I just found this video and have to admit that it's marvellous: A real movie about a wonderful garden railway! I build a railway in my garden momentarily, but I doubt that I'm going to reach this high level of perfection. Congratulations, it's a pleasure to watch.
Lovely video Paul - that's some tight clearance on the tunnel, just like the real thing I know, but I don't suppose you'll be running many Irish vehicles :-)
Hi Paul a real delight to watch like all your films I just keep watching them all The camera work just gets better keep it up hope fully My Garden railway will be as good as yours
Thanks Paul. I follow my most basic principle of viewing it from the perspective of an actual by-stander. Keep the camera as low as possible and make sure the scene looks convincing. It's taken 9 years and a lot of experimenting and changing of things along the way to get the railway to it's current standard, there's still areas that I'm not happy with. It's an ongoing process.
Hi Matthew. Don't tell nayone, but I did cheat slightly. the video is half actual speed. It gives the exhaust beat a deeper tone. Weather here has just started turning colder, the mornings are crisp and cold now. Waiting for a cold day to see what spectacular sort of steam plume the Ogwen will create.
LGB is Ok, but I reckon real steam power is hard to beat. It looks and smells right, especially if you go for a coal fired model. It also eliminates that trouble with having to run power through your rails, no wiring to worry about. Have you heard of NGT models? They're out your way (Lansing Mi) have a look at their website, they're stockists for Accucraft live steamers.

Yes, it's a home made chuff pipe. I'm in the process of making some more for the other loco's.

Hi Neil,
We could try it with the Irish stock if you like, might scrape the door-handles a little though.

Fantastic sounds on this one Paul. As I write this comment I'm constantly scrolling up to see the action.
Must be cold in England now, what with those steam plumes!
Cheers, Matthew.

Is the engine steam powered and does it just run on it's own?
rhbeadlejr 3 years ago
Er, yes it is live steam. That much is obvious from the video.

Large scale electric engines here have smoke generators. Most garden railroads here are electric and use LGB products.

Not sure what you're implying there Pete! What else could it possibly be?
Maesfforddrailway 3 years ago
It's too realistic to be a garden railway ;) hehe

Then I have achieved my objective. Nice one Pete, Thanks!
