stuff was so brilliantly programmed... fucking excellent.

  • Nice stumbling upon this! Was a surprise to see (p)Rik in here :] Were portions of this from a Comic Strip episode?

  • HAHA, I too stumbled on this today while reading the Art Of Noise bio. Been a huge fan since 80 something. Nice to see someone else remembers that other awesome import Comic Strip.

  • Hey, it's Rik Mayall!! He's funny. I loved him as Kevin Turvey and of course Rick in "The Young Ones"!

  • Rick with a silent 'P'!

  • grew up with this song on my amiga, never knew it was art of noise though

  • hehe "sssumbs up" = *chi:~psy*

  • To Madame Sephy, the reason they have to say Duane Eddy and not Rik (our favorite sexy guy) is becuse Duane would sue if they didnt. Anyone who records or uses his songs or any part of them have to pay plus USE HIS NAME for credtis.

  • actually his name's in it cause he worked on this version. Incidentally he didn't write Peter Gunn, it was originally by Henry Mancini, Duane just covered it in 1960. =]

  • Have always loved it but never seen the video. thanks!

  • about once a month, I come here to see Rik, cant help it. HE'S THE BEST

    always...and sexy

  • Best comment on youtube.

  • cool video

  • excellent

  • Oh man... I haven't seen this since HBO used to show videos in between movies!!

  • Wow, she had a shoulder tattoo before those were even popular.

  • That's when they were cool.

  • oh i loved rick in the young ones!! way before it became popular

  • Excelente legado

  • Never seen this vid before!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • Rick Mayal of all folk to pop up :o)-

  • If any one remembers, they used this song in the Spongebob "Hall Moniter

    " episode.

  • It was a thrill to hear this song in dance clubs in Philly PA back in the mid 80's like at Kurts or the DCA. . People danced so cool then.
